7 megs!

The BM costs 1 zylinder. That is on a 8 GB drive a space of 7 MB.

You could use Partition Magic to shrink the current partition by however many
megs corresponds to a single cylinder -- and then move it to the end of the
disk. THe free space at the start of the drive can then be partitioned and BM
installed. The comment about a single cylinder comes from the translation
used. The BIOS in one computer here reports the first hard drive in one
computer as having a drive geometry of 1022 cylinders, 255 heads, 63 sectors
per track giving a logical cylinder of ~8 megs.

       David

Are you going to Warpstock '99?
Want to get some free Software?

I am working on a project to get some smaller ISV's and
shareware author's applications demonstrated in Atlanta.
This project is for for ISVs and authors who will not be
able to attend the show in person.

I need more people who are willing to donate a few hours of
their time to demonstrate the applications during the show.
I am aiming for 4 or 5 people per booth so no one has to
miss the presentations they want to see. Up to 4 ISVs will
be represented at each booth.

The demonstrators will each receive a fully licensed copy
of the applications they demonstrate.

So, if you are going to Atlanta ( if not, why not? ), and
want to trade a few hours of time for some very nifty
applications, please contact me at stevic@ibm.net.

This project is not an official Warpstock, Inc. or Team
Atlanta project. Everyone is is still encouraged to
volunteer and participate in the show as an official
volunteer by signing up at http://www.warpstock.org. You
can get a really cool shirt, that can't be purchased
anywhere, and help to make this year bigger and better than
ever.

Yes, you can do both.

Tom Stevic.

P.S.
Any small ISVs and shareware authors who can not attend the
show, and have not yet been contacted about the project,
who wish to have their applications demonstrated and sold,
please contact me at stevic@ibm.net

Seems scarey to me too. Make sure you have a backup before
   playing.

Seen a lot of these things come and go, System Commander seems to
be the only one that has ever seriously challenged IBM's
   BootManager.

Personally, I've never even heard of MasterBooter.

Serenity Systems International has announced an agreement
with the Warped Code Cellar, publisher of HOUSE/2, Entity
Systems Ltd of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Hauppauge Computer
Works, to develop a new OS/2 product for use in businesses.

The new product will use technologies from HOUSE/2 to
control electric appliances, including climate control and
motion sensors, using X10 controllers. Entity is developing
security camera monitoring software, which will detect
movement in the camera view and allow users or monitoring
agencies to view camera feeds over the network, dailing in,
or over the Internet. This software will be supported by
Hauppauge video equipment.

Serenity Systems will market this software as part of the
Managed Client network. The first release will be targeted
at consultants supporting small businesses. Future releases
will scale up, supporting larger facilities with a
distributed building automation implementation.

More information is available on the Serenity Systems web
site, http://www.serenity-systems.com, in the Managed
Client Product Catalog. The application will be previewed
at Warp Expo West and general availability is planned for
Warpstock.

The application will be made available to qualified
consultants participating in the WiseManager Evaluation
Program. To inquire contact Bob St.John, 888 299-6483, ext
101, outside the US, 972 966-8072, ext 101, or email at

Every Monday, I'll be reporting on OS/2-related items for sale on
http://www.ebay.com and the comp.os.os2.marketplace newsgroup. Even if
you're not thinking about buying anything OS/2 related, you might find
something that catches your interest.

I've given up reporting on Yahoo! Auctions. The only thing ever offered
that's OS/2-related are various older versions of OS/2. If that every
changes, I'll mention it. But until then, I don't think anyone should waste
their time with Yahoo! Auctions.

On eBay, there are several copies of OS/2 2.x, Warp 3, Warp 4, and Lotus
applications available for sale. There are also a number of OS/2 books
available. One item of note is OS/2 2.0 LA - released in 1991, whereas the
standard 2.0 was released in 1992. A collector's item, for sure.

