Introduction
------------

This program offers a user under Windows 9x, NT or 2000 eight options to:

1) Log off normally (normal prompting)
2) Log off forcibly (no prompting)
3) Shut down normally (normal prompting)
4) Shut down forcibly (no prompting)
5) Reboot after shutdown (normal prompting)
6) Reboot after shutdown (no prompting)
7) Power off after shutdown (normal prompting)
8) Power off after shutdown (no prompting)

Each option is checked with a Yes/No message box, which can be disabled using
the "Disable Confirmation" check box. A new addition which prompts the user
to minimise the program if s/he clicks on the X to close ShutOff 2000 will
also be bypassed by selecting this option.

The main window can be minimise to the system tray, and the Force and Disable
settings are saved in the registry.

If the application is already running (including if it is minimised to the
system tray) and the user double-clicks on the icon to start it again, a
warning will appear to indicate that ShutOff 2000 is already running.

Your registration key can be entered into the About box now, however this is
still in alpha stage, so it has not been developed fully yet. More on this in
a later version.

When a user clicks on the X to close ShutOff 2000, a message box will ask the
user whether s/he wants to close ShutOff 2000 or minimise to the system tray.

The 32-bit Windows help file for ShutOff 2000 has been updated.

Known Issues
------------

This program has been tested under:

1) Microsoft Windows 9x (all versions);
2) Microsoft Windows Me (Beta 3 and higher);
3) Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (SP3 and higher);
4) Microsoft Windows 2000 (all versions)

The code is dependent primarily on ADVAPI32.DLL, MSVBVM60.DLL and OLEAUT32.DLL,
which have been included with the distribution. Please note that your present
versions of ADVAPI32.DLL and OLEAUT32.DLL should be backed up before installing
ShutOff 2000. The DLL files will be copied into the Windows System directory,
usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32.

Some OEM versions of Microsoft Windows (Dell, Compaq, Mecer, Acer, etc.) may
cause a conflict with this product, specifically with the Power Off and Reboot
options.

Installation
------------

Unzip the files SETUP.EXE, SETUP.LST and SETUP.CAB to a temporary folder and
run SETUP.EXE. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of ShutOff 2000 (1.x or 2.x beta),
please uninstall it first (using the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs). This
is to ensure that you have the latest versions of each file.

Information
-----------

The program is based on the Microsoft Technet code for forcing a log off under
Windows NT 4.0. It has been rewritten to suit our environment, and may not work
on your system. We will NOT be held responsible for any loss of data that may
arise from the use or misuse of this product. Please always remember that a
forced log off or shutdown does NOT save any open files.

This program is an own risk application. We do not offer any technical support.
