Installing Compaq Survey Utility on Windows NT and Windows 2000

You can install the Compaq Survey Utility on a Windows system using one of the following methods:


IMPORTANT:  The Windows NT and Windows 2000 versions of the Compaq Survey Utility install in the \Compaq\Survey directory on the same drive on which Windows NT or Windows 2000 is installed.


Installing Through the SmartStart Setup Process return to top

To install the Compaq Survey Utility through the SmartStart Setup process, refer to the SmartStart installation poster. The method described in the poster installs an operating system and the Compaq products on a server. It also sets the default data-gathering interval to Wednesday at noon, with the Survey Utility taking samples once every seven days, and at every power-on.


IMPORTANT:  Do not use this method to add the Compaq Survey Utility to an existing system.


Installing from the Compaq Management CD on Windows NT or Windows 2000 return to top

To install the Compaq Survey Utility from the Compaq Management CD on a Windows system, you must be logged on with administrator access rights. When you are logged on, choose:

  1. From the Compaq Management CD Autorun window, select Compaq Management Agents for Servers.

  2. Select Compaq Survey Utility.

or

  1. Select Start, Run from the Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 Program Manager.

  2. Enter:

    D:\Survey\Win-NT\Setup.exe (where D: is the CD drive letter)

This causes the utility to load automatically every time you boot the system and to take snapshots at every boot and every Wednesday at noon.

NOTE: This is an online installation. You do not have to reboot the system.


Installing from a Softpaq on Windows NT or Windows 2000 return to top

To install the Survey Utility from a Softpaq on a Windows system:

  1. Download the Softpaq executable from http://www.compaq.com.

  2. Copy the Softpaq to a temporary directory in the target system.

  3. Run the Softpaq executable, which expands the software into the temporary directory.

NOTE: If installing on a Windows server, you must be logged on with administrator access rights.

  1. Enter the following at the Windows command prompt from the temporary directory:

    Setup.exe

This causes the Survey Utility to automatically load every time you boot the system and to take snapshots at every boot and every Wednesday at noon.

NOTE: This is an online installation. You do not have to reboot the system.


Installing from the Compaq Integration Maintenance Utility on Windows NT or Windows 2000 return to top

To install Compaq Survey Utility on a Windows server through the Compaq Integration Maintenance Utility, first set up the server using SmartStart. Then log on to the server with administrator access rights. When you are logged on, select the Compaq Integration Maintenance Utility icon from the Compaq Products and Services group box. Select Help in the utility for more information.

NOTE: This is an online installation. You do not have to reboot the server.
