GRAPHING .dbf files in DOALL
****************************

THREE TYPES OF FILES THAT CAN BE GRAPHED
*****************************************
1. File containing one character field and one numeric field.

This is the default. The GRAPHONE.DBF file is created for you.
You are prompted for the "character" type field that you wish to graph.
For example, say you selected the STATE field, the number of records in
each state will be tallied, and a bar will be displayed and labeled for
each city (with the number of occurrences of that city in your file).

BAR VALUES will be the sum of each character field occurrence.
BAR LABELS will be each character field occurrence.

                     |
                     |
                 200 |
                     |                   170
                     |      101        ------
                 100 |     ------      |    |
                     |     |    |      |    |
                     |     |    |      |    |
                     ------------------------------->
                             NY          CA

2. File containing ALL numeric values

If this file doesn't already exist, you can "export" it from doall.
To automatically access this file, name it GRAPHONE.DBF.
All field types must be numeric, and the file contains just 1 record
with all values.
For example, if your file has fields like APPLES, MELONS, etc. with
values like 12,17, etc., the result will be similar to the graph below.

BAR VALUES will be the value in of each numeric field.
BAR LABELS will be the field name.

                     |
                     |
                  20 |
                     |                   17
                     |       12        ------
                  10 |     ------      |    |
                     |     |    |      |    |
                     |     |    |      |    |
                     ------------------------------->
                           APPLES      MELONS

3. File with one descriptive character field, followed by numeric fields.

If this file doesn't already exist, you can "export" it from doall.
To automatically access this file, name it GRAPHONE.DBF.
Although similar to graph #2, this file must start with a character
field, and have multiple records.

For example, your graph will be similar (below) if your file looks like:

           CITY           APPLES        MELONS       ------->

            NY              2             3          ------->
            Chicago         4             1          ------->
            LA              1             2          ------->
            LA              6             1          ------->
            Chicago         5             5          ------->
            NY              2             4          ------->

BAR VALUES will be the sum in each numeric field.
BAR LABELS will be the field name of each numeric field.
LEGEND will be based on the value in the character field.

                     |
                     |
                     |
                     |
                  10 |
                     |       _9_
                     |       |X|        _7_
                     |       |X|_7      |*|_6
                     |       |X|#|      |*|X|
                   5 |       |X|#|      |*|X|
                     |     4_|X|#|      |*|X|
                     |     |*|X|#|      |*|X|_3
                     |     |*|X|#|      |*|X|#|
                     |     |*|X|#|      |*|X|#|
                     ------------------------------->
                           APPLES      MELONS

                      _______________________________
                      |                             |
                      |  *=NY    X=Chicago   #=LA   |
                      |_____________________________|

Note: In this example, if you have multiple records for NY and Chicago
and LA etc., your system will combine all of these like records into
one record. If you want to see this example in action, rename the
sample file graph3.dbf to graphone.dbf. When you enter the graphing
mode you will be asked if you want to use this file instead of making
a new one.

Hint: If you are unsure of whether a field is a character or numeric
      type, select OPTIONS and FILE MAINTENANCE. Select PRINT LIST
      OF FIELDS IN FILE and you can review the different types.

Hint: When exporting a file, you can select specific records and
      also define which fields are exported, and in what order.
