1. WHAT'S IN THIS RELEASE

This release supports the Logitech WingMan Warrior through the serial
port connection. It allows full programability of WingMan Wariror in
Windows 95 games, and DOS games that run within Windows 95. It has
basic support for DOS games that has to be run in a pure DOS environment.

This release is backwards compatible with older versions of Logitech
Entertainment Software (LES). It supports Logitech CyberMan 2,
WingMan Extreme Digital and ThunderPad Digital in Windows 95, provided
the proper joystick is selected in the Joystick Control Panel, or in
DirectX 5.0, the Game Controllers Control Panel.

There are certain DOS games that have enhanced support through
LAUNCHER.EXE, which is included in this release.

2. WINDOWS 95

2.1 Quick Installation

Please note that in order to have full programmability of WingMan Warrior
in Windows 95, connect WingMan Warrior to the serial port, and NOT the
game port. However, the game port is needed to be present in your system,
since LES installs joystick drivers to Windows 95.

Place the Logitech Entertainment Software CD in your CD-ROM drive. The
Setup window appears in a few seconds (if Autoplay is enabled on your
system.)

Click the Setup button, then follow the directions that appear on the setup
screens.

If the Autoplay feature of Windows 95 is not enabled, then simply go to the
Start menu, choose Run..., click Browse... to select the CD-ROM drive,
double-click the SETUP.EXE program on the LES 2.3 CD, then click the OK
button to start the LES 2.3 SETUP program.

After install is finished, Windows 95 will restart.

2.2 Uninstall

LES 2.3 can be removed from Windows 95 by clicking the Add/Remove Programs
icon in the Windows 95 Control Panel. Select Logitech Entertainment
Software and press the Remove button. Then follow the onscreen instructions
for completing the uninstall.

Or, you may activate the uninstall program from the Logitech Entertainment
program group in the Windows 95 Start menu.

After uninstall is finished, Windows 95 will restart.

3. DOS AND WINDOWS 3.X

Logitech Entertainment Software is designed to work with the Windows 95
operating system. However, there is limited support for DOS games that
require you to Restart to DOS.

4. INSTALL AND UNINSTALL NOTES

4.1 Install Notes

The installer has been tested with a variety of system configurations to
ensure a success the first time. However, typical Windows 95 systems
contain a wide range of software and hardware products and not all
combinations could be tested. Following are some notes to keep in mind:

1. Be sure to have your WingMan Warrior plugged in to the serial port at the
time of installation. The device will be calibrated during the install
   process.
2. If for any reason the Setup process appears to stop responding after the
files are being copied to the hard drive, turning the computer off then on
often solves the problem. Make sure you then calibrate your joystick when
   Windows 95 starts up again.
3. After the installer has finished, Windows 95 will give you the option to
restart. So any applications that have documents open should be exited
before beginning the LES installation. This is especially true of game
programs or DOS games running under Windows 95.
4. If you do not restart Windows, the auto game detection feature will not
work untill you start the LES Control Center or restart the system.
5. If during installation, the installer displays error message stating that
the device is not connected follow these steps
   1. Check if WingMan Warrior is connected properly to the serial port.
      If not, connect it properly.
   2. Choose retry. If the message persists, press cancel. The installation
      will go to completion.
   3. Reboot the machine and open the Windows Joystick Control Panel. Or if
you have DirectX 5.0, open the Game Controllers Control Panel.
   4. Choose "Logitech WingMan Warrior" as the joystick. Press Ok and you
      are ready to go.

(see the HARDWARE NOTES and TROUBLESHOOTING sections for more information)

4.1.1 Re-installing LES 2.3

LES 2.3 may be reinstalled over an existing 2.3 installation. The install
program detects a previous installation and gives the user the option to
retain any existing game settings. Re-installing may be done without first
uninstalling LES 2.3. This may be necessary if your Logitech digital gaming
device stops functioning after installing other hardware or software that
is not compatible.

4.1.2 Using LES 2.3 with WingMan Extreme Digital

LES 2.3 supports WingMan Extreme Digital and ThunderPad Digital. There
is no need to reinstall LES 2.1 to have the WingMan Extreme Digital
or ThunderPad support. If for any reason you need to reinstall LES 2.1,
please uninstall LES 2.3 first.

4.1.3 Using LES 2.3 with CyberMan 2

LES 2.3 supports Logitech CyberMan 2. There is no need to reinstall LES 2.2
to have the Logitech CyberMan 2 support. If for any reason you need to
reinstall LES 2.2, please uninstall LES 2.3 first.

