The Compaq Survey Utility outputs reports to the SURVEY.TXT file. This file is located in the SYS:SYSTEM directory. Use any text editor to view or print the SURVEY.TXT file.
If a significant change occurs between data collections, the previous information is marked, and the SURVEY.TXT file is overwritten to reflect the latest configuration and changes from the original configuration. By running the Survey Utility with different command line parameters, you can change the contents of the SURVEY.TXT file.
The optional command line parameters are listed below:
|
-oX[,Y] |
Generate a single session or a comparison output of sessions "X" and "Y" as a report in the SURVEY.TXT file. If Y is specified, a delta report is generated with X considered as the basis for comparison. The delta report contains all of the information from session X with the addition of information that was added, removed, or changed in session Y. The additional information is marked with either a "(+)" indicating this item was added or "(-)" indicating this item was removed. A changed item is indicated with a (+) showing an addition and a (-) showing the previous item or value. The default generates a comparison report between the most recent session (the Active session) and the original session. The Active session is referenced as session 1, and the original session is session 2. |
|
-oIDIFileX,X,IDIFileY,Y |
This commands performs the same functiohn as the command above, except the location of the .IDI file is specified for each session. This allows the configurations of different machines to be compared. |
|
-fCheckpoint |
Generate a comparison output showing only information that caused a Checkpoint. A Checkpoint is determined programmatically as an item that was "significantly different" from the previous session. NOTE: When generating a report through the browser, this report is referred to as Show Only Major Differences. |
|
-fDifference |
Generate a comparison output showing only information that was different between sessions. In most cases, the information that exists in the sessions is transient in nature (that is, the number and type of processes running and this level of report generation displays these differences in addition to those reported by the Checkpoint level.) NOTE: When generating a report through the browser, this report is referred to as Show All Differences. |
|
-fSummary |
Generate a comparison output showing summary level information. Summary information is most appropriate for configuration management because it shows the system configuration in abbreviated form. NOTE: When generating a report through the browser, this report is referred to as Show Standard Details and Differences. |
|
-fAdvanced |
Generate a comparison output showing advanced level information (default). Advanced information is considered expert level and is most appropriate for problem resolution because it is considerably more detailed than summary information. NOTE: When generating a report through the browser, this report is referred to as Show More Detail and Differences. |
|
-fExpert |
Generate a comparison output showing expert level information. The expert level is the most extensive level of information available. It usually is not necessary to provide this level of information. But in some cases, the information contained in this level may not have been interpreted for a lower report level. NOTE: When generating a report through the browser, this report is referred to as Show All Detail and Differences. |
|
-wX |
Wait X minutes before taking initial sample after program startup. |
|
-i |
Install or update Compaq Survey Utility. |
|
-v |
Get the version and configuration information for the current installation of the Compaq Survey Utility. |
|
-r |
Disable remote access (do not load Web browser support). |
|
-? |
List available command line parameters. |
EXAMPLES:
LOAD SURVEY -o3,2
No snapshot is taken and a new SURVEY.TXT file is generated based on the comparison of sessions 3 and 2.
LOAD SURVEY -o3,2 -fCheckpoint
A new SURVEY.TXT file is generated showing only the information that caused a checkpoint between sessions 3 and 2.
