My PGP key(s) (RSA and Diffie-Hellman) are available on the
keyserver pgp5.ai.mit.edu.

Welcome to APPlug, a freeware Agent 1.5 <-> PGP 5.x plugin.
It currently runs under Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95.
It hasn't been tested in any other environments, nor has
it been tested with any version of Agent other than
version 1.5/32.451.

This program requires the MFC 4.2 runtime DLLs. They aren't
included in this ZIP file, since most systems already have
them installed. If, when you start APPlug, it informs you
that a required DLL is missing (such as MFC42.DLL,)
WinFiles.com has current links to locations where you can
download the MFC runtime DLLs.
See http://www.winfiles.com/apps/98/required.html.

This software is released AS IS, with no warranties, expressed
or implied. Use it at your own risk.

Bug reports are welcome, but I will not guarantee that I'll have
time or be willing to fix it right away. I will post updates as
time permits.

I would also like to encourage you to send me a short e-mail
letting me know that you are using it. The more feedback I get,
the more my ego is boosted and the more I'll be willing to work
on enhancements and bug fixes. =) *Please* take the time to
write me if this program is of any use to you.

Installation/Usage instructions:

Unzip APPlug into a directory of your choice. Create a shortcut to
it, if you like. When run, it will write a small configuration file
to the directory from which it is started.

To remove it from your system, simply delete it. It doesn't write
anything to your registry or change any system settings.

Using APPlug is actually quite simple.

Right click on the key icon to get a context menu. Under preferences,
you can currently pick two options:

1. Spell check before encrypting/signing.
This will invoke Agent's built-in spell checker before
APPlug invokes PGP to perform a selected operation. When
Agent is done spell checking, left click on the key icon
(it will now have the letters 'ABC' painted across it,) to
tell APPlug that you are done spell checking. Alternatively,
you can right-click on the icon to abort the operation.
You might want to abort if you stopped the spell check and
need to edit the text a bit more.

2. Give Agent focus after encrypting/signing.
This will simply give Agent focus after PGP is done doing
	its thing.

Simply select whichever operation you wish to choose, such as
encrypting, encrypting and signing, signing only, or decrypting.
APPlug will grab the text from Agent, invoke PGP, and paste
the text back into Agent.

Lastly, you may double-click the icon to invoke the default action,
which is encrypt and sign.

*NOTE*
In version 1.03, using PGP 5.5.3, there is a known bug in the Sign
and Encrypt & Sign commands. If you select either function, the
PGP window that asks for your passphrase will pop up, but sometimes
it will appear underneath Agent. You will need to ALT-TAB to the
dialog window and enter the passphrase.

I will look into fixing this bug ASAP. I wanted to get this release
out because of the bugfixes it contains (it works with 5.5.3!) I
apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Biographical Info, and other interesting tidbits:

This program was written in my spare time as an exercise, mostly.
I needed a program that would handle interfacing PGP 5.x.x with
Agent 1.5, and this is what I came up with. It's still a bit
rough around the edges, but it's definitely useable to me, and I
hope it is for you, too.

I am a Software Developer by day, and a husband/father/gamer by
evening and night. My favorite band of all time is Level 42.
I speak/read/write Spanish. I enjoy watching Third Rock from the Sun.
My current favorite game is StarCraft.
