Known Issues
_______________________________________________________________________

This readme identifies issues that can affect the use of PowerChute
Business Edition Agent with Red Hat(TM) Linux v7.1 and v7.2, and
offers solutions to these issues.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The product does not perform properly with an APC Back-UPS or an APC UPS
using Simple Signaling.

Solution:
PowerChute Business Edition requires the 940-0020B cable for UPS
communications using Simple Signaling. If you were using the 940-0023A
cable with a previous PowerChute product, you must replace it with the
940-0020B cable when you use PowerChute Business Edition.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You cannot log on to PowerChute Business Edition Agent; or your browser
exits unexpectedly.

Solution:
Use a Netscape 4.7x browser with PowerChute Business Edition Agent on
Linux. No other browser is supported.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You receive the following error when opening the PowerChute Business
Edition Agent logon page:
"Netscape: subprocess diagnostics (stdout/stderr)
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for default background."

Solution:
Run Netscape with the -install option. Netscape needs many colors from the
common colormap in order to display pages correctly. Normally there
are not enough colors in a machine's colormap to allow Netscape to run
as normal, so the -install option gives Netscape its own private colormap.

The color flashing in the other non-active windows is simply a side effect
that can be ignored.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
PowerChute Business Edition does not install on a system which is using
the SJIS locale.

Solution:
The SJIS locale, available on some Red Hat Linux 7.2 systems, is not
supported by PowerChute Business Edition. The only Japanese locale
supported by PowerChute is eucJ.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
SNMP Communication cannot be configured.

Solution:
SNMP communication is not available on PowerChute Business Edition
Agent for Red Hat Linux.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
RPM Install and Uninstall syntax:
To install the PowerChute Agent, run the following command:
         rpm -ivh pbeagent-6.1.0-1.i386.rpm

To uninstall the PowerChute Agent, run the following command from the
command terminal:
         rpm -e pbeagent
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
RPM Install Only: The error "Package pbeagent is already installed"
displays while attempting to install the RPM version of the PowerChute
Business Edition Agent. This error occurs if a previous RPM installation
of PowerChute Business Edition Agent did not complete successfully.

Solution:
This can be resolved using one of two methods:
a) Launch the install by running ./pbe_agent_redhat_jvm.bin from the
/opt/APC/PowerChute Business Edition/Agent directory.
OR
b) Remove the RPM package by typing rpm -e pbeagent and then run the
PowerChute Business Edition Agent RPM install again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
PowerChute Business Edition Agents running on RedHat Linux may not be able
to send broadcast messages to Windows systems. If you are using
Japanese-language systems, messages sent from Linux to Windows may not be
readable.

Solution:
These problems are the result of incompatibilities between Windows and
Linux, and cannot be resolved through PowerChute.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If you remove PowerChute Business Edition from your system, some folders
may remain on your system.

Solution:
Delete the /opt/APC folder and its contents.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Issue:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
When the PowerChute Business Edition daemon is stopped, the "Monitoring
Stopped" event is not recorded in the PowerChute Business Edition event
log.

Solution:
This is a known issue which will be corrected in a future release of
PowerChute.
