The Version Control Agent installation process installs the necessary files and start services, which are registered for automatic execution on the next system initialization. A reboot is not necessary after the installation process.
Prior to the installation and execution of the Version Control Agent on a Linux system, it is necessary that the ucd-snmp package be installed on the current host. The versions must be a minimum of:
-ucd-snmp 4.2.5-7cmaX.75
The Version Control Agent for Linux requires the hpasm (version 7.0.0-13 or later) package to get the inventory software list since the software list is retrieved from the HP Foundation Agent (hpasm).
The Version Control Agent for Linux requires the Version Control Repository Manager version 2.0.1.30 or later from the Management CD.
The current Version Control Repository Manager is for Microsoft Windows, however the Version Control Repository Manager for Linux will be available in April 2004.
To install the Version Control Agent on a Linux system:
You must be logged in as root to perform the initial install, reinstall, or upgrade of the Version Control Agent.
For an initial install, enter the following command:
# rpm –ivh hpvca-<version>.i386.rpm
or
For a reinstall or upgrade, enter the following command:
# rpm –Uvh hpvca-,<version>.i386.rpm
If the Management HTTP Server Trust Mode has not been configured for any other management agent, then it must be configured. The following Management HTTP Server accounts are available:
Administrator…<enter the password for the administrator login for the Management HTTP Server>
Confirm Administrator…<re-enter the password for the administrator login exactly as you entered it for Administrator>
Operator…<enter the password for the operator login for the Management HTTP Server>
Confirm Operator…<re-enter the password for the operator login exactly as you entered it for Operator>
User…<enter the password for the user login for the Management HTTP Server>

The initial installation of the Version Control Agent allows you to configure the Version Control Repository Manager. The Version Control Repository Manager host address, login name and password may be specified.

The following trust mode configuration options are available:
1 - Trust All – If this option is selected, no further configuration is necessary because all servers are trusted. For example:
