                                  Netflush

When running Netscape, its cache directory can fill up fast!
You can manually adjust the "netscape.ini" file with a text
editor to reduce its size. However, by lowering the cache
subdirectory size, you could also slow down your 'on-line'
      experience.

And what about those dreaded cookies? Cookies are used to tar-
get users for advertisements, track your history files (to see
where you've been), and even see what kind of operating system
you're running! They can even be used to collect data to be
sent to others for spam mail and the list goes on.

And yes, as you surf the web, your history file keeps growing
too. It doesn't eat up too much space but it does provide some
interesting information about your habits. 'Nuff said.

                            * Now try NetFlush! *

After you have been surfing the NET, you can run Netflush to
purge your cookie file, clean your history file and delete all
those entries in your cache directory. It can be done in under
5 secs with the click of a mouse button (from windows) or by
typing netflush at the DOS prompt.

Did you know as you're browsing the internet with Netscape that
every picture (jpeg) or movie (mov, avi, mpeg) file you look at
is stored on your PC? If you purposely wanted to save a file
to look at later, it is now on your PC twice! That's a lot of
DEAD SPACE that you COULD be using for other stuff! Once the CACHE
directory gets so big, it becomes useless anyway.

Sound interesting? Try Netflush and reclaim that dead space for
yourself! Cut the cookies, zap the history file, and purge your
cache after every use, at boot-up or before you turn the PC off.
Or just use it once a week - it's really up to you. After running
Netscape for less than an hour, I have noticed as much as 20 megabytes
or more used just for its cache directory! That's why I wrote
      Netflush.

                              *System requirements*

      Recommended: 386 or better
                   VGA display
                   DOS 6x or better

Netflush was written for Netscape 3.0 and Netscape 3.01, but as
long as the version of Netscape you're running has a CACHE sub-
directory, a "cookie.txt" file and a "netscape.hst" file (in its
own directory), Netflush will work fine. It will not effect anything
except those three items, and will leave your bookmarks and other
      stuff intact.

Netflush was created to look for Netscape on your "C" drive, but
if you have named it something different or have placed it on a
different drive, no problem. Go ahead and run the program. If it
can't find the Netscape directory, it will prompt you to type in
the drive letter and directory name the first time. It will then
create a short two line initiate file to reference thereafter.

I also included a Netflush icon for easy recognition from windows.
I placed "my personal copy" of Netflush right in the program group
with Netscape. Whenever I want to run Netflush, its only a
      mouse-click away!

To create an icon for Netflush in win 3.x:

Open your Netscape work grp in windows
Select RUN from the windows FILE pulldown menu.
               Select NEW ITEM
Enter "Netflush" in the top box
               Tab to next box
               Select BROWSE
Browse to the directory where you unzipped NetFlush
               Double click "Netflush.exe"
               Tab to next box
Type in the working directory where you unzipped Netflush
               EXAMPLE > c:\NETFLUSH

If you would like to select the Netflush icon included with
this program, after getting set up, just highlite the 'windows
generic icon'. Go to the FILE pulldown menu and select PROPERTIES.
Click on CHANGE ICON. Click on BROWSE. Go to the directory where you
installed Netflush and click on "Netflush.ico". Click OK. You're all
      set!

This program will run fine from WIN95 also!
