This is a special release of the Ladebug(tm) debugger to accompany the
Compaq(tm) Fortran, C, and CXX Compilers for Alpha(tm) Linux systems.

This version does not correspond to any previously released version of the
Ladebug debugger for Tru64(tm) systems.

The debugger understands ELF object files containing Dwarf2 debugging
information. Most compilers for Alpha Linux systems do not put out Dwarf2,
and hence debugging within such .o files will be severely limited. The above
referenced compilers do put out Dwarf2 debugging information.

This release contains:

    This README file.

The ladebug executable file, which requires no special installation.
A normal user can run it from any directory.

    A ladebug.1.gz man pages file.

    A ladebug.cat message catalog file.

A ladebug.el file (that's required for running ladebug from within emacs).
This can be used in conjunction with the -emacs option, which causes
file/line number markers to be output, which have the same syntax
    as those of gdb.

The latest manuals in browsable format (both the ladebug_debugger_manual
    and the ladebug_debugger_advanced_topics manual).

The release-notes from the most recent Tru64 release.

If you are familiar with the ladebug debugger on Compaq Tru64 systems, you will
have little to no difficulty adapting to this Linux version.

Limitations (i.e. features not yet implemented):

No support for non ELF/Dwarf2 binaries.

    No support for the GUI.

    No support for watchpoints.

    No support for snapshots.

    No support for threads.

    No support for kernel debugging.

    No support for remote debugging.

No support for the ADA language.

No support for the COBOL language.

Please note that under some circumstances, attempting to use any of the
features that are listed above (as limitations) may result in an abnormal
termination of the debugger.
