1. Product Overview
===================
Advanced Mailbox Scanner (AMS) is a client - server application that
allows Novell NetWare network users to receive the notifications about
arrival of new mail on several mail servers or in several mailboxes.

NLM module checks up users accounts on mail servers and with periodicity
specified by the users. The check of new mail on mail servers can be made
by the POP3 and IMAP4 protocols. Network administrator can set maximum
accounts number which users can have, text of the message received by the
users, control access of the users to the server, look through the users
and their accounts, create new accounts from server console.

The client part works on network workstations under Windows 95/98/NT
operating systems. Connection to the server is executed under the TCP/IP
protocol. The messages can receive workstations with any operational system
which can receive standard NetWare messages.

2. System Requirements
======================
Server part:
Novell NetWare 4.1x/5

Client part:
Windows 95/98/NT with Novell Client and TCP/IP installed.
You must be authenticated on server where AMS NLM resides.

3. Advanced Mailbox Scanner Installation
========================================
Each copy of AMS is licensed to one NDS tree.

Files included in the download set are:
	MAILSCAN NLM AMS NLM (server)
	MAILSCAN EXE Windows executable (client)
MAILSCAN HLP Help file for MAILSCAN.EXE
	README TXT This file
	ORDER TXT Order Form
	LICENSE TXT License agreement

You should copy MAILSCAN.NLM to the SYS:SYSTEM directory of NetWare
server for easiest loading. Of course if you desire, you can choose
another directory. When you load the unregistered version of the NLM,
you will have 30 days to trial whether it meets your needs. Users
will receive following message after trial period expiration (instead
of the message about new mail):

AMS trial period expired. Please register or stop using this program.

MAILSCAN.EXE and MAILSCAN.HLP should be copied to the SYS:PUBLIC or
another directory with public access.

4. Advanced Mailbox Scanner Usage
=================================

Server:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Load server part from server console by 'LOAD MAILSCAN.NLM' command.
MAILSCAN.NLM has one command line option - where to store service files
USERS.AMS and ACCOUNTS.AMS. If you don't use command line option, this
files will be created in SYS:ETC directory. If you prefer to keep service
files in another directory, you can load MAILSCAN.NLM by supplying the
full path name. For instance: 'LOAD MAILSCAN.NLM SYS:SYSTEM\MAILSCAN'.
Directory SYS:SYSTEM\MAILSCAN must exist.
After MAILSCAN.NLM loads, its commands can be accessed via menu choices.
First of all adjust program settings in the correspondence with your
preferences. Make it through menu choice - SETUP. You can set up following
options:

MESSAGE TEMPLATE - message which will be received by users. By default
the phrase "You have %d messages on %s." is given. In any place and any
times it is possible to insert %d (will be substituted on an amount of
the messages) and %s (will be substituted on name of account). Length of
the message can be up to 200 characters.

ALLOWED GROUP - access to AMS server can be received by the user which
belongs to group entered here (though you can add users one by one through
the main menu choice MANAGE USERS).

MAXIMUM ACCOUNTS ALLOWED - amount of accounts which can be set by
user. Pay attention that if this number will be reduced, part of
users accounts can for them become inaccessible.

SERVER IP ADDRESS - by default 0 - means that Advanced Mailbox Scanner
server will serve requests of clients by all IP networks installed on your
file server. To limit by concrete network it is necessary to set IP address
of the Advanced Mailbox Scanner server same as your file server address
in this network (it is meaningful if your file server for example looks
out by one of its IP networks). After change of this parameter it is
necessary to reload the program.

SERVER PORT - port of the Advanced Mailbox Scanner server. By default 2000.
If on your file server this port already occupied - you can change it here.
After change of this parameter it is necessary to reload the program.

LOG FILE SIZE - size of the logfile in KB. By default 0 - log is disabled.

LOG FILE - directory and name of logfile. By default SYS:ETC\AMS.LOG.
If is empty or incorrectly given - log is disabled.

LOG SCREEN - By default is switched off. When switched on - log is output
in separate screen.

After parameter setup it is possible to begin users management. Through
the menu choice MANAGE USERS you can add and delete users of the program,
and also control their accounts. Attention! If NDS name of the user will be
changed (for example in NWADMIN), it will not be reflected in this list.
In this case you should delete old user and to add new one. All users
accounts will be lost. We hope that such situation is seldom as usually
names of the users do not vary. In account properties window you can set:

ACCOUNT - account name. It will appear in the message which user receive
when the server will detect new mail in this mailbox.

MAIL SERVER - DNS name or IP address of mail server.

USER NAME - registration name on the mentioned above mail server.

PASSWORD - password on the mentioned above mail server.

PROTOCOL - Protocol for work with mail server. POP3 or IMAP4.

PORT - as a rule 110 for POP3 and 143 for IMAP4. However you can change it
if you need.

INTERVAL - interval (in minutes) of account checking. Can be from 0 up to 1400.
And 0 means not to check this account at all.

MAILBOX - only for IMAP4. It is possible to check up a folder distinct from
INBOX. If the name of a folder contains spaces, conclude it in quotation markses
(for example "Long name folder").

MESSAGES ATTRIBUTE - only for IMAP4. Here it is possible to indicate message
flags you interested in. Three variants are possible: RECENT, UNSEEN, MESSAGES.

Client:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Run MAILSCAN.EXE from network workstation. You will see startup window.
In this window it is necessary to set IP address or DNS name, and also port of
the AMS server (where MAILSCAN.NLM is loaded). Parameters which you will enter
will be saved and next time you should only press OK button.

Click Ok button. You must be authenticated on server where AMS NLM resides.
If connection with server is established you will see the following dialog
window. In this window you can look through, add, delete and change your
accounts. In bottom part of this window you can see amount of accounts which
can be set. SAVE button closes this dialog box and saves any changes you have
made.
