3. Known Issues and Solutions
=============================
Intel Integrator Assistant has the following known issues:

 - Startup Time When Internet Not Available -- If your target system has
never previously connected to the Internet and the available Internet
connection is improperly set up, then Intel Integrator Assistant startup
time might take 3 to 6 minutes.

Solutions: Verify that your Internet has a valid working connection before
launching Intel Integrator Assistant. If you accidently start
Intel Integrator Assistant on a non-functional Internet
connection, then disconnect the Internet cable from the target
computer to achieve a faster launch of Intel Integrator Assistant.
Note that any BIOS downloads will still need an operational
              Internet connection.

 - Intel Desktop Board DG945GCLF2 -- For this board, you MUST do the
following to prevent possible flashing issues while using Intel
Integrator Assistant with any BIOS prior to version LF94510J.86A.0171:

   Solution: Perform the following steps:
             (1) - Exit the Intel Integrator Assistant program.
             (2) - Download a BIOS update (LF94510J.86A.0171) or newer.
             (3) - Then MANUALLY install the BIOS update without
                   using the Integrator Assistant program.
             (4) - If needed, repeat these steps for EACH board that
                   needs a BIOS update.

 - Older BIOS -- Older Intel Desktop Board BIOS versions might not
allow Intel Integrator Assistant to accurately display all of the
   BIOS settings.

Solution: If you see the "Newer BIOS available for download" message,
use Intel Integrator Assistant to get the BIOS update.

NOTE: One exception exists: If you have Intel Desktop
Board DG945GCLF2 and the BIOS version is earlier
than LF94510J.86A.0171, You MUST exit Intel
Integrator Assistant to download and then MANUALLY
install a newer BIOS. Refer to the 4-step procedure
under the previous issue: Intel Desktop Board DG945GCLF2

 - Support -- How do I tell if my Intel Desktop Board is supported by
the Intel Integrator Assistant software tool?

Solution: For the most current information on board support, go to the
             Intel website below:
                  http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/software/iia
If supported, remember to download the newest BIOS for your
             board.

 - Universal Disk Format -- The help file for English or other languages
might not show any contents if it runs from a CD that was formatted
using the Universal Disk Format (UDF).

Solution: For more information, refer to the Microsoft article
             (Q321640) on the following site:
             http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321640

 - Branding Logo Pixel Loss or Cropping -- Some branding logo images might
appear with missing pixels or with part of the image chopped off after
a successful load into a computer with the Microsoft* Windows* Vista*
operating system and the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. Note
that a white background for a logo image is recommended, since these
operating systems might convert any other background color to white.
This conversion might result in missing image pixels and possible
   cropping of the logo.

 - An Update for the OEM Branding Logo Image is Blocked -- Be aware that
if a previous OEM Logo file exists ([SystemDir]\OEMLogo.bmp) and is
set to read-only permission, and you attempt to update this previous
OEM Logo image, then an error message ("Unable to apply settings") will
appear when the Apply All Changes button is clicked.

Note that the Branding Logo is always installed to [SystemDir] and
renamed "OEMLogo.bmp". For example, the path in a Windows XP* based
   system is: C:\Windows\System32\OEMLogo.bmp

Solution: Use the following workaround to update the "OEM Logo" image to
             the Windows System directory.

             1. Select the currently installed logo file (OEMLogo.bmp) and
make sure this file does NOT have 'Read-Only' permissions.
If needed, change the file permissions to both 'Read' and
                'Write'.

             2. Run Intel Integrator Assistant again and go to the Customized
Branding screen to update the current Branding Logo with a
new 120x100 pixel-sized logo using either a new JPG or BMP
                image file.

             3. Then click Apply All Changes to install the new Branding
Logo on the target system. Note that the Windows Branding
feature will perform the needed file name and file type
conversion when placing the new Branding Logo file into
                [SystemDir]\OEMLogo.bmp.

 - Allow Power-On Through LAN -- If your target computer includes Intel(R)
Active Management Technology, two settings must always be kept "Enabled"
   and "Locked". These include:

-- Onboard LAN (See: Device Management Settings / Enabled Devices)
-- Allow Power-On Through LAN (See: Power Settings)

If you disable and or unlock any of the above settings, the BIOS
automatically changes the setting(s) back to an "Enabled" and "Locked"
status during BIOS reboot to prevent disabling of Intel(R) Active
Management Technology. This is a normal protective function performed
   by the board's BIOS.

Solutions: There will be no problem since the BIOS performs corrections
              automatically through the reboot cycle.

