Readme File for SPEC OPS(tm) OPENGL Patch June '98
----------------------------------------------------

	-- What's in here
This is an ALPHA version of the OPENGL port of SpecOps.
The main purpose behind this "patch" is to collect
feedback on problems. If you have problems or comments
about this version of the game, please send them to

		specops@zombie.com

		with OPENGL as the subject.

	-- Known Bugs
There are two major bugs about which we already know.

		1) Transparency problems--certain texture maps with
			transparent portions create sorting errors.
This means that you'll see odd mixing of
foreground and backround objects when viewing
objects covered with such textures (most
			notably, trees).

		2) "UV Clipping Problems"--textures polygons near the
edge of the screen will warp much of the time.

	-- Special Thanks
I want to thank the people who tested the beta version
		of this patch.

		Mike Thompson
		Henry "Trace" Sutton III
		Andy Sieben

These guys have provided invaluable testing and
commentary--I couldn't have finished without their
		help.

By the way, Andy is a native German, and has
graciously offered to respond to email. In his
		words:

"I allow you to name my E -Mail too, if your
customers have any questions, the germans will have
a german speaking person they can ask!"

		His email address is Lysader@bnla.baynet.de.

I'd also like to correct an oversight in the manual. Neither
Naomi Muirhead nor John Williamson were credited for their
work on the game. John (producer of Spearhead on the SpecOps
Expansion Pack) edited most of the video footage in the game,
and Naomi handled countless administrative tasks, including
keeping us all sane until we shipped.

----------------------------------------------------
This patch should install itself using the WinZip
self-extractor. You need only tell the WinZip self-
extractor where to find SpecOps. For most people,
this is

(if you installed the game to a different directory,
give WinZip the directory into which you installed
SpecOps).

The patch contains 10 files:
level1.zsb
level2.zsb
level3.zsb
level4.zsb
level5.zsb
startup.zsb
endMission.zsb
specOPENGL.exe
3dfx.bat
readmeOGL.txt

These should all be dated 5/15.

Troubleshooting
----------------------------------------------------
HEADER/BINARY VERSION CONFLICT
If this error appears at any time during play,
your SpecOps installation has a mixture of old
	and new files.

Go to your SpecOps directory and check the
	dates for the following files:

		level1.zsb
		level2.zsb
		level3.zsb
		level4.zsb
		level5.zsb
		startup.zsb
		endMission.zsb
		specOPENGL.exe
		3dfx.bat

All should have the same dates. If any are dated
differently, it pre-dates the current patch.
Hand-delete these 9 files from your
SpecOps folder and re-install the patch. After
patching, verify that all 9 files have been
copied into the SpecOps folder and have similar
	dates.

If the error persists, email markk@zombie.com
	(two k's in the address).