4.2 Uninstall Notes

The uninstall program is designed to remove the main LES 2.3 application
files but it will leave Logitech joystick drivers and registry entries
installed for compatibility with new versions of Windows 95. Following
are some notes to keep in mind:

1. Installed driver files are only active when the device it supports is
selected in the Joystick control panel. Otherwise, they do not use any
   memory.
2. Logitech gaming devices will not be removed from the Joystick control
panel after uninstall. It is possible to activate the Logitech joystick
driver in the Joystick Control Panel after uninstall.
3. After uninstall is finished, you will have the option to either reboot
or return to Windows. However, we still advise that you save your work
   prior to running uninstall.

4.2.1 Driver Files

The LES 2.3 driver files for Logitech gaming devices will remain in the
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory after uninstall. New versions of Windows 95 come
with support for Logitech gaming devices. Future versions of LES will
update these drivers; thus, the uninstaller should leave the most recent
drivers installed. These files remain:

   LWARRIOR.VXD
   LCYBRMN2.VXD
   LJOY.VXD
   LJOYV.VXD
   LJOYPNP.VXD

4.2.2 Registry Entries

All Logitech gaming device entries in the Microsoft Joystick control panel
will remain after the LES 2.3 software is uninstalled. All registry entries
for the LES Control Center will be removed, except for those settings that are
created by you.

The following entries will remain in the Microsoft Joystick control panel:

   DESCRIPTION INSTALLED WITH

   Logitech WingMan
   Logitech WingMan Light
   Logitech WingMan Extreme
   Logitech ThunderPad

Logitech WingMan Extreme Digital [LES 2.1]
   Logitech ThunderPad Digital [LES 2.1]

   Logitech CyberMan 2 [LES 2.2]

   Logitech WingMan Warrior [LES 2.3]
Logitech WingMan Warrior (Game Port Hat) [LES 2.3]
Logitech WingMan Warrior (Game Port Throttle) [LES 2.3]

Note for Advanced Users:
Following uninstall, there may be more than one entry for Logitech
Joysticks remaining in the Device Manager part of the System control panel
applet. This may be a quirk of Windows 95; it should not cause any
problems.

4.2.3 Windows OSR-2

LES 2.3 is compatible with OEM Service Releases of Windows 95 beginning
with OSR-2. These releases include support for four Logitech analog gaming
devices: WingMan, WingMan Light, WingMan Extreme, and ThunderPad. When LES
2.3 is installed, new drivers for these devices are added to the system.
When LES 2.3 is uninstalled, the new drivers remain to support these
devices.

Under OSR-2, the Device Manager always displays the Driver page in the device
property sheet. You may notice that the Driver page says that no driver is
loaded for the WingMan Warrior. Be assured, the driver is loaded, and is
working properly.

5. HARDWARE NOTES

5.1 Serial and Game Ports

Please note that in order to have full programmability of WingMan Warrior
in Windows 95, connect WingMan Warrior to the serial port, and NOT the
game port. However, the game port should be present in your system,
since LES installs joystick drivers to Windows 95.

6. GAME-SPECIFIC NOTES

6.1 External Launcher enabled games with '(SWIFT)' prefix

In the LES Control Center, there are several DOS games settings that have
external launcher support. For example, for the '(SWIFT) Quake' setting,
the '(SWIFT)' means that the game setting has external launcher support
setting. It may have a slightly different setting compared to the 'Quake'
setting, because the supported game would have 2 different ways to run it.

6.2 Quake and WinQuake

When running the LES Setup, it will try to detect and update the Quake and
WinQuake game settings on your hard drive.

6.2.1 Quake Button Assignments

When you launch Quake using LAUNCHER command, or if you run WinQuake,
the default setting of the functions for the WingMan Warrior controls
    defaults to the following:

        Trigger - Fire
        Button 2 - Cycle Weapons
        Button 3 - Center View
Button 4 - Select Rocket Launcher, Fire 1 shot, Switch back
                      to Shotgun
        Hat North - Look/Aim Up
        Hat South - Look/Aim Down
        Hat East - Jump
        Hat West - Swim Down
        SpinControl - Turn
Throttle - Run mode (up=run mode on; down=run mode off)
                      (see Note below)

      Moving the grip forward/backwards produces a forward/backwards
motion. Moving the grip sideways produces a sideways (strafing)
      motion.

Refer to the game's documentation, either printed or on-line
(such as README.TXT or TECHINFO.TXT), for additional information
on setting up and playing the game.

NOTE: You cannot assign a button to the Run command, this
function is pre-defined in the LAUNCHER program.

6.3 Hexen II

In order to setup all axes, buttons and POV Hat to work in Hexen II for
Windows 95, copy WARRWINQ.CFG in the C:\LOGITECH\ENTRTAIN directory
to the DATA1 subdirectory in Hexen II. Then append a line in AUTOEXEC.CFG
in the DATA1 subdirectory:
    EXEC WARRWINQ.CFG

Please refer to section 6.2.1 Quake Button Assignments, since it applies to
Hexen II Button Assignments also. You may wish to edit WARRWINQ.CFG and
customize it to enhance your play.

