Hello, User.

Correction:
-----------
Corrected Version, switched back to VB5, due to international issues
with the German VS6 package.

Product :
---------
Repair And Compact of MS-Access-Files from Commandline. Version 0.3.

Description:
------------
This little application can be used (from a batchfile or from a command
prompt) to repair and compact any access database, without loading Access
and pressing menu-commands. I originally created this app for my own
use, since i needed the opportunity to repair and compact an Access
database unattendedly.

BRIEF HISTORY :
New in Version 0.2:
-------------------
Command-Line-Switches for /Repair only, /Compact only, and /No GUI,
which are optional. See Usage for details.
Resource-File.

New in Version 0.3
------------------
Command-Switch for saving a Log-File instead of logging nothing in
/NoGUI mode.
Command-Parameter for providing database password.
Command-Switch for keeping or deleting temporary files.

New in Version 0.3b CURRENT VERSION
-----------------------------------
Corrected Version, switched back to VB5, due to international issues
with the German VS6 package.

To come in Version 0.4:
-----------------------
Translated Versions for anyone who is interested to translate the
resource-files. I'll be offering German, of course.

Required:
---------
ReCo32 runs, as the name implies, only in 32bit environments, like
Windows95, Windows98, Windows NT (4.0 or higher), but not under Win32s.
You can use ReCo32, however, to compact & repair Access Databases from
any version, regardless of 16 or 32bit. It is a little hack out of
Visual Basic 6.0, so VB-Runtime-Files (VBRuntime and DAO3.5) are required.
These are already installed on your system if you own Visual Basic
Professional >=6.0 or Microsoft Access Version >=7.0.
There is a Setup-Version of this program available, which installs the
proper environment, called ReCo3203.exe (about 3 Megs large), from my
website.

Usage :
---------
ReCo32 <fullpath and Access-mdb> [/c] [/r] [/n] [/l] [/p password]

Switches:
---------
/C : Compact Only, No Repair,
     Optional, default no
/R : Repair Only, No Compact,
     Optional, default no
This means by default the program both repairs and compacts.
/N : Show No GUI-Window, good for Batch-Files,
Optional, default no, which means window is shown
/L : Create a log-file called "ReCo32.log" in Application Dir,
     Optional, default off
/P <Password> : Provide a database password for MDB version > 2.5,
     Optional, default is no password.
/T : Keep temporary files,
Optional, default is off, which means files are deleted!!

Please keep in mind, not to use both /R and /C at the same time.
if you want to repair and compact, then just specify the access-file
and NO other parameter, except optionally /n (NoGUI).

Example :
---------
ReCo32 C:\DATA\DB.MDB /N /L /T

This example repairs and then compacts DB.MDB without showing a
GUI window, but logging to Reco32.log and keeping the temporary copy.

Remarks :
---------
The funcionality is pretty easy. It uses internal DAO 3.5 routines to
repair and compact the file. Since DAO needs a target-filename different
to the source database-name, a temporary file <EFxxx.TMP> will be created.
After compacting the (new) temporary file will be copied over the (old)
source database.

THIS TEMPORARY FILE WILL BE DELETED BY DEFAULT AFTER COMPACTING !
PLEASE USE /T SWITCH TO KEEP SAFE COPIES OF YOUR MDB FILES !

As a result you might have to cleanup your TEMP-Directory some time...

Freeware:
---------
ReCo32 is available free of charge. You can use and copy it anywhere you
like, without having to pay for it. Voluntar donations are welcome though.