In the software category, we have: FaxWorks Pro LAN, DeScribe 5, Excel 3.0,
Drive Image 2.0, Comm Manager/2 1.11, Object Desktop 1.5, PKZIP, Nova Back,
and Sim City.

For programmers, we have MSC 5.1 (great for driver programmers), more
Borland C++ books, DB2/2, and Borland C++ 1.0 for OS/2.

On comp.os.os2.marketplace, we have: various versions of OS/2 and one person
who is selling a bunch of OS/2 software (12 items), 2 books, one CD, and a
couple of DOS games for $100.

Those of you looking to sell your OS/2 related stuff, I strongly recommend
you put it on eBay and post an announcement on comp.os.os2.marketplace. If
you include the word "OS/2" in the title of your description, I'll see it
and include it in the next report.

If you're looking for OS/2 items on eBay, search on the phrase ("OS/2",OS2),
including the parentheses.

Having no time for being funny right now ;-) I'll just want to tell you
in the plain boring way that Gotcha!, the wellknown screencapture
program for OS/2 has just gotten a new release, v1.65

New features:

* Brazilian Portuguese language support (many thanks to Erico Mendonca!)
* German Language support (program only due to my own lazyness ;-)
* A new option, allowing to run Gotcha! at idle priority.
* The position of the main window will be saved automatically now.
* The snapshot window got a nice context menu.
* Fixed a bug that disabled capturing a screen region with the snapshot
  window.

For more info and download, visit either the homepage
     http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/CIP/thielen/gotcha/
or get it from Hobbes

___________________________________________________________

Esther Schindler, Peter Coffee, Alan Zeichick
To Speak At Warp Expo West !!

Three of the most insightful OS/2 minds on the continent
are scheduled speakers at Warp Expo West, and every OS/2
user should attend for this one event alone.

These three OS/2 experts and industry journalists will be
onstage together, speaking their minds, taking questions,
hosting a roundtable discussion of IBM's new strength and
growing presence on the corporate desktop -- a presence
based on new IBM products centered around OS/2.

"IBM: The New Strategy To Control The Worldwide Desktop"
will combine the collective knowledge of these three
industry stars:

Esther Schindler -- currently Technology Editor at Sm@rt
Reseller, the major channel newsweekly from Ziff-Davis.
Previously Senior Contributing Editor at OS/2 Magazine.
Writer of OS/2 product reviews for PC Magazine,
Computerworld, Computer Shopper and other publications.
Author of ten computer books. Program Chair for the
Phoenix OS/2 Society (POSSI), the world's largest OS/2 user
group.

Peter Coffee -- Technology Editor, columnist and internal
consultant at industry giant PC Week. Full-time OS/2 user
for many years. First recipient of OS/2 Professional
magazine's annual Media Excellence award. Author of the
books How To Program Java and Peter Coffee Teaches PCs.
Author of numerous technical critiques of competing
operating systems, technical analyses and product reviews.
PC Week's first Director of Corporate Labs. Formed PC
Week's Corporate Partner advisory panel and serves there as
technical liaison. Regularly featured speaker at industry
trade shows and technical conferences. Appears frequently
on ZDTV programs.

Alan Zeichick -- launched OS/2 Magazine (it was his idea)
at Miller Freeman in mid-1993 and was Editor-In-Chief until
early 1997. Speaker at many trade shows including Spring
Comdex, Fall Comdex, PC Expo, The OS/2 World Conference and
Exhibition, and the IBM Technical Interchange. Conference
Chairman of The OS/2 World Conference and Exhibition in
1994 and 1995. Designed test laboratories for
International Data Group (IDG). Writer of more than 575
published articles. Currently President of Camden
Associates.

You _will_ learn the future thinking of these OS/2
luminaries when you attend Warp Expo West!

                           - - -

Warp Expo West will be held on September 18 near
Disneyland in sunny Southern California. All the info is

Hi,

mSQL 2.0.11 build 1 for OS/2 is now ready for download. My homepage has
moved, the new address is

	http://www.quasarbbs.com/yuri

As usual, look in the software pages.

mSQL is a light weight relational database management system. It is
available on many platforms, OS/2 included.

News:
	- new: lite libraries can be loaded from $DOCUMENT_ROOT.
	- fixed: databases can be dropped also when in use.
	- fixed: table aliases now works, thanks to Maurilio Longo for
an
		improved mmap emulator.

Known bugs:
	- temporary files are left in .tmp;

Bye,

	Yuri Dario

Apparently, there are no working drivers for
OS/2 Warp for the Orb Drives at this time.
According to Engineers at Castlewood
Systems, they cite problems with getting the
drive to work without locking up using the
IBM IDE Drivers that successfully work with
Zip, Syquest and other removable media. The
only method they can get it to work is by
using the drive as fixed, non-removable
media. Release on the drivers is currently
suspended until they can find a solution to
the problem. They currently have a call or
email in to Sam Detweiller in the hopes of
finding assistance to solve their issues.

***NOTE: Though the boxes and the website
claim OS/2 Support, at this time, they are
incorrect. Not even beta drivers are
available for download at this time.

If anyone has tried an internal IDE drive
using IBM's newer ATAPI drivers, or used the
MAC SCSI drive with Warp and found success,
I am sure that the team at Castlewood would
be greatful to hear from you... their
website is http://www.castlewoodsystems.com/

Serenity Systems International, with its development
partner, TouchVoice Incorporated, is announcing WiseAlert
Server. This product surpasses other alert servers in
functionality and messaging capabilities. It is targeted at
mission critical application ISVs and users, as well as
consultants and service providers supporting mission
critical applications.

WiseAlert Server monitors mission critical applications,
systems, and components running in a TCP/IP environment,
including Windows, OS/2, Linux, Unix, AS/400, RS/6000 -AIX,
and MVS. When a failure is reported, a text message and
action code are sent to the user, and possible corrective
actions can be taken. WiseAlert can accept error messages
and can query systems to determine if the system is
operating properly. When failures are reported, WiseAlert
can spring into action by contacting authorized personnel
and even executing corrective actions.

These messages can be network messages, e.mail, fax
including broadcast fax capability, calling designated
parties, providing voice prompts and accepting responses
for execution. For example, WiseAlert can call a user and
request a PIN. On receiving the correct PIN, WiseAlert can
use voice prompts to inform the user of the error condition
and can provide possible corrective actions. For example,
"... is reporting a SYS3175 access violation. Press 1 to
reboot this system, press 2 to set off the systems audio
alarm", or blinking lights, or some indicator of which
machine is failing, and so forth.

WiseAlert Server may be provided completely as a service,
or sold as product with appropriate installation and
customization services. For more information, contact
Serenity Systems as Info@Serenity-Systems.com, or call Bob
St.John at 972 966-8072, ext 101, in US call 888 299-6483,
ext 101.

It's amazing what you can find out by doing a search for
"OS/2" on www.prnewswire.com.

Command Software Systems has an OS/2 version of their anti-
virus software. I don't know how good it is, but you learn
more about it and download a demo from
http://www.commandcom.com/html/products/os2.html

One tidbit that suprised me is that CSS now owns the GEAR
CD-R recording software that _used to_ be available for
OS/2.

Maybe I'm imagining things, but it appears that Netfinity
5.2 for OS/2 is available for a free download. At least,
parts of it are.

To see what's available, first go to
http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/netfinity/, then click on "Support"
at the left, then click on "Downloadable files" and then
"Netfinity Manager". Below, you'll find: "Client Services
for Netfinity Manager for OS/2 version 5.20.1 & 5.20.4" and
"Netfinity Manager for OS/2 (English) version 5.20.4".
Click on "OS/2" and you'll see a bunch of other OS/2 related
files.

Netfinity is a family of distributed applications designed
to enhance the system monitoring and management capabilities
of a network. The client software is pretty useful for
examine your system (BIOS, peripherals, etc).