6.4 Duke Nukem 3D

You may configure Duke Nukem 3D to either as "Keyboard and Joystick", or
as "Keyboard and External".

6.4.1 Duke Nukem 3D (Keyboard and Joystick)

When configuring Duke Nukem 3D to use "Keyboard and Joystick", you
should enable the rudder support in the game, which allows the
SpinControl to perform the turn function. You may need to also
adjust the Rudder sensitivity in the game.

6.4.1 Duke Nukem 3D (Keyboard and External)

When configuring Duke Nukem 3D to use Keyboard and External, you
will be running an external LAUNCHER.EXE program. The steps are:

        1. Run Duke Nukem 3D's SETUP.EXE program
        2. Select CONTROLLER SETUP
        3. Select CHOOSE CONTROLLER TYPE
        4. Select KEYBOARD AND EXTERNAL
        5. Select SETUP EXTERNAL
        6. Replace EXTERNAL.EXE with LAUNCHER.EXE

The shareware version of Duke Nukem 3D on the Logitech Entertainment
Software CD comes preconfigured to work with WingMan Warrior. By
default, sound is disabled. You will need to run Duke Nukem 3D's

      Moving the grip forward/backwards produces a forwards/backwards
motion. Moving the grip sideways produces a sideways (strafe)
      motion.

Refer to the game's documentation, either printed or on-line (such
as README.DOC or DN3DHELP.EXE), for additional information on

7. GAME-SPECIFIC TIPS

7.1 Hints for Best DOS Game Performance

Most DOS games run well in Windows 95 DOS boxes. There are some memory-
intensive games that may operate slowly or erratically in a DOS box when
there is limited RAM in the system. This is not related to the LES
software. Adding more memory to the system may greatly improve game and
other application performance.

Logitech digital gaming devices operate much faster than traditional analog
joysticks. In general, the game settings in the LES Control Center provide
the most efficient operation for DOS games in a DOS box. For some games,
choosing an alternate mode of LES improves the stability of the game. This
mode is called 'Alternate emulation' and may be selected in the LES Control
Center. Choose the Game Setup tab, click Change Game, click the Advanced
button, and select the Alternate emulation option in the dialog box that
appears. Here are a few DOS games that benefit from this emulation mode:
   Batman Forever Mortal Kombat 3
Battle Arena Toshinden NBA Live '96
   Battlecruiser 3000AD Primal Rage
F22 Lightning II Wing Commander III and IV
Flight Simulator 5.1 Witchhaven I and II

In general, DOS gamepad-type sports or fighting games should use this
emulation mode.

7.2 Spinner Modes

The default mode is 'Turning' mode, which should work fine in virtually
all games. However, for flight simulators, you may want to change the
Spinner Mode to 'Steering' mode, in which the spinner will act as a
non-centering steering wheel or rudder. You may need to compare these
2 settings inside the game. When bringing up the Joystick Control Panel
or Game Controller Control Panel, it will always show the default axes
behavior.

7.3 Specific Game Issues

Brutal
This DOS game has its directions of movement reversed. This problem
affects any gaming device used with this game. Refer to the game
publisher for a possible solution or newer version.

Earthworm Jim
This DOS game does not see all movements of Logitech digital gaming devices
properly. However, as WingMan Warrior can be made to send keyboard commands,
Inside the game select 'Keyboard' as the control device after assigning
keyboard commands to the WingMan Warrior in the LES Control Center.

NASCAR RACING 2
This DOS game may not detect the WingMan Warrior properly. We suggest
using the standard keyboard support instead.

Dos Quake and WinQuake
In order to setup all axes, buttons and POV Hat to work in Quake for DOS and
WinQuake(Quake for Windows 95), there are two configuration files
WARRDOSQ.CFG (for DOS quake)
WARRWINQ.CFG (for WinQuake)
that the Setup will copy into the default C:\LOGITECH\ENTRTAIN directory.
The Logitech Setup program will automatically look for installed version of
DOS Quake and WinQuake, and if found, will copy the the two cfg files to the
game directory. It will also create autoexec.cfg file if it does not already
exist and append following line to it.
     For DOS Quake add
        EXEC WARRDOSQ.CFG
     For Win Qauke add
         EXEC WARRWINQ.CFG
If you install Quake or WinQuake for Windows 95 after installing
LES 2.3, simply copy these files from the default C:\LOGITECH\ENTRTAIN
directory into the game executable directory, and append the above
lines to the autoexec.cfg file, creating it, if not already present.

