Only bad news I suspect :-(

Although I can't answer definitively for the PCMCIA nic I do know that
Netgear don't support OS/2 NDIS drivers for their other cards (errr
perhaps I should qualify that - with F310TX at least). You won't find
one (unless someone has written it and is keeping stummm<g>).

That said - the esteemed Timothy Stipples did point out that one could
use their(Netgear not IBM specifically) supplied ODI drivers with
Netware install, add the NDIS/ODI shims(that affectively allow a NDIS
aware application to talk to a lower ODI link/mac layer) and backout the
unwanted Netware client bits... to thus ultimately use F&P
netbios...etc.
Havn't tried this myself on Netgear specifically (but no reason to
suspect it doesn't work as I've played with this on other non-Netgear
nic's but recall some probs in using Netware or IBM Netbios depending
what other protocol stacks are loaded) as original client I was trying
to resolve this for appears to have lost interest and/or returned
Netgear for more versatile/cross platform supported alternatives....

However always assuming that OS/2 ODI drivers are available for this
PCMCIA model I suspect that this option is your only one (assuming that
preferred alternative of replacing the card is not feasible).

If its worse on Friday afternoons, find out how many people are playing on
the internet/games on your network.

Or get an anliser, (not sure whats out there for Ethernet) we use Linkview
pro at work on a token ring LAN, that is very good.

Subj: Deaf ISP NT Server...

From: mcbrides@erols.com (Jerry McBride)

I'm switching ISP's and guess what? The new ISP is an NT shop and I'm not able
to establish a 100% connection.

The scenario goes; the modems connect, the session is negotiated, I'm assigned
an IP address and Gateway address and then... nothing. I can ping the IP
address
connection, but pinging the Gateway shows 100% packet loss. Naturally,
Netscape
can't find the DNS... The new ISP tech force is totally lost and I'm up a
creek
without a answer to my problems. The techs at the new ISP can see me ping them
and can even ping me... but I never see an incomming packet once the session
is
negotiated. Outgoing packets are sent just fine, it's just nothing comes back.

Anyone have an idea what needs to be toggled at the NT server end? Oh yeah, if
I install win on a boxc, I can connect just fine... However, warp 3.0 and warp
4.0 both fail to connect with either Injoy or DOIP...

Anyone have an idea?

The target ISP is www.snip.net and claims it never had an OS/2 customer...
Gee... I wonder why? ;')

I don't know. Maybe it was created and then got deleted. From what I have seen
in some of the install scripts, there are a whole load of objects that get
moved, so maybe something got lost somehow in a move. Just guessing really....

Hi Sergi,
Sorry it took me so long to see this (I've been in Mallorca..)

anyway, there are a number of things that MIGHT be wrong..

you might wanna TRY these things one at a time:

In InJoy, on the Comm Setup page, make sure the "Modem initstring #1"
and "Modem initstring #2" are EXACTLY the SAME as that which is being
used by the IBM dialer (since that one works)..

In InJoy, also on the Comm Setup page, set your "Port speed" to 57600,
or less..

In InJoy, make VERY VERY sure that both your User "ID" and "Password"
are precisely the way your ISP wants them (like "Pass" and "pasS" may
not be the same thing to them)..

Do ALL of the above before trying the below:

Are you using a script? If so, turn it off . . . about 99.99% of the
ISPs today use either CHAP or PAP instead of a script..

On the PPP Options page, try clicking on "Default" and try that..

If that doesn't help, click on "Make Slow" and try that..

