The kickstart file (ks.cfg) can be used to automate the RHAS installation process and
replicate the same package list used by the Intel Development team. The ks.cfg file
can also be used to specify raid array configurations to the RHAS installer. Please
customize the "installation media" and "disk partitioning" sections of the ks.cfg file
to match YOUR installation media and YOUR IDE PATA/SATA configuration before
attempting to use it. If you do not have disks needed for the RAID configurations
attached to your system, comment out all the raid setup stuff from the ks.cfg file.
See "Installation (from sources)" for more details.

8) Loading the Drivers
=======================

8.1) Loading IDE-SATA Drivers
========================
- Automatic, no manual intervention required
- Details of autodectection/configuration of ide/sata devices can be
  viewed by looking at /var/log/dmesg or /proc/ide

8.2) Loading USB Drivers
====================
USB 1.1 UHCI Driver
- Automatic, no manual intervention required
- Details of autodetction of UHCI can be viewed in /var/log/dmesg

USB 2.0 EHCI Driver
- Not supported by 2.4.9-e.24 kernel shipped with RHAS v2.1

USB HUB/Device Specific Drivers

- Run 'modprobe usb-storage' (For USB hard drives)
- Run 'mount -t usbdevfs none /proc/bus/usb'

8.3) Loading AC97 ALSA Sound Drivers
===============================
- run modprobe snd-intel8x0
- alsa build/install procedure adds this to /etc/modules.conf
  to load sound drivers on each reboot
- See Verifying AC97 Audio support (below) for more details

8.4) Loading SMBUS I2C Driver
=======================
- see readme.txt file in patches/smbus dir

8.6) Loading WDT Driver & WDT Dameon App
=================
- see esbwdt-doc.txt in sources/esbwdt dir

8.7) Loading RAID Support
====================
Automatic, no manual intervention required...Kernel SoftRAID driver autodetects
raid partions on each boot and starts raid arrays as defined in /etc/raidtab.
Easiest way to setup /etc/raidtab is to perform RHAS installation using a raid
enabled kickstart file (ks.cfg)...the RHAS installer will create raid partions and
setup optimized /etc/raidtab file for you.

9) Verifying Driver Pkg/Platform Functionality
==============================================

9.1) Verifying LSPCI Support
=======================
- run lspci to list PCI devices present on the platform
- pci devices integrated into the southbridge will show
  "ESB" in the name string identifier

9.2) Verifying IOAPIC (vs 8259 PIC) Support
======================================
- Lastest update of RH's 2.4.9-e.24 kernel does not appear to support UPAPIC kernel
  parameter...you must be running an SMP kernel to enable IOAPICs
- cat /proc/interrupts will show something like:

           CPU0       CPU1
  0:     340490     335354    IO-APIC-edge  timer
  1:       7268       7285    IO-APIC-edge  keyboard
  2:          0          0          XT-PIC  cascade
  8:          1          0    IO-APIC-edge  rtc
 12:      54023      53411    IO-APIC-edge  PS/2 Mouse
 14:       6354       6377    IO-APIC-edge  ide0
 15:          3          5    IO-APIC-edge  ide1
 16:          0          0   IO-APIC-level  usb-uhci
 17:        982         63   IO-APIC-level  Intel ICH
 19:          0          0   IO-APIC-level  usb-uhci
 22:      11777      12201   IO-APIC-level  eth0
NMI:          0          0
LOC:     675764     675763
ERR:          0
MIS:          0

9.3) Verifying P4 Hyperthreading
============================
- build and boot the SMP kernel
- cat /proc/cpuinfo will show 2 CPUs
- cat /proc/interrupts will also show 2 CPUs
- assumes
	- you have a Hyperthreading capable CPU installed
	- system bios properly supports the P4 Hyperthreading feature

