The Windows software has been tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and 5.0, on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, and with Netscape Navigator 4.0 and 5.0 on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.
The Novell NetWare software has been tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and 5.0, and Netscape Navigator 4.05.
The minimum browser requirements must be met for the Web-enabled Compaq Survey Utility to work correctly. Browsers used with different operating systems, may or may not work correctly, depending on how they are implemented.
If you are unable to access a machine that has Web-enabled Compaq Management Agents installed with a URL such as:
http://127.0.0.1:2301/
http://localhost:2301/
Try adding the address to the No Proxy list in the browser.
Internet Explorer does not print background colors and images by default.
When switching from the Compaq Survey Utility browser window to another application, you may see the colors in the browser window change. This effect is not specific to the Compaq Survey Utility window, but may happen when looking at other pages with a browser under the same conditions.
When the browser window is resized with Netscape Navigator 4.x, the window or frames within the window may go blank. This condition is due to the JavaScript in the page not being re- evaluated. To view the page, right-click in the frame, and select Reload Frame.
Frame sizes are optimized for medium fonts. If you switch your browser to use larger or smaller fonts, then you will need to manually adjust the frame layout using the mouse.
Q: I can see
the device home page, but there are no links for agents on the page. Why?
A: JavaScript is not supported or enabled. If you are using a recommended
browser, ensure that JavaScript is enabled.
Q:
When I log in, I get a Java error, but
I do not get prompted for Account and Password. Why?
A: Either the browser does not fully support JDK 1.1 Java applets
or Java support has been disabled. Ensure that Java support is enabled
in the browser. If the browser does not provide this support, upgrade
to a browser that fully supports JDK 1.1 Java applets. If you are using
Netscape Navigator, update the browser with the JDK 1.1 patch as shown
under Browser Recommendations above.
Q:
Is there an easier way to access the
local device with my browser without having to find out its IP address?
A: Yes. You can access the local device at:
http://localhost:2301
http://127.0.0.1:2301
NOTE: The word localhost will not work in all languages. If you have a proxy server configured in your browser, you may need to add 127.0.0.1 to the list of addresses that should NOT be proxied.
Q: I can successfully
access some Web-enabled devices, but I cannot access others. Why?
A: If your browser has a proxy server configured, enter the address
of the Web-enabled device in the list of addresses that should NOT be
proxied.
Q: When I
access a device, I get prompted many times to accept cookies. Why?
A: Browser cookies keep track of user state and security. Cookies
must be enabled in the browser; however, you may disable the prompting
for acceptance of cookies.
Q: I entered
a valid account and password to change my access level. It was accepted,
but the Web page still indicates that I only have Anonymous access. Why?
A: Browser cookies maybe disabled. Enable cookies in the browser.
They are required for security.
Q:
I entered a valid account and password
to change my access level, but it reports "Incorrect, try again."
A: Click on the browser Refresh
button, and reenter the account and password. The User needs to be aware
that both the account name and password are case sensitive.
Q:
How do I add my own user name and password
to the device?
A: There are only three account names that can be used for login
access: administrator, operator, and user. Passwords for these accounts
can be changed by providing the administrator password. Anonymous access
to some information is available without logging in. There is no support
for individual user accounts.