Maybe your ISP is using an NT PPP server, so try (also on the PPP
Options page): click again on "Make Slow and then turn off PAP and
turn on "Allow CHAP Authentication" and "Allow MS-CHAP
Authentication"..... ("on" means that there should be an X in the [ ]
)

by now you should have a working setup..

if so, be sure and turn off unneeded trace/logging (it REALLY slows
things down) to get there from InJoys opening/operating face, click on
[Misc. opt] then on [Trace configuration] then put an X in ONLY these
blocks "Trace ON/OFF", "Important info", "Trace errors", and "InJoy
output window".

if not:

1. Join and post to the FREE InJoy mail list:
Subscribe at http://www.fx.dk/contadd.html

2. If the mailing list does not give you the help you need, e-mail the
InJoy Support Center at: support@fx-usa.com

3. In InJoy, set up a new host that can use the ibm.net (its pretty
easy if you follow the guide in the faq.txt file that comes with
InJoy)...this will give you confidence that InJoy WILL work for you
once you get the stuff set up right...(I KNOW for sure that one can
connect to either Palma de Mallorca or Barcelona with a proper setup
Warp + InJoy + SIO) [and, I should mention that Mallorca is WONDERFUL,
but TOO many tourist for my taste.. ;-) ]

good luck...

caveat: Hey, I'm no guru . . . if you fry your modem trying to follow
my tips I am sorry, but not responsible . .

Subj: Y2K bug with TCP/IP stacks and OS/2 ?

From: "Sergio Mainetti Jr." <mainetti@visionnaire.com.br>

  Hello.
I'm working in a project to look for Y2K problems in an OS/2
TCP/IP stack.

I'm working with OS/2 version 3.0 and up and using the TCP/IP
stack from Netmanage's PC/TCP (formerly FTP Software's PC/TCP).

Does anyone know, or have had, any problems with dates with this
environment ?

  Best regards,

When I try to network copy a file to NT disks I get this error:

It happens to both FAT and NTFS formatted partitions and *only* with files
that *don't* have any EAs, no matter if it is short(8.3) or long named. Go

Am I missing something? Please help!

From: "gjohn" <gjohn@csom.umn.edu>

I have a 2 machine LAN with an Apple Laserwriter Pro 600 on the Warp4
machine, and I am able to write to it from a W98 machine. I defined the
laserwriter as a shared resource. Just one bit of funkiness... I recall
that the name in some of the dialog boxes used to be AppleLase and I
couldn't write to it. However, I changed it to a shorter name, Laserwri,
and it started working. Perhaps its just voodoo, or perhaps it just doesn't
like a name >8 characters.

Subj: 2 machine LAN quits if I open DOS box

From: "gjohn" <gjohn@csom.umn.edu>

I have a warp4 machine linked to a W98 machine with only netbios (and
tcpbuei) and tcpip. No netware. Everything works well, until I open a DOS
or WINOS2 window on the warp4 machine and try to get to a directory on the
W98 machine. The network goes down. Each machine is fine, but they cannot
see or respond to each other. I have to cold start both of them. Oddly,
the W98 machine can always access the warp4's drives just fine, and OS/2
apps can do the same with the W98's drives.

Any ideas?

I have fp11 installed. I should add that at one time everything used to work
fine. I removed netware and all my trouble started. I cannot even
reinstall or configure mtpn anymore, because it complains about locked files
and asks me to reboot and try again. Of course, that changes nothing. I am
convinced that something in the os/2 networking side has been screwed up
royally, but how do I "unlock" it?

Cheers

[C:\]help 234

SYS0234: More data is available.

EXPLANATION: A read operation on a pipe has read the requested amount,
but the pipe contains more data to be read.

ACTION: Contact the supplier of the application.

[C:\]help net3513

NET3513: More data is available than can be returned.

Cause: LAN Server was unable to display all available data.

Action: The action required depends on the command that
returned the error. See your network administrator.

Seems like you have an application/network/client connect problem.

No: IBM screwed up on the design of Peer, and had only a 4kB buffer. A
fix was issued (in IP08401) which repeated the operation with a 64kB
buffer if it failed like this). That fixpack is no longer available, and
later fixpacks do NOT incoporate the fix.

A well-known problem, sadly :-(

You need to have applied fixpack IP08401 for the Peer component to
address APAR IC15893.

Unfortunately, that fix pack is no longer available. Fixpacks IP08402,
IP08406, and IP08412 are all on the FTP server: strange as it may seem,
they do not include the fix for that APAR.

