FENRIC File Crypter documentation by EddyHawk
---
What
---
FENRIC is a file encrypter coded by EddyHawk (me).
It is part of PROTAGON File Crypter (PFC) series done by me.
FENRIC uses Fenris crypticore as 256bit key & 256bit IV stream cipher.
It uses SHA-512 hash function taken from WE Pascal sources.
It also uses EPHS & DAZZ-128 hash function.

What is Fenris
---
Fenris is a crypticore (cryptographic core) 'designed' by me.
'Developed' since 2009, crypticore is envisioned as a PRNG or random function
underlying all crypto primitives like CPRNG, block/stream ciphers
& hash functions, as opposed to somewhat unnatural tendency of the crypto
community to do the other way around (ex: build hash function from cipher,
or build CPRNG from cipher &/ hash function).
In this regard, crypticore is distantly related to sponge construction.
It is an ARX-C system with 2048bit state & operating on 32bit words.
My aims are simplicity, performance, & usage flexibility, while trying to pack
a bit of resistance against smart attacks.
It also power all PFCs (acts as PRNG for them) including FENRIC.

IP status: non-public.

What is EPHS
---
EPHS is a memory-hard Password Hashing Scheme 'designed' by EddyHawk [2015].
It attempts to solve 'problems' with PHC finalists by being a simplest,
easiest, conceptually fastest, hybrid PHS which is immune to cache-timing
 attacks.
It uses SHA-512 (but actually allows any 512bit hash function)
& Chicha/2 rounds (but actually allows any Salsa20/r or Chacha/r).
EPHS for Fenric uses 4Mb mem & 6 iterations.
It takes ~0.306 sec on my 7th cpu @0.8Ghz (~82Mb/sec bandwidth)

---
What is WE Pascal source
---
Wolfgang Ehrhardt (WE) creates an excellent collection of crypt Pascal sources
which is freely available in Internet, supporting Borland Pascal 7,
all flavors of Borland Delphi, Free Pascal Compiler, & Virtual Pascal,
 in single source.

SHA-512 hash function for FENRIC are also taken from that collection
[CRC_Hash 25 Aug 2014], also compiled under Virtual Pascal v2.1b279.

FENRIC specific features
---
Uses the same core as the stream cipher & the PRNG (allowing code sharing)

Wishlist
---
-Define hash function mode for Fenris
-The complete cryptosystem (CPRNG, hash function, stream cipher)
which are all based on Fenris.

FAQ
---
Why no description of Fenris?
Because it means that I have to prepare a formal & lengthy paper to describe
it, which I am too lazy to do right now :)
I also keep changing the algorithm (which is okay since Fenris acts natively
as PRNG) so it's kinda hard to write description for it. In other words,
 Fenris isn't yet final.

End.
