                             EDITING.TXT For...

                     9xRamDrv.bat:  9x RamDrive (v1.3)
                     *********************************

This document will attempt to facilitate the editing of (9xRamDrv.bat) by
the user for the purpose of adjusting the amount of RAM that 9x RamDrive
will reserve for the system (thus making that RAM unavailable to apply
toward a ramdisk).

By default, 9x RamDrive reserves for the system approximately 46MB or 30MB
of RAM (for Win98 and Win95, respectively). The effect of this is seen only
when the SIZE menu is displaying "RECOMMENDED Sizes"; when "ALL Sizes" are
displayed, no reservation is in effect.

   | As stated in the (9xRamDrv.nfo) document, the SIZE menu option to
   | "Show RECOMMENDED Sizes Only" vs. "Show ALL Sizes" is included just
   | to sort of shield the non-technical user from unknowingly allocating
   | too much RAM for the ramdrive and thereby bogging down the system.

   | IMPORTANT:
   | ~~~~~~~~~~
   | If the amount of RAM in the system (or the amount of available RAM as
   | detected and displayed on the SIZE menu) is less than perhaps 50MB, it
   | is recommended that (9xRamDrv.bat) be user-edited according to the
   | instructions below. It is up to the user to make the adjustments and
   | find comfortable levels for their "RECOMMENDED Sizes" vs. "ALL Sizes"
   | menus.

PROCEDURE FOR EDITING 9XRAMDRV.BAT TO CHANGE
THE AMOUNT OF RAM RESERVED FOR THE SYSTEM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) First open (9xRamDrv.bat) in a text editor.
2) A simple example is really all the explaining that is necessary.  (Again,
   this only affects the "RECOMMENDED Sizes" menu offerings, not the menu
   for "ALL Sizes".)
   - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
   To change the amount of RAM reserved for the system from the defaults of
   46MB (for Win98) and 30MB (for Win95)  to  16MB (Win98) and 8MB (Win95),
   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~      ~~~~~~~~~~~~     ~~~~~~~~~~~

   simply edit the following two sections of code...

        -----------------------------------------------
        :1M
        set X2=4
        set X1=6
        goto 1O
        :1N
        set X2=3
        set X1=0
        :1O
        - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
        :1Q
        if .%Z7%.==.98. if .%W9%%X0%.==.48. goto 1R
        if .%Z7%.==.95. if .%W9%%X0%.==.32. goto 1R
        if .00%W9%%X0%.==.%Y3%%Y2%%Y1%%Y0%. set W8=0001
        if .%W8%.==.. goto 1O
        :1R
        -----------------------------------------------

   ...to look like this:

        -----------------------------------------------
        :1M
     *  set X2=1
     *  set X1=6
        goto 1O
        :1N
     *  set X2=0
     *  set X1=8
        :1O
        - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
        :1Q
     *  if .%Z7%.==.98. if .%W9%%X0%.==.18. goto 1R
     *  if .%Z7%.==.95. if .%W9%%X0%.==.10. goto 1R
        if .00%W9%%X0%.==.%Y3%%Y2%%Y1%%Y0%. set W8=0001
        if .%W8%.==.. goto 1O
        :1R
        -----------------------------------------------

   Lines denoted with "*" are the only lines that have been altered.

   Section :1M pertains to Win98, while section :1N is for Win95.
   Variable X2 holds the value for "tens" and X1 "ones".
   (Yes, at :1Q the values are increased by 2.)

   - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

   If, on the other hand, the desire is to have the "RECOMMENDED Sizes" menu
   display the same size offerings as the "ALL Sizes" menu, an edit to look
   like this is all that is necessary:

        -----------------------------------------------
        :1M
     *  set X2=0
     *  set X1=0
        goto 1O
        :1N
     *  set X2=0
     *  set X1=0
        :1O
        - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
        :1Q
        if .%Z7%.==.98. if .%W9%%X0%.==.48. goto 1R
        if .%Z7%.==.95. if .%W9%%X0%.==.32. goto 1R
        if .00%W9%%X0%.==.%Y3%%Y2%%Y1%%Y0%. set W8=0001
        if .%W8%.==.. goto 1O
        :1R
        -----------------------------------------------

   Again, lines denoted with "*" are the only lines that have been altered.

   - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

   | WARNING:
   | ~~~~~~~~
   | * Do not adjust the X2 and X1 values to represent a higher number than
   | the amount of available RAM as detected and displayed on the SIZE
   | menu. Doing this may throw the program into an endless loop (if this
   | occurs, try hitting [CTRL]+[C] to close the program down, but it will
   |   likely be futile).

3) Save the changes (woohoo!).

That's all there is to it. Feel free to further edit (9xRamDrv.bat) to
whatever extent desired.

                                  THE END