 - Floppy Settings -- Some BIOS for Intel Desktop Boards might allow you
to enable the following settings with Intel Integrator Assistant even
when a floppy drive does not exist on the target system:

     -- Floppy Drives
     -- Floppy Write Protect

Solutions: No workaround exists. You will see this issue if your
system does not have a floppy controller.

 - Setting Boot Order with a Combination of Intel Integrator Assistant
and F2 BIOS Setup Methods -- This issue results when BIOS settings are
changed using multiple methods and information is lost. For example:

1 - The Boot Order setting was hidden with Intel Integrator Assistant.
2 - Then F2 BIOS Setup was used to disable any of the Boot Order devices
(Removable Devices, Optical Devices, and/or Network).
3 - And finally, Intel Integrator Assistant was used to view Bootable
Devices. This resultant view only shows the Hard Disk Drive.

Solutions: Be consistent and do not mix using Intel Integrator
Assistant and F2 BIOS Setup until all target system
changes are completed. Also use the latest BIOS to
              possibly prevent this issue.

Also note: If the system's boot type in BIOS is set for
Advanced mode, an additional message and a Normal Mode
checkbox will appear on the Intel Integrator Assistant screen.
If desired, check this box to switch the system's boot type
from Advanced mode to Normal mode. Also remember that
switching back to Normal mode may change the boot behavior
of your system. Once you change from Advanced mode to Normal
mode and then click the Apply All Changes button, you will
not see an option to return to Advanced mode while using
              Intel Integrator Assistant

 - Possible Log Entries Left on Target Computer -- Multiple log entries
generated by running Intel Integrator Assistant might be left on
target computers that run the Microsoft Vista operating system.
To check for this situation, use the following procedure:

1 - Double-click on the Microsoft* Windows* Defender* icon
(usually on right side of task bar at bottom of screen).
2 - Click on the "History" selection near the top of the screen.
3 - View the "Program and Actions" to find any log entries.
Note that it may be included under "Unclassified Software"
4 - To remove all log entries, click on the "Clear History" button.

Solutions: Use step-4 above to remove any entries in the log.

 - Waking from Sleep State -- If a BIOS flash update is requested on a
computer (with a Microsoft Vista operating system) just after it wakes
up from a sleep state, the system will not flash the BIOS, but instead
   turn the computer off.

Solutions: Do not try to flash BIOS on a Microsoft Vista system that
has just resumed from a sleep state.

 - BIOS Splash Images -- Before installing BIOS splash images, Intel
Integrator Assistant will validate the images size, resolution, dimensions
and file type. Since available space for splash images varies by BIOS
and board, images that work on one board/BIOS combination might not work
on a different board/BIOS. Also, images that meet the requirements for
resolution and color depth might still exceed available space on a
particular board and BIOS. If your image does not fit, try reducing the
size of the image (in bytes) and try again. For example:

-- JPG files 1024x768 or smaller are supported for Intel(R) Desktop
Boards. The display resolutions are limited to 1024x768, 800x600 and
640x480. For past Intel(R) Mobile Boards, the largest display resolution
is 1280x800. Note that progressive JPG files are not supported.

-- BMP file resolution is limited to 800x600. Only .BMP files with 8 or
24 bits per pixel are supported (1, 4, 16, and 32 bits per pixel are
        not supported).

-- If you try using one format of graphics file and it fails to load,
try using the other format type. Also, a file that is too large
might prevent the graphics file from loading.

 - Truncated Splash Image During Preview -- A previewed splash image may appear
truncated when the size of the splash image's resolution is bigger than
   the desktop resolution.

Solutions: No fix is available at this time.

 - Token Settings -- First remember that Intel Integrator Assistant only
displays a subset of some BIOS settings. Therefore, if you manually change
a setting with F2 BIOS Setup and later use Intel Integrator Assistant to
Restore to Factory Defaults, you might restore a previously manually
modified setting back to Factory Defaults.

This will only happen if you first use F2 BIOS Setup to change a setting, and
then return to Intel Integrator Assistant and also change the setting. Intel
Integrator Assistant will then see the setting as an OEM (Optimized) Default
   setting.

Solutions: Be aware of any changed settings using methods other than with
              Intel Integrator Assistant software.

 - Non-English Version of Help and the QuickStart Guide are not fully current --
Be aware that only the English version of Help (iAssist_409.chm) and the
English version of the QuickStart Guide (QckStart_409.htm) are fully up-to-date.
We hope to fix this during the next major update release.
