  Creating a hot-spare drive</h1>

<p>Use this action to create a <a href="ghsd.htm">hot-spare</a> drive.</p>
<ol>
  <li>In the <a href="cusegui4.htm">Physical devices view</a>, click <img src="images/drive.gif" width="28" height="20" align="absbottom">
    (<a href="grdy.htm">ready</a> physical drive).<br>
    <br>
  </li>
  <li> Click <img src="images/spare.gif" width="21" height="20" align="absbottom">
    in the Logical devices view. The HP Storage Manager creates the hot-spare drive.
     <p><br><img src="images/note.gif" width="15" height="17"><b> Note:</b>
	   A hot-spare drive with a blue plus sign next to it indicates that the logical devices are protected by the hot spare.
	   A hot-spare drive with a yellow plus sign next to it indicates that:<p>
	   <ul>
	    <li>The drive is too small to protect any drives in the logical devices</li>
	    <li>None of the logical devices support hot spares (for example, a RAID Level-0 logical device)</li>
	    <li>No logical devices are defined</li>
    </ul>
