The Compaq Survey Utility is an information - gathering agent that installs and runs on an active Compaq ProLiant or Prosignia server. It helps maximize server availability by streamlining the configuration analysis and troubleshooting process. The Survey Utility gathers both critical hardware and operating system information in a single tool, without the need to take the server down. It is available for Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, Novell NetWare, and Linux Intel environments.
The Compaq Survey Utility includes a Web browser interface in addition to a command line interface. This enables remote control of the utility and facilitates easy transfer of Survey information from remote machines to a service provider.
Information the utility gathers is accessible two ways:
As a plain text file (SURVEY.TXT)
As a dynamic web page remotely or locally through a browser (http://system-name:2301)
You can use the Compaq Survey Utility to perform the following functions:
View the hardware and software configuration of the system
Compare historical configurations of the system
Capture a new configuration sample
Download the Configuration History file (SURVEY.IDI) from the system to your local workstation for mailing to a service provider, or for archival purposes
Analyze a configuration file from another system
The Compaq Survey Utility is normally installed to run at boot-up and regularly at specified time intervals to ensure that the latest information and change history are always recorded and available when needed. You can modify the data-gathering interval by modifying the command line parameters.
