Help File Requirements

Browser Requirements

The browser must have the following features supported, and enabled:

The HP Web-enabled System Management software requires Java™ for full functionality. At a minimum, the help system relies on a Java Applet to provide the table of contents, index, and search capability. Depending on what Web-enabled management software is installed, other features that are either partially or fully dependent on the presence of Java support in the browser might be present.

The Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM) can be obtained directly from the Management CD produced by HP. The Management CD is shipped with all ProLiant servers and many different server options. In addition, you can obtain a subscription to the Management CD to have the latest available software delivered directly to you. For subscription information, refer to http://www.hp.com/servers/manage.

The JVM is located in the directory <cd>\INSIGHT7\JVM\ and is a single installable package. This version of the JVM is qualified for Insight Manager 7 and the Web-enabled management software installed on HP devices.

Additional Browser Requirements for Linux

It is recommended that you use Sun JRE 1.4.2 to ensure that the Version Control Agent help files display properly.

Ensure that the useragent does not begin with Mozilla/5 to avoid potential problems.

Plugin Locations

If you deployed a system-wide install of Sun JRE 1.4.2 as root, then the libjavaplugin_oji.so file can be retrieved at any of the following locations:

/usr/java/j2re1.4.2/plugin/i386/ns610/

/usr/java/j2re1.4.2/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/

Symbolic Linking

Java Plug-in needs to be registered with the browser. Create a symbolic link to the Java Plug-in libjavaplugin.so file in the Netscape or Mozilla Plugins directory.

This Java Plugin is needed for the help files to display properly. There are two different methods that can be used to establish a symbolic link:

Method 1

  1. Log in as root, and use the following command at a console, replacing [Mozilla Installation Directory] with the appropriate value for your installation (eg. /usr/local/mozilla):

ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so [Mozilla Installation Directory]/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so

  1. Create ~/.mozilla/plugins if it does not exist. Then use the following command at a console:

ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Method 2

The second method is preferred, since it bypasses the permissions issue completely, however it only installs the plugin for an individual user. You can also create the link using a GUI file manager.

If you are using a gcc3 build of Mozilla (such as Mozilla 1.4 or Netscape 7.1), use the plugin in the ns610-gcc32 directory, not the ns610 directory. To check which compiler was used to build Mozilla, see about:buildconfig (Mozilla 1.4a or later).