See another thread about this in c.o.o.n.tcpip

> IBM OS/2 LAN Requester: IP08410

> I hope someone can help me

SFAICS, IBM have goofed over the fixpacks for Peer; unlike all others,
they appear (at least from their descriptions on the APAR databse) NOT to
include cumulative fixes from previous fixpacks (whereas Warp and other
components always work on the premise that the latest fixpack contains
all earlier fixes too).

If anyone here has the ear of IBM (eg through a service contract), could
you please ask them to verify that they fucked up over this?

I'm about to get an NIC for my Warp 3 machine. I'm heading toward the

they had OS/2 drivers (I haven't found any other cards that fit both of
those).

Anyway, I saw a post about this card having trouble in an OS/2 machine
with a wake-up motherboad, but otherwise, I guess it works for OS/2
users? Tell me now if I'm about to do something dumb by buying this
card for an OS/2 Warp 3 machine (Aptiva).

Subj: Peer from Warp 4 on Warp 3?

From: sengsational@my-deja.com

I've got a Warp 3 system that I've been networking with another OS/2
machine (token ring) for years using Sam Detweiler's SRVDYNAM /
SRVIFS. Now I have two new ethernet machines, so I'm going to pull the
TR cards and replace them with ethernet NIC's.

Can I get some sort of peer network going between OS/2 and W98 given
the following:

Warp 3 (non connect)
MPTS from the warp connect disks (two diskettes)
Warp 4 install CD

I tried just upgrading my Warp 3 to Warp 4, but the machine just hangs
during one of the boots (I restored from tape). And I'd rather not do
major surgery to this old workhorse.

Or should I just be satisfied with FTP? Or is there another cheap easy
to configure way to mount OS/2 drives on W98?

Subj: Re: Dlink DFE-530TX+ NIC

From: dsrocha@ibm.net (Domingos dos Santos Rocha)

I think you'll have no trouble with the DFE530; here we have some ws with
it, performing seamless in a mixed NW and NT servers network (MS NWLink
and MS TCP (both with NETBIOS), NW IPX and NW TCP). We don't use hubs and
all ws are connected through 3Com switches (may behave different on hubs).

My Warp4 "station" have two Intel EtherExpress 10/100B for two years; I
can assure that these boards are "made for OS/2" without a second though!
I've experimented them, or had to use them once or while, in *many*
different configurations (protocols and client softwares) and many
different connections (switches, hubs, servers, etc) and they never
refused to work. Of course I don't have any of these APM stuff enabled in
my main board; if you plan to use any of them, ...think twice!

I'm not connected to Intel in any way, just a satisfied user of this model
of their NICs. ;)

Hope it helps.

You get the same error, if at least one of the returned share names is longer
than
12 characters. This share name is not displayed on OS/2 but the same
restriction seems to be in Win95:
Error 234: Additional data is available...
On WinNT all shares are visible! Looks like another Microsoft SMB extension.

Subj: network startdisk

From: thotti@muenster.de

Hi,

I am looking for informations how to create a single bootdisk for
network access. my problem is not to implement the network environment,
but to create a single boot-disk.
I need a disk supporting the following:

- harddisk-access (no hpfs needed, but new ibm1s506)
- format.com
- utility to erase partitions (delpart for OS/2 ?)
- space for at least 200 kb for networking files

I know how to make a disk bootable as well as I
I know that i can compress system files with lxlite and i know bootos2,
but that doesnt work for me because i have only a running OS/2 V4.5
(WSeB), which doesnt work correctly with bootos2, because of LVM.
so, which files do i need at least to start a mini-os/2 uncompressing
from eg 2.11 or Warp3 ?

Thanks in advance !

Ps: maybe you can send answers via email as well, i dont know if i am

Subj: OS2 upgrade

From: "Gnaea" <gabe@ivms.com>

Has anyone ever upgraded warp3 to warp 4? I am trying to do so, but am
having problems. I am currently running warp 3 with HPFS and when I try to
upgrade Warp 4 does not recognize the partition and wants to reformat the
drive. If you have any insight on the matter pls let me know. Thanks.
