| Assigning a Spare |
|
For links and interfaces common to all Assisted Configuration links, please see Assisted Overview in ACU-XE help. The following screens allow you to assign a spare drive to an array. Assigning a Spare Note: The fault tolerance method is called RAID 1 when the number of physical drives is two, and called RAID 0+1 when the number of physical drives is greater than two. When more than two physical drives are used, and RAID 1 is selected, RAID 0+1 is used. RAID 0+1 first stripes your data across half of the disks, then mirrors this data to the other half. Your first option will be to select the array you want to add a spare to from the available arrays listed. The second option will be to select the spare drive you want to add to the array from the available physical drives listed. Note: Only physical drives of the same size (within 10 percent) should be added to the same array because all the drives within an array are reduced to the size of the smallest physical drive. For example, an array with three 2.1-GB drives and a 4.3-GB drive would be viewed as being the same size as an array with four 2.1-GB drives since the 4.3-GB drive is seen as a 2.1-GB drive. |
