				Mathomatic

This archive contains the shareware version of Mathomatic, the algebraic
manipulator. A tutorial program is included. This is an MS-DOS program, but
it will work under Windows.

This archive may be freely distributed as long as none of the files inside
are modified or missing.

The files that should be in this archive are:

AC.BAT Batch file for running Mathomatic in color mode.
ADV.TXT Advertisement and description of Mathomatic.
AM.BAT Batch file for running Mathomatic with no color.
AM.IN Test input file for Mathomatic.
AMEDIT.BAT File containing the name of the editor to use.
AMTUTOR.EXE The Mathomatic tutorial, demo, and program.
AMTUTOR.ICO An icon you can load under Windows for Mathomatic.
  CHANGES Version history of Mathomatic.
  FILE_ID.DIZ Short description of Mathomatic.
  FUN.IN Fun stuff to graph.
GRAPH.EXE The Mathomatic Graph program (Requires EGA or VGA).
LIMIT.IN Read this into Mathomatic to learn how to do limits.
  ORDER.TXT The Mathomatic registration form.
PFACTOR.IN Learn how Mathomatic factors polynomials.
POINTS.IN Read this into Mathomatic to get equations from 2/3 points.
PYTH3D.IN Distance between 2 points in 3d space.
  README.TXT This file.

To run the tutorial, type in "amtutor" at the DOS prompt. If you have a
color computer and you have the "ANSI.SYS" driver loaded, you can see how
Mathomatic works in color by typing "amtutor -c" at the DOS prompt. In color
mode, Mathomatic outputs ANSI escape sequences to make each level of
parentheses a different color.

To run the shareware version of Mathomatic, select it from the tutorial main
menu or type "am" at the DOS prompt (type "ac" for color mode).

To use color mode with DOS or Windows 3.x, you will need the following line
in your "c:\config.sys" file:

    device = c:\dos\ansi.sys

To use color mode with a more modern Operating System, like Windows 95, you
will need the following line in your "c:\config.sys" file:

    device = c:\windows\command\ansi.sys

You must have at least 640K of memory in your computer to run Mathomatic.
Mathomatic runs on all IBM-PC compatible computers setup to run MS-DOS
programs. The Mathomatic "graph" command requires EGA or VGA. A math
coprocessor is recommended, but not required. Mathomatic will run slower
without one.

This shareware version of Mathomatic is fully functional, however the maximum
expression size has been reduced to 250 operators.

Mathomatic is written in Microsoft C V5.1, is self-testing, and strictly
follows the rules of algebra. Mathomatic is powerful enough for users to
check their answers/solutions.

Registered users get the full-size version of Mathomatic with C source code
and user's manual. They also get my prime number tools and other math
goodies. The full-size version allows equations three times larger than the
shareware version allows. A 286 or higher processor is required for the
registered version.

To become a registered user, please do the following:

  1) Print the text file "ORDER.TXT".
  2) Fill it out.
  3) Make out a check or money order payable to "George Gesslein II".
It must be in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank.
A single user registration costs $49.95.
  4) Mail the order form with check or money order to:

FREE technical support is provided to anyone who asks. Just send me e-mail
with your problems or feedback. Phone support is provided to registered
users.

Mathomatic is educational! It even shows you how it solves equations if you
enter "debug 2" at the Mathomatic prompt. This sets debug level 2, to return
to normal, just enter "debug 0".

The latest shareware version of Mathomatic and source code is always
available at the Mathomatic Home Web Site:
