<h1>Starting the HP Storage Manager agent</h1>
<p>The HP Storage Manager agent is a monitoring agent for controllers
  that uses less memory than the HP Storage Manager graphical user interface (that
  is, the console). You can manage and configure a server
  running the agent through a HP Storage Manager console running on another system.</p>
<p> <b><img src="images/note.gif" width="15" height="17"> Note:</b> If the system
  administrator chose during installation to start the agent as a background service
  (daemon), the agent is already running. <a href="cvragent.htm">Verify that the
  agent is not running before performing this procedure.</a> </p>
<p>Use the following procedure to start the HP Storage Manager agent on your system.</p>

<h2>Windows</h2>
<p>On Windows systems, the HP Storage Manager agent is installed as a background service. It starts automatically when
the system is started. To start the agent manually, use the Windows Administrative tools. See <a href="cvragent.htm">
Verifying that the agent is running</a>.</p>


<h2>NetWare</h2>
<p>To start the HP Storage Manager agent on NetWare: </p>
<ol>
  <li>From the NetWare console, type the following: <br>
    <br>
    LOAD RaidAgnt <br>
    <br>
  </li>
  <li>Press Enter. <br>
  </li>
</ol>

<h2>OpenServer, UnixWare, and Open UNIX</h2>
<p>To start the HP Storage Manager agent on OpenServer, UnixWare, and Open UNIX: </p>
<ol>
  <li>Change to the directory where you installed the HP Storage Manager program
    by typing one of the following: <br>

  <li>Press Enter. <br>
    <br>
  </li>
  <li>Type the following: <br>

    sh RaidAgnt.sh <br>
    <br>
  </li>
  <li>Press Enter.</li>

<h2>Linux</h2>

On Linux systems, the HP Storage Manager agent runs as a background process (daemon). It starts automatically when
the system is started. It is loaded from the following location: <pre>/etc/init.d/stor_agent</pre>
