======== using xmms on RHAS v21 with ALSA ========================

7) To get RHASv21 XMMS to play mp3s using alsa sound drivers:

7.1 Verify xmms-devel* and xmms-skins* rpms are installed
	> if not, install from rhas v21 disc3

7.2 Install alsa output plugin for xmms (alsa-xmms-0.9.96b.tar.gz)
        untar
        cd into alsa-xmms-0.9.96b dir
        ./configure
        make install
... libraries get installed to /usr/lib/xmms/output

7.3 Configure xmms using
        options > preferences > audio i/o plugins > output plugin =
        alsa 0.9 output plugin
        options > preferences > audio i/o plugins > input plugin =
        MPEG Layer <blah blah> Player 1.2.7 [libmpg123.so]
 Note:
	- ISO's for RedHat's Q2 2003 update for RHAS product do not
provide mpeg input plugin for xmms
	- If you want to play mp3 files using xmms, you must install
	  libmpg123.so and libmpg123.la from xmms-1.2.5-7.i386.rpm
(do google search for xmms-1.2.5-7.i386.rpm to find it)

7.4 xmms Visualization plugins
setup mp3 files in playlist and start one playing
	visualization > visualization plugins
		> click on the plugin (ex: OpenGL Spectrum analyzer)
		> click Enable plugin
