Warning

You may experience some problems when installing or playing the game. Such
problems may be videocard related; if in doubt, consult your instruction
manual and ask your retailer or the manufacturer to know how to update your
hardware
If you have a Sound Blaster PCI 64 V card, please do not use the "3D sound" option.

Quick Start

You must first install Outcast to your hard drive. Use the CD-ROM interface that pops up when you put in Disk
one of Outcast. If the CD interface doesn't open when you put the disk in, Double click on "My Computer" and
double click on the CD-ROM Drive, this should open the Demo CD interface. Once installed, you can launch
Outcast from your Start-->Programs-->Outcast -->Outcast, or you can double click on the Outcast shortcut on
your desktop if you chose that option during install.
If you would like to replay the intro movie, insert disc 1 into your computer prior to starting your game.

The Scenario
As part of a covert experiment, the US military deploys a probe designed to prove the existence of a parallel
universe hidden from our own. Though the probe successfully reaches a planet Adolph in the alternate universe,
its first crucial data transmission is mysteriously cut short. The probe's unexpected demise triggers a disastrous
chain of events resulting in a black hole that threatens to engulf the earth. Unless the missing probe can
somehow be found and repaired, the earth itself is doomed.
You are Cutter Slade, Commander of an elite team of scientists chosen to embark on a high stakes mission that
will determine the fate of the earth. Standing between you and mission success lies an alternate world populated
by mysterious creatures, intelligent beings, and a hostile environment. And that's just for starters...

Troubleshooting
-If you get the error "A required DLL file DINPUT.DLL not found" you have not installed DirectX. You can
re/install DX6 by first putting in the first Outcast disk and clicking Start-->Run, and typing
X:\SETUP\DIRECTX\DXSETUP.EXE" in the "Open" box, where "X" is your CD-ROM drive letter. If your
computer is having a problem installing DX6 that's on the disk then download and install the latest version from
Microsoft at www.Microsoft.com/DirectX. Installing DirectX is required to run this game.

-Minimum System Requirements
Pentium 200 w/ MMX*
32 MB RAM
Windows 95
DirectX 6.1 Software (included)
2 MB video card w/ drivers for DirectX 6.1
Windows compatible Sound card w/ drivers for DirectX 6.1
4X CD-ROM drive
600 MB Uncompressed Hard Drive Space
*Outcast requires that your computer have MMX to play.

-Recommended Configuration
IBM PC Computer or 100% compatible w/MMX, Pentium 300 MHz MMX
At least 700 MB of free space on hard drive
64Mb of RAM
8X CD ROM drive
Windows(r) 95/98 compatible sound card
Video Card with 4 MB of RAM
4 axes Joystick Windows(r) 98
-Other supported configurations
Pentium III processor
AMD K6 3D Now! Processor
128 MB of RAM
EAX compatible card
Microsoft Force Feedback Joystick

-If your game controller is not responding make sure of two things: Make sure your gamepad/joystick is set up
and calibrated in Control Panel-->Game Controller, and that you have the latest drivers for your sound card.

DirectX 6.1

Run through these instructions to make sure your DirectX is working properly.

1.) Click <Start> , "Find", "Files and Folders"...

2.) In the "Named" box type "dxdiag.exe". Make sure that the "Look in" window says "My Computer" and click
on <Find Now> button. When Dxdiag.exe comes up Double click on the Icon.

3.) Click on the "Display" or "Display 1" tab and look to see if it says Certified Yes or No. If it says no, then
write down the Adapter Name, this is your Video card. If you have a 3Dfx card click on "Display 2" and check
that card too.

4.) Next click on the "Sound" tab, check to see if this one says "Certified: Yes". If it says no then write down the
"Device Description", this is your Sound card.

5.) If one or more of your cards were not certified contact the manufacture by phone or go to their website and
get the latest drivers for your cards and Install them. Once you get your new drivers installed check to see if they
say "Certified: Yes", once they do the game will work properly.

Close all programs

If you have gone through the Troubleshooting steps and your game is still not working properly, this may be the
cause of a software conflict. Your system may have one or more utilities running (Virus scanners, Phone
answering software, CD ROM utilities, game controller button mappers.) To rule out the possibility of a software
conflict, Press the <CRTL>, <ALT> and <DEL> keys at the same time and "End Task" all applications (Keep
Explorer and Systray running) and try running your game again.

Known Bugs
If you have run though all of the Troubleshooting and you think you have a Bug please e-mail us at
helpline@infogrames.co.uk with your full system specs, and a detailed description of the problem.

Hardware Compatibility
- Failure to init DDRAW.DLL? If your computer is running Windows 95, you MUST have your display
properties set to 32-bit color. You can check this by Opening Control Panel-->Display-->Settings. Here you can
change your video card settings to 32-bit color. If your video card does not support 32-bit color, the game will
not run.
