                Computer Announcements Expected

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 17, 1993 -- Intel Corporation today
announced prices for its new Pentium processors. In 1,000
unit quantities, the 66-MHz Pentium processor is priced at
$965 (U.S.) and the 60-MHz version at $878 (U.S.). In
addition, computer makers are expected to begin announcements
today of a wide variety of Pentium processor-based systems
from server to desktop.
"The Pentium processor enables a whole new class of
systems. We expect initial products to be high-end servers,
as corporations downsize applications, and high performance
desktops for customers who require increased performance,"
said Albert Yu, senior vice president and general manager of
the Microprocessor Products Group.
The Pentium processor is offered in 66- and 60-MHz
versions. The 66-MHz Pentium processor operates at 112 V1.1
Dhrystone MIPS and has a SPECint92 rating of 64.6, a SPECfp92
rating of 59.7 and an iCOMPTM index rating of 567. The
performance difference between the 66- and 60-MHz versions is
about ten percent.
The Pentium processor is fully compatible with today's
software and provides significant performance enhancement, all
without any modification. A number of software tool
developers are supplying new, high-performance tools and
compilers that will allow commercial and in-house developers
to achieve even greater performance from their applications
running on Pentium processor-based systems.
Intel expects many Pentium processor-based systems to
implement the Intel 82430 PCIset, a high-integration chip set
for PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) local bus. PCI
local bus, a major industry development allowing for
unprecedented I/O performance, enables a new level of
graphics, LAN capabilities and disk storage for personal
computers.

Upgradability

Many Intel486 DX2 CPU-based systems will be upgradable
with Pentium processor technology through a new family of
products in the Intel OverDrive processor family. OverDrive
processors based on Pentium processor technology will be
available in 1994.
Starting in the second half of 1993,
many Pentium processor-based systems will provide for
upgradability to future Intel processor technology.

Availability

Production versions are shipping now. Production of the
Pentium processor will ramp steadily as new production
capabilities come on line and Intel expects to ship hundreds
of thousands of units this year; in 1994, Intel expect to
cross the one million mark.
