Album To Go

2001.01.06.

ALBUM TO GO
version: 1.6.2

Album To Go
Win 95, 98; PalmOS-enabled device (1.43MB)
Album To Go is a remarkable advancement in viewing pictures and
graphics on PalmOS. The program makes it very easy for you to
prepare and transfer image files to your compatible handheld.
Frankly, it produces the highest-quality images I've seen on my
PalmPilot. The program does all of the conversion work for you-
there are no painstaking adjustments of size, color or any other
parameter. Images can be viewed on standard black/white handhelds,
or even in 16-bit color for the Visor Prism. Indeed, this program
turns your PalmPilot into a portable, digital photo album.
You simply use this Windows application to select images from your
hard drive, such as pictures you've digitized with a scanner.
Then, use sliding scales to adjust brightness and contrast
properties. Album To Go offers a real time preview of both the
original and Palm-formatted images. You can also attach a
text-based description to the image and HotSync it to your
handheld. Once pictures are on the device, you can view them
individually by tapping a file on the image list. Or, you can
enjoy a slide show that features three cool transition effects.
The developer is offering a free membership to its on-line
service. Club Photo lets you store images in Web-based photo
albums, which can be shared with your friends and family. You can
enter a family member's page, download a photo and stick it in
your PalmPilot! FREEWARE
Note: This program requires PalmOS 2.0 or higher for your handheld.

MONTE CARLO
version:

Steven DePalma

http://home.earthlink.net/%7Edpssys/Software/monte.html

Monte Carlo - 45 KB
The game board for Monte Carlo consists of 5 rows of 5 cards each. To win the game, you must discard the entire deck of 52 cards in pairs of the same rank. You can discard them if they are:
- Directly next to each other
- Directly above or below each other
- Directly next to each other diagonally
You remove pairs by dragging one card on top of the second. If they are of the same rank, and are located correctly near each other, then they are removed from the game board, and the card count is reduced by 2.
As cards are removed, holes will appear in the game board. To close up the holes and deal more cards from the deck, press the "Deal" button. This will rearrange the cards so that they are in solid rows, with the original cards in the same order that they were before (with the holes removed), and adding the new cards at the end of the group.
Continue removing pairs of cards and redealing until you cannot remove any more cards. The object is to be left with no cards.

QUICKBITS
version: 1

QuickBits
PalmOS 3.0 or higher
Are you tired of the same old sounds that emanate from your
PalmPilot? If so, this cool download will bring new life, not to
mention music, to your handheld. SystemSoundsPlus functions as an
add-on to Palm's Date Book program. It offers dozens of MIDI-style
tunes that you can use for alarms. The utility brings the sounds
of Beethoven, Superman, Twilight Zone and X-File to your Palm.
You'll also enjoy nice sound effects, such as a siren, cricket,
bird and even a computer.
Once you've opened Date Book, SystemSoundsPlus is accessible from
the Preferences dialog. By tapping Alarm Sound, a large menu
appears to reveal the utility's wide selection of sound files.
Simply browse the list, and click a sound to hear a preview. You
can then set up different sound effects for any of the events in
your Date Book. FREEWARE

Tank Commander

2001.01.26.

TANK COMMANDER
version: 1.5

Tank Commander
PalmOS 1.0 or higher
As Tank Commander, your job is to capture your enemy's flag. This immersive do-or-die combat game will keep you tapping your screen for hours. As you guide the tank far into hostile territory, you'll encounter waves of enemy units. You must blast any tank or attack helicopter that comes your way, while dodging "tank killers," smart missiles and pesky ground troops. Your enemy is far from "dumb," because they also have radar to learn your whereabouts. Even if you make it through enemy defenses, you'll have to enter heavily guarded fortresses, where turrets and mazes keep you from your ultimate goal.
Tank Commander is remarkably sophisticated for a Palm action game, though it's a little tricky to play. You steer your tank with pen strokes, where the length of the stoke determines your speed. Meanwhile, you'll have to select a weapon and tap the object that you want to hit. While you can shoot simple bullets, you'll find that missiles, anti-tailgating mines and smart (fire and forget) bombs are far more effective.
Understandably, it's difficult to control the tank as your enemy attacks in ever-increasing numbers. To make things worse, you must monitor your tank's health and ammo supplies. Luckily, there're vital ammo and repair power-ups that will keep your tank moving. FREEWARE

Train Scheduler - 121 KB
Train Scheduler comes in 2 forms: A Web-based applet and a Windows-based program. Both allow you to prepare realistic train schedules for your model railroad. They allow you to define your towns and trains, and can compute train schedules based on the speed and distances you assign. They display your schedule in a grid for easy editing, and also show your schedule in a common graphical format. The graph makes it easy for you to see where trains will meet or pass, and where adjustments need to be made. The schedule can be adjusted directly on the graph by dragging points on the graph. The schedule in the grid is adjusted to match. You can also click on any line on the graph to get information on the train (train name, direction, speed, etc.). The Windows program can also print your schedule in grid or graphical format, as well as saving your work to a file.
Some of the features of Train Scheduler are:
- Define unlimited number of towns.
- Define unlimited number of trains.
- Automatically calculates train schedule based on speed and towns served.
- Grid display for easy editing.
- Graphical display for easy review and adjustment.
- Graphically modify train schedule by dragging the mouse.
- Quick Info on any part of train schedule on the graph.
- Print the grid or the graph (Windows version only)
- Save your work to a file for future use (Windows version only)
