You can install the Compaq Survey Utility on a Windows system from one of the following methods:
IMPORTANT: The Windows NT and Windows 2000 versions of the Compaq Survey Utility install in the \COMPAQ\SURVEY directory on the same drive on which Windows NT or Windows 2000 is installed.
To install the Compaq Survey Utility through the SmartStart Setup process, refer to the SmartStart installation poster. The method described in the poster installs an operating system and the Compaq products on a server. It also sets the default data-gathering interval to Wednesday at 6:00 A.M. with the Survey Utility taking samples once every seven days, and each time you reboot the servers.
IMPORTANT: Do not use this method to add the Compaq Survey Utility to an existing system.
To install the Compaq Survey Utility from the Compaq Management CD on a Windows system, you must be logged on with administrator access rights. When you are logged on, choose:
From the Compaq Management CD Autorun window, select Install Survey for Window
Or
Select Start, Run from the Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 Program Manager.
Enter:
D:\Survey\Win-NT\Install.exe
(where D: is the CD drive letter)
The utility is set to load automatically every time you boot the system and take snapshots at every boot and on every Wednesday at 6:00 A.M.
NOTE: This is an online installation. You do not have to reboot the system at the end of the installation process.NOTE: First time Users of Survey or the Agents will have to complete the following steps. If Survey or the Agents have ever been installed you can skip these steps.
To install the Compaq Survey Utility from the Compaq Management CD on a Windows system, you must be logged on with administrator access rights.
When you are logged on, choose:
1. From the Compaq Management CD Autorun window, select Install Survey for Windows.
2. The Welcome dialog box will display as shown below. Click the Next button.
3. The Login Accounts dialog box will display. Enter the account password in the field, then re-enter the password to confirm. Click the Next button.
NOTE: Compaq HTTP Server has three accounts with different access levels. These are the only accounts Compaq HTTP Server supports. If you are logging in to a Compaq HTTP Server from Compaq Insight Manager 7 using Single Login, you will be logged into Compaq HTTP Server with the HTTP server account that matches the Insight Manager 7 account setting for Automatic Device Authentication. The login Accounts dialog box enables you to set the Administrator, Operator and User passwords
NOTE: The Login Accounts dialog box requires that the Administrator password be set. The Operator and User passwords are not required
NOTE: If you chose to cancel the setup of passwords you will not be able to use the Web-enabled Compaq Survey Utility.
4. The Trust Mode Dialog Box will display as shown below.
NOTE: The Trust Mode dialog box allows you to select the level of security you wish to provide. The Trust by Certificates option is the default selection on the Trust Mode dialog box since it provides the most security.
a. If you select Trust by Certificates, click the Next button. the Certificate Files dialog box will display as shown below.
NOTE: This Trust by Certificates option will require the submitted server to provide authentication by means of certificates. This mode is the strongest method of security, since it requires certificate data and verifies the digital signature before allowing access.
b. If you select Trust All, click the Finish button. The installation is complete.
NOTE: The Trust Mode dialog box displays a Finish button if you select Trust All, the Trust Mode dialog box displays a Finish button.
NOTE: The Trust All option leaves your system vulnerable to security attacks. The Trust All option will setup the HTTP Server to accept certain requests from any server. An example of why you may want to use Trust All would be if you have a secure network, and everyone in the network is trusted.
c. If you select Trust by Name, click the Next button.
The Trusted Devices dialog box will display as shown in Figure 1-4.
NOTE: Although Trust By Name mode is a slightly stronger method of security than the Trust All mode, it still leaves your system vulnerable to security attacks. The Trust by Name mode will setup the HTTP Server to only accept certain requests from servers with the Compaq Insight Manager 7 names designated in the Trust By Name field: The Trust by Name option is easy to configure, and will prevent non-malicious access. An example of why you may want to use Trust by Name would be if you have a secure network but your network has two groups of administrators in two separate divisions, it would prevent one group from installing software to the wrong system. This option will not verify anything other than the Compaq Insight Manger 7 server name submitted.
a. Click the Add Name button to add the name of a device you want to trust. A dialog box will display asking you to enter the name of the device you want to trust.
b. Enter the name of the device you want to trust.
c. Click the Finish button.
NOTE: The Delete button allows you to remove any of the trusted names that are displayed. To delete a name, select the name you want to delete and click the Delete button.
a. Click the Add File button. A dialog box will display.
b. Enter the name of the file you wish to add. Click the OK button. The file name you entered will display in the Trusted Certificates List.
NOTE: For more information regarding exporting a certificate from Compaq Insight Manger 7, refer to the Technical Reference Guide; Chapter 11, Settings for Security, Exporting the Compaq Insight Manager 7 Server Certificate
NOTE: The Delete button allows you to remove any of the files displayed. To delete a file, select the file you wish to delete and click the Delete button.
5. Click the Finish button. The installation is complete.
You can acquire the bundle from the Smart Start CD. Click the Install Compaq Support Paq icon. That will launch the bundle and the Compaq Remote Deployment Utility page will display as shown below.
From the Menu, select Tools, then Package Configuration Tool. The Compaq Component Configuration Tool page will display as shown below.
Next select the Compaq Survey Utility for Windows link. The Compaq Survey Utility for Windows Configuration page will display as shown below. You must enter your password, and then re-enter to confirm. Select Save.
The Compaq Component Tool page will display again and you have the option to configure more components or chose Close.
Once you Close the page you are returned to the Compaq Remote Deployment Utility page. You may now proceed with the bundle installation. Select the Install button.
To install the Survey Utility from a component on a Windows system:

Copy the Software to a temporary directory in the target system.
Run the Component executable, which expands the software into the temporary directory, then performs the installation.
For silent mode operation, use the following option:
<Component Name> /s

NOTE: This is an online installation. You do not have to reboot the system.To install Compaq Survey Utility on a Windows server through the Compaq Integration Maintenance Utility, use the following steps:
1. Set up the server using SmartStart.
2. Log on to the server with administrator access rights.
3. Select the Compaq Integration Maintenance Utility icon from the Compaq Products and Services group box.
4. Select Help in the utility for more information.