It appears that 3dfx has a new line of cards that includes
OS/2 drivers.
The Velocity 100 and Velocity 200 cards support OS/2.
See here: http://www.3dfx.com/view.asp?IOID=283

(Note: These appear to be a new line of cards targetted

Magician, the awesome Java based access to the OpenGL libraries is
back in business and is still supporting OS/2.
Support them by visiting their site and taking a look at what can be
achieved with OpenGL on OS/2.

http://www.arcana.co.uk

You can download Magician for OS/2 and also get a copy of
Philosophus if you so desire.

Cheers

Press Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
____________________________________________________________

Bill Schindler XML Double-Session At Warp Expo West !!

XML is the new, future language of the web, and Warp Expo West
presents you with two XML lectures to put you ahead of the competition
and save you hours of study time.

Bill Schindler is a renowned computer language and compiler code
optimization expert. In these two lectures he will show you what XML
can do, discuss the web applications that XML will allow you to create,
and demonstrate how you can write XML quickly to make your web pages
come alive in ways that HTML simply is not capable.

XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is dynamic. It allows you to create
your own "tags" so you aren't restricted to the ones defined in some
specification. These new tags are included in your web documents, and
the new browsers (he'll present the OS/2 XML browsers and tools in the
lectures) use these tags to put your web pages on the screen. Sets of
predefined XML tags called DTDs are already being created for your use,
including SVG (vector graphics), business-oriented data exchange, new
word processor formats, XSLT (data transformations), RDF (web-based
metadata), even technical arenas such as mathematics and molecule
descriptions.

Schindler is well-versed in language development and optimization, and
in these two XML lectures will show and teach you exactly what you need
to start writing XML. "And I'll show real examples," he says, "such as
how XML can give OS/2's drag-and-drop a major increase in intelligence."

In session one, "Why XML Is Important", you'll be given the new goals
that your web pages can now attain by using XML. You'll see how XML can
give you better web pages faster, you'll be given ways to organize your
information for better displays, and you'll get ideas to convince
management that you and XML can deliver a web presence that beats the
competition.

In session two, "An Introduction To XML", you'll learn the technical
aspects of coding web pages using XML, what decisions you'll have to
make for fast XML designs, the tricks you'll need for organizing the
pages, and how to parse and validate your XML documents so there won't
be surprises later.

Bill Schindler is a well-recognized OS/2 contributor. He's the Editor
In Chief of _Extended Attributes_ (the award-winning OS/2 magazine from
POSSI, the Phoenix OS/2 Society), author of Teach Yourself REXX In 21
Days, programmer of the Smack! OS/2 labeling program, and has a wide
background in compilers and code optimization. Bill is currently
incorporating XML into Smack! as its standard file format.

XML is the future and you _will_ need this information to stay
up-to-date as OS/2 grows. Join us and learn the future -- at Warp Expo
West!

                           - - -

Warp Expo West is free and will be held on September 18 near
Disneyland in sunny Southern California. All the info is at

             http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest

Sponsored by The Southern California OS/2 User Group.

I have built ApacheSSL basing on Apache 1.3.9
with support of OpenSSL 0.94, JServ 1.0, PHP
3.0.12(supports MySQL and GD), Cocoon 1.3.1,
JSP 1.0b, GSP 0.86 and SSI 1.2. The build
contains both SSL version and non-SSL version.
I would like to uploaded it to Hobbes, but
someone mailed me that it was illegal to put it
there, while the site is in USA. So i uploaded
it to dir /incoming/os2 of ftp.leo.org instead.
Late it would go in dir
/pub/comp/os/os2/tcpip/www of LEO.

The official MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) for OS/2 homepage
(http://emuos2.davesvgc.com) is back in operation after a brief
interruption due to server upgrades. You may have also noticed Dave's
Video Game Classics (http://www.davesvgc.com) was down for a while as it is
hosted on the same box. The new server is connected via. an OC-48 line and
response has never been better. ;-)

In any case, the page is back up and back to getting updated. A new MAME
release is soon to come. Thank you all for your patience.