9.4) Verifying AC97 Audio support
============================
alsamixer use to adjust volumes, mute/unmute using the M key
alsactl	store 0 copies current mixer settings to /etc/asound.state
alsactl restore 0	restores mixer settings from /etc/asound.state
			- add to system init to avoid having to manually
aplay file.wav		- plays a wave file

To get RHAS XMMS to use alsa sound drivers:

 Install alsa output plugin for xmms (alsa-xmms-0.9.96b.tar.gz)
        untar
        cd into alsa-xmms-0.9.96b dir
        ./configure
        make install
        ... libraries get installed to /usr/lib/xmms/output

 Configure xmms using
        options > preferences > audio i/o plugins > output plugin =
        alsa 0.9 output plugin

 Note:
	- ISO's for RedHat's Q2 2003 update for RHAS product do not
	  provide mpeg input plugin for xmms
	- If you want to play mp3 files using xmms, you must install
	  libmpg123.so and libmpg123.la from xmms-1.2.5-7.i386.rpm
	  (do google search for xmms-1.2.5-7.i386.rpm to find it)

9.5) Verifying RAID Configurations
==============================
- run cat /proc/mdstat to check status & raid levels...see example below:

Personalities : [raid0] [raid1] [raid5]
read_ahead 1024 sectors
md2 : active raid5 hda6[0] hdc6[1] hdd6[2]

11) Software Errata
================

Following errata are againest gold_1_rc2 of the ESB_RHAS Driver Package

	>> ON ESB 'PETOSKI' Customer Reference Board <<

11.1) Distribution specific errata
---------------------------------

11.1.1) Kickstart based installs do not work from CDROM & HD, only network based
	installs from ftp have been verified.

11.1.2) USB 2.0 is not supported by RedHat Advanced Server v2.1 using thier
	2.4.9.e-24 kernel... contact RedHat for support.

11.2) Drivers specific errata
-----------------------------
11.2.1) Following platfrom features have not been validated with this (gold_1_rc2)
	of the esb6300-rhas driver package:
	- Power Management (ACPI)
	- USB 2.0
	- Heceta 6 System Monitoring

	Following features have been validated:
	- IDE
	- SATA
	- AC97 Audio
	- SMBUS
	- LSPCI support for devices integrated into the esb6300 southbridge
	- USB 1.1
	- WDT
	- IOAPIC
	- SMP/Hyperthreading
	- APM suspend/resume (UP kernel only)

11.3) Platform specific errata
-------------------------------
Platform:	Hance Rapids Petoski CRB
BIOS:		A102, B105, B200, & B205

11.3.1) 2.4.9.e-3esb & stock 2.4.9-e.24 kernels fail to recognize/enable IOAPICs
	Regardless of BIOS settings for MPS Table versions, cat /proc/interrupts
	reports only the 16 legacy 8259 XT-PIC interrupts

11.3.2) Setting IDE/SATA config = PATA-Only in system bios
	&
	Having SATA Drives connected

	will cause RHAS OS to hang during kernel start up

	Workaround:
	> Configure IDE/SATA mode = PATA and SATA
	> This is the default settings if you configure the system bios using its
	  'Optimal Settings'

11.3.3) Using BIOS 'Optimal settings' for IDE/SATA configs
	&
	Having both PATA and SATA drives connected

	will cause following issues:

	a) kickstart based os installs may fail to find a harddisk
	b) kickstart based os installation specd to 1st pata drive (hda) will
	   endup on 1st sata drive...installation will appear to have completed
	   successfully, however, the boot loader will fail to boot the system
	   because the kernel ended up on 1st sata drive instead of 1st pata drive
	c) kickstart based softRAID setups will fail due to this issue.

	Workarounds:
	> Use BIOS 'Optimal Settings' for IDE/SATA Config
	> Connect only PATA drives when installing the OS
	> After installing the OS, upgrade to the 2.4.9-e.24esb kernel provided by
	  this driver package, you can add SATA drives
	> If you want to us softRAID, manually configure it after doing above 3 steps