Tomb Raider
This DOS game may have some problems with Logitech digital gaming
devices when the LES software is set up normally (using digital driver).
In our experience, there will be some 'phantom' movement in the first
few minutes of play of the game that should go away if you select the
User Settings in the game a couple of times. The game apparently was
intended primarily for keyboard use. Refer to the game's README file for
more information or check the game publisher for a patch or newer
version. However, if you assign the game's keyboard commands to the
WingMan Warrior, it will work fine with the game, so long as the game is
set up to it's default settings for control.

8. TROUBLESHOOTING

This section describes gives solutions to specific problems you may have.
For additional information, refer to section 6, GAME-SPECIFIC NOTES. Also,
you may refer to the Troubleshooting section of the LES Online Help.

8.1 Setup/Install problems

Please see section 4.1 "Install Notes" for information on Setup/Install issues.

8.2 3rd-party Uninstall Programs

In general, LES 2.3 works well with 3rd-party uninstall programs such as
CleanSweep, and Remove-It. Of course, LES 2.3 has its own uninstaller which
we recommend for normal use. If during LES 2.3 installation, there is any
conflict with an uninstall monitor program, then turn off the uninstall
monitor and re-install LES 2.3.

8.3 Installing New PNP Sound Cards

If you install a Plug and Play sound card or game card AFTER first
installing a Logitech Digital gaming device, then your device may no longer
be detected. In most cases, restarting Windows 95 will allow the Logitech
digital device to be found. This is a quirk of the Plug and Play system.

Also, check that the Logitech digital device is still selected in the
Joystick control panel.

If restarting Windows 95 does not help, you may have to reinstall Logitech
LES 2.3 software. To retain your current game settings, do not uninstall
LES; instead, install LES again but uncheck the box during install that
says 'Overwrite current game settings'.

See also item 5.1.3, 'Non-standard gameports'.

8.4 The Cursor Slowed Down After Changing Joysticks

If more than one Logitech Digital gaming device is installed, the LES
digital driver is selected, and then the devices are unplugged or switched
while a game or the LES Control Center is open, the mouse cursor may slow
down for several seconds. During this time, the digital driver is searching
for the devices. A solution is to first deselect the devices in the
standard Joystick control panel by setting the devices to 'None'.

8.5 Restart Windows 95 to Solve Problems

This is a useful solution for many Windows 95 problems. Windows is not a
perfect system, and game software is not as stable and well-tested as some
business software. Often, simply restarting Windows will 'clean up' the
system and correct an 'unsolvable' problem.

8.6 LES Online Help

Additional problem-solving information is available in the LES Online Help
system. Select 'Troubleshooting' from the Contents page.

8.7 Restart to DOS and SWIFT Mouse Driver won't load

Some systems will load LMOUSE.COM when Restart to DOS from Windows 95. It
could prevent our SWIFT Mouse Driver to load, which adds DOS level support
for WingMan Warrior. Remove in DOSSTART.BAT the line that runs LMOUSE.COM
usually solves the problem.

8.8 Game Controllers Control Panel in DirectX 5.0

In DirectX 5.0, the "Gaming Devices" Control Panel has been changed to
"Game Controllers" Control Panel. Please run the new "Game Controllers"
Control Panel to test your gaming devices.

8.9 Installing Additional Logitech Digital Gaming Devices under DirectX 5.0

If you have an existing Logitech digital gaming device, and are installing
another Logitech digital gaming device, please do the following:

1. Click "Start"

2. Select "Settings"

3. Choose "Control Panel"

4. Double click on the icon labeled "Game Controllers". If you do not find
the "Game Controllers" icon, but instead have the "Joystick" icon,
you do not have DirectX 5.0 or later installed and the steps below
   are not applicable.

5. On the "General" tab select the device to remove, and click the "Remove"
   button.

6. Click the "Add" button

7. Select the proper device from the list and choose "OK".

8. To calibrate the device choose the device name and click "Properties"

9. Select the "Settings" tab

10. Click the "Calibrate" button and follow the on-screen directions to calibrate
the device. Calibration is not required for CyberMan 2 gaming device.

11. Once the calibration is finished click on the "Test" tab and check the
    device's functionality.

12. Click the "OK" button to close the screen.

9. MISCELLANEOUS

9.1 Restoring Game Settings

If you wish to restore your game settings to their orginal state, you may
use the Import function in the LES Control Center. The GAMES.LES file in
installed directory contains some popular games' settings. See the LES
Online Help for instructions on importing game settings.

9.2 Changing Game Commands

There are 3 types of game commands you can define, and once a game
command is defined to be a certain type, you cannot change the command
to a different type. However, you can still modify the command within
its defined type.
