Determining Firmware Version
----------------------------------
--To determine the version of the firmware that is installed on a switch,
log into the CLI and enter the show version EXEC command.

                           System Version Information
=============================================================================
     system-version: HP 24-Port 4x Fabric Copper Switch (374305-001) Release
     2.3.0hpiss
     contact: Local HP support representative
     name : HP

Upgrading from 2.2.0 to 2.3.0
-----------------------------
--Note that switch software and Linux host drivers are now released and
  packaged seperately.
--The 2.3.0 switch release supports 2.0.0 (or higher) Linux host drivers.
The 2.0.0 Linux host drivers require all switches to be upgraded to at
  least 2.0.0 first.
--2.2.0 and 2.3.0 switch releases can be used in the same IB fabric, although
IB subnet manager synchronization will not occur between 2.3.0 and earlier
  releases
--Topspin switches should be upgraded before the IB hosts.
--To upgrade Element Manager (EM) GUI, first uninstall 2.2.0 and then install
  2.3.0.
--For general information about upgrading to a new software release, see the
Install Software Images section of the HP 24-Port 4x Fabric Copper Switch
  Chassis Manager User Guide.

Major New Features
------------------

--TopspinOS v.2.3.0 is a major release that introduces significant new
features. It includes the following changes:
     --Enhanced fault handling
     --Improved CLI diagnostics card test
     --User-configurable IB multicast groups
     --Bug fixes

B. Infiniband Changes
---------------------

Issues noted with a '*' are either new features, or issues that have been
addressed in this release of the firmware.

*User-Configurable Multicast Groups
-----------------------------------
--Support for user-configurable IB multicast groups has been added.

*Performance Management Memory Leak
-----------------------------------
--A Performance Management (PM) memory leak has been fixed. This memory leak,
which occurred over time when monitoring was enabled or port counters
retrieved many times, could exhaust system memory and cause a chassis
  reboot.

*Management IB Interface
------------------------
--The management IB interface now supports using a non-default IB subnet
  prefix.

*Firmware Version Protection
----------------------------
--Firmware supporting Anafa2 revision 1A1 has been added. The CLI install
will check to ensure that an old software image will not get installed on
  Anafa2 revision 1A1.

*Standby Subnet Manager Shutdown No Longer Causes Subnet Manager Stall
----------------------------------------------------------------------
--A problem has been fixed where a synchronized standby Subnet Manager
shutting down could cause the master Subnet Manager to stall.

*Master And Standby Subnet Managers Should No Longer Get Out Of Sync
--------------------------------------------------------------------
--Several scenarios have been fixed where a master and standby Subnet Manager
  could get out of sync.

Unconnected IB Port May Report Errors
-------------------------------------
--In auto-negotiation mode, it is possible for an unconnected IB port to
report errors, if the port is part of a cluster of three ports, where at
least one of the other ports is connected

C. Management Changes
---------------------

*Diagnostics Self Test Will No Longer Deplete System Resources
--------------------------------------------------------------
--The diagnostics card self test command has been fixed to not run out of
system resources if it is repeatedly started and stopped without letting
  the command complete

*show diag post And show diag fru-error Display Correct Information
-------------------------------------------------------------------
--The show diag post and show diag fru-error commands now report descriptive
values for problems instead of integer error codes and correctly report
  fan FRU numbers.

*Additional Hardware Fault Handling
-----------------------------------
--Additional hardware fault handling support has been added, including
checking for ECC, I2C, and Summit.

*Ethernet Management Port MAC Address Errors Corrected
------------------------------------------------------
--Some Ethernet management ports were not programmed with a unique MAC
address. This is now detected and corrected.

*Power Supply Self Test Added
-----------------------------
--A power supply self test was added.

Diagnostic Interface IB Commands Not Supported
----------------------------------------------
--The diagnostic interface ib commands are not supported.

Diagnostic Tests During Initialization
--------------------------------------
--The diagnostic commands should not be run until all cards are up and
  running.

show diag fru-error Only Displays POST Errors
---------------------------------------------
--The show diag fru-error command only reports errors detected during POST.
Errors detected during runtime are not reported by this command.

Unplugged Fan May Not Appear In show diag post Or show diag fru-error Output
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--It is possible for POST to detect a fan that is not completely plugged in,
but the error does not show up in show diag post or show diag fru-error
output. The error is reported in the hwif_log.

Ethernet Management Port Only Supports 100BaseT Full-Duplex
-----------------------------------------------------------
--The Ethernet management port (interface mgmt-ethernet) only supports
  100BaseT full-duplex connectivity.

CLI Does Not Report Cause of Failed Firmware Upgrade
----------------------------------------------------
--If a firmware upgrade fails, the CLI does not report why the failure
occurred. The workaround is to use the "show logging end" command to review
  the failure.

Power Loss During Image Upgrade Can Cause Switch To Not Reboot Correctly
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
--If power is lost while the system image is being upgraded, the HP 24-Port
4x Fabric Copper Switch may not reboot correctly. The workaround is to put
the switch on a UPS while it is being upgraded.

Cryptic Environmental Error Messages In "Show Logging"
--------------------------------------------------------
--The error messages in "show logging" for environmental monitoring failures,
such as failed power supplies, are cryptic.

No CLI Diganostics Provided If NTP Server Is Not Responding
-------------------------------------------------------------
--The CLI does not provide any diagnostics if the NTP server(s) is not
  responding.

CLI "Reload" Command Prompts Unnecessarily
--------------------------------------------
--The CLI "reload" command will unnecessarily prompt if you wish to save
changes when you execute the CLI command "delete" or "clock set".

EM GUI Will Not Install With Insufficient Space In /tmp
----------------------------------------------------------
--The EM GUI will not install if there is not sufficient temporary space in
  /tmp.

Serial/Mgmt-Ethernet & Maintenance->System Info Windows May Not Appear In GUI
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--The "Serial/Mgmt-Ethernet" and "Maintenance->System Info" windows in the
GUI may not popup if the GUI has been running for a while.

ALT-TAB Icon On GUI Is Blank In Linux
----------------------------------------
--The ALT-TAB icon for the GUI is blank on Linux.
