<h1><img src="images/l_logdr.gif" width="28" height="28">&nbsp;Increasing logical device size</h1>
<p>Use this action to add space to an existing logical device so you can increase its
  size. </p>
<p>When you create a logical device, it is striped across all of the physical drives
  used by the logical device. To increase the size of an existing logical device,
  you add <a href="gsegment.htm">segments</a> to the logical device, which can
  be on the same or different disks. Then, the HP Storage Manager migrates the
  logical device such that the <a href="cmorelds.htm">data is spread across</a>
  the existing <strong>and</strong> new physical drives. </p>

      <li>The capacity of the modified logical device must match or exceed its
        current capacity.<br>

      <li>The maximum size of a logical device is 256 terabytes (TB) (2 terabytes for HostRAID controllers). <br>

  <li> In the <a href="cusegui4.htm">Logical devices view</a>, click <img src="images/s_logdr1.gif" width="28" height="20">&nbsp;(logical
    drive).<br>

  <li>Right-click <b>Expand or change logical device</b>. The Configuration wizard
    opens with the &quot;Choose RAID level&quot; window. Click <strong>Next</strong>.
    The &quot;Create logical devices&quot; window opens.<br>
    <br>
  </li>
  <li><a href="wcfgldcc.htm">Add segments to the logical device</a>. Optionally,
    click <strong>Advanced</strong> to select a new <a href="cstripe.htm">stripe
    size</a> for the logical device.<br>
    <p><b><img src="images/note.gif" width="15" height="17"></b> <strong>Note:</strong>
      To remove or replace a physical drive, click the drive you want to remove
      (indicated by <img src="images/s_rmdrv.gif" width="17" height="15" align="absbottom">);
      then, click the drive you want to replace it with. To cancel your changes and start over, click <img src="images/revertld.gif" align="absbottom">.<br>

    <p>When you are ready to continue, click <b>Next</b>. The &quot;Configuration summary&quot;
      window opens.<br>

  <li><a href="wsuldmcc.htm">Review and apply your new configuration or schedule
    the migration for another time.</a> <br>

  <li>After the logical-drive migration is complete, create additional partitions
    to use the expanded logical-drive space. If the server is a Microsoft Windows
    system, you can <a href="cpartitn.htm">extend the size of a pre-existing partition</a>
    with the newly acquired logical-drive space. <br>
