Subj: FREEWARE: new versions: OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive Software

From: C.Langanke@_n.o-s.p.a.m_teamos2.de (Christian Langanke)

The OS/2 Netlabs in association with Team OS/2 Deutschland e.V.
(Team OS/2 Germany) proudly present new versions of the
Netlabs Open Source Archive (NOSA) software:

OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive Client - V1.05
OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive Administrator - V1.07

The OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive hosts such exiting projects as
- Odin - lets Win32 bit apps run under OS/2
  -> see http://www.netlabs.org/odin
- Everblue - ports the X Window API to OS/2 Presentation Manager
  -> see http://www.netlabs.org/everblue

See the NOSA homepage on OS/2 Netlabs at

->  http://www.netlabs.org/nosa

This site also contains the presentations about the
NOSA Client from Warpstock Europe 1999 in english and german !

----------------------------------------------------------------

What it is all about in general:

Are you an OS/2 developer or want to be one ? Do you search for
sample sourcecode or do you have a really good idea for an OS/2
program ? Would you like to have a look at the source code of
some of the best OS/2 apps or utilities around ?

Then come to the OS/2 Netlabs and see, what OS/2 projects are
currently hosted here. The OS/2 Netlabs hosts source archives
for several projects in the OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive,
which can be freely accessed.

More, the presentations about the NOSA Client from
Warpstock Europe 1999 give you an overview to the Concurrent
Versions System (CVS) (which is the versioning tool being used
to access the OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive), how software
archives work in general, and how they help to work in a team
of an internet project.

These presentations are available in english and german.

----------------------------------------------------------------

What each package is for:

The OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive Client package produced by
Team OS/2 Germany helps you to easily access the
OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive (NOSA) hosted by OS/2 Netlabs.
It will both help you with the installation and usage of the
Concurrent Versions System (CVS), on which the NOSA bases on,
and does not force you to learn dozen of commands with parameters
for usage on the command line before being able to see the source
of exiting OS/2 internet projects.

The OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archive Administrator contains all
required procedures, that the OS/2 Netlabs maintainer uses to
set up the OS/2 Netlabs Open Source Archives. This includes
for example creating a new archive, importing existing sources
out of a zip file, implementing security for archives,
setting up the TCP/IP configuration and especially the CVS services,
creating a changelog of the changes being committed to the archive
and much more.

Subj: Odin Public Alpha 5 Released

From: Sander_van_Leeuwen@xs4all.nl (Sander van Leeuwen)

The Odin development team is proud to announce the availability of the
Public Alpha 5 release (19991116). A lot has happened since the last
public release in April 1998 so we encourage everyone interested in
running the latest 32bit Windows applications on OS/2 to download this
alpha release and check it out.

Note that this is still an alpha version meaning that it will most
likely not be able to run your software or only partially run it but
still it can be really useful!

Download the latest alpha from

  ftp://ftp.os2.org/odin/OdinAlpha5.zip

You can find more information on the official Odin website at

  http://www.netlabs.org/odin

This page is currently being updated and there will be an application
compatibility database very soon where you can report your
experiences.

NOTE: We are still looking for talented developers to join this great
open source freeware project! We know that we will make it possible to
run virtually any Win32 program under OS/2 but the more developers we
have, the sooner we will reach this goal!

Subj: MAME for OS/2 .36 beta 9.1 is available

From: Marty <mamodeo@stny.rr.com>

MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator.

It allows you to play up to 1858 classic, and some not-so-classic arcade games
(from the 70's through the 90's) from the comfort of your OS/2 desktop.

The OS/2 version has been updated to the latest version of the MAME core (.36
beta 9.1). If you are upgrading from beta 6 or higher, it will automatically
update your Quick List and scan for newly supported games the first time you
start it up so you don't have to manually rescan everything from scratch and
erase your Favorites list.

Please know that I am still working on speedups, although this release mainly
updates the MAME core. I should have a new version of GPMixer (the audio
library used by MAME for OS/2) available soon which should improve the speed
of
games with sound considerably.

Enjoy!

- Marty
