Overview
----------

GetIt is a free tool for HTTP & FTP download. It has many features, but
first of all, it is very fast. GetIt is designed to adapt itself to all
kinds of network connections from DDN to DUN. It will automatically
adjust the buffer size according to available bandwidth. Expecially in
high-speed connection, GetIt can to most extent make use of the
bandwidth with low CPU and system resource usage. Just like its name,
you can use GetIt to get whatever you want. There may be times when you
meet such annoying situation, you want to use download agent to get
something from a site, but what you get is just something like .asp or
cgi.exe after dragging the hyperlink and dropping it to your download
client. Even in worse case, the download can only be triggered by
clicking the submit button in a form. With GetIt, all these above
cannot annoy you any more. GetIt can monitor the browser and capture
the specified download from it for you. (So far, this feature only
works properly in English version of IE.) So, there are many features
in GetIt, why not have a try. Finally, GetIt is neither adware or
spyware, it is freeware, safe to use, that's all.

Requirements
---------------

GetIt fully supports Windows 9x/NT/2000. The minimum requirement is
that you must have IE 4.0 or higher installed. If you use Win98 or
Win2000, then you have already meet the requirements. If your OS is
Win95 or WinNT, you may need to install IE 4.0 or higher. By the way,
it is recommended to choose Windows 2000 as your operating system if
you can afford. Because Windows 2000 has better performance in DUN and
Internet access.

Installation
---------------

Like most freewares, the installation of GetIt is quiet easy, just
extract the file Getit.zip to a temporary folder and run the
Setup.exe. Note if you open any browser, close it before the
installation. Otherwise it may cause installation fail.

Hints
------

1. The Automation parameters in Options menu will take effect
instantly, you do not have to restart anything.

2. If you would like to download a resource by IE instead of GetIt,
there is a shortcut for you, hold down the Ctrl key until the IE
download dialog appears. It will prevent GetIt capturing the download.

3. If you access Internet through soem firewall, you may have problems
to use FTP. It seems the connection of the data channel will always
timeout. To solve this, you can enable PASV mode in Options menu.

4. If you need to download files with large volume, you are better off
setting schedule for it to start at midnight.

5. If you like to download files of your choice, you may find it
convenient to right-click the desired url and select the GetIt item on
the pop up menu in IE. This action will add a new task to the GetIt.

Run the program
-------------------

All the commands in GetIt is straightforward. Here just list two things
which may confuse you.

1. After starting GetIt, you can find it uses intuitive Explorer-style
interface. It has a address bar below the toolbar, which stores all
the history url. You can also add a new download task quickly by
inputing the URL in address bar and pressing Enter.

2. Since you may well be unfamilar with the syntax of GetIt import list
file, you can attempt to export a list file and open it, which is
actually an ini file. Its syntax is very straightforward. But there is
one thing you should keep in mind, the list file provides many
parameters, if you are not sure how to use them, just leave them empty
and let GetIt select the default values. If you use the wrong values,
it may cause GetIt to work unsteadily.