- Marty

Greetings... i recently send a mail to net
computing.de, the makers of AnyJ (100% pure java
GUI development tool) and enquired why they didn't
release a OS/2 version of the prog since it's a
100% pure java build, this is the answer (very good
indeed:)

I just released version 2.04 of the LPTool utility, wich
has some windowing enhancements, performance improvements
and some fixes in the remote-execution part.

The text-based windowing system implements a command-line
with a history buffer so previous commands can be recalled
and edited easily. Also, the output goes to a large scrollable
window so you can page back and forth.

For those of you that don't know LPTool yet, its main purpose
is file-transfer using a standard LapLink parallel cable
connection (same cable as LapLink, MS Windows INTRSRV etc)

It is being used mainly for synchronization of laptops that
do not have network connectivity.

It also supports remote execution of commands over the cable,
including redirection of output. (similar to TCP/IP REXEC)

At the moment, only an OS/2 version exists, so you cannot
exchange files with a Windows or Linux machine.

You can get LPTool from my web-site: www.fsys.demon.nl

There is a nice screen-shot with some additional usage
information there as well.

Enjoy!

___________________________________________________________

IBM Bringing Rapid Deployment Team To Warp Expo West

"Pre Execution Services", "Remote Client Connection"
                  Now On Lecture Schedule

IBM is sending Rapid Deployment Team presence to Warp
Expo West.

Dennis Sposato of IBM's Network Computing Software
Division will speak on Pre Execution Services. Sposato is
on that division's Rapid Deployment Team, developer of
these new services.

Pre Execution Services allow for Dynamic MAC Addressing
(which bypasses the hardware MAC address), Remotely
Controlled Boot Manager, Pre-Execution Logon, Remote Client
Connection (boot from LAN without a NIC BOOT-ROM chip) for
WorkSpace On-Demand, and Personalized Local Data Drive.

This new IBM seminar is in addition to IBM's previously
announced lectures by Steven King, Senior Manager for IBM's
Network Computing Software Division. King will present
Services Offerings For The OS/2 Platforms in one session
and Warp Server For e-Business And WorkSpace On-Demand in
the other.

OS/2 users should not miss these three IBM presentations.
OS/2 is advancing with new technologies and new services,
and you _must_ stay up-to-date as these changes are made.

                           - - -

Warp Expo West will be held on September 18 near
Disneyland in sunny Southern California. Admission is
free.

Effective immediately, InnoVal Systems Solutions, Inc. is
withdrawing the following products from marketing and
support.

Post Road Mailer for OS/2
J Street Mailer for Java
Web Willy Watch for OS/2

Anyone may download free copies of these products from our
online store at http://stores.yahoo.com/innoval. In
addition, anyone may freely distribute executable copies of
the software through online software repositories and
websites. You are encouraged to do so because we will only
be able to keep them in our online store for a limited time.
If you distribute the Post Road Mailer you must also
distribute a serial number to allow a user to activate the
product. You may use a serial number you received from us in
the past (for release 3.0), or you may use serial number
31571728. You may also post serial numbers in newsgroups and
websites. Online orders, for these specific products, placed
with us during the last sixty days, have not been processed
and customers' credit cards have not been charged. These
orders will be cancelled and customers are free to keep and
use the downloaded code that they received when they placed
their order.

For me, personally, this is a sad day. Our company tried to
hang in as long as possible with OS/2. OS/2 is still my
favorite platform and OS/2 customers are the best customers
our company ever had. I have made many good friends through
my associations with all of you. You'll still see me popping
in at OS/2 users group meetings throughout the country when
my travels coincide with a meeting.

Our company continues to do very well. The consulting side
of the business has always been strong. The most exciting
area of business, however, is Iceptur. Iceptur is our new
Internet filtering software for the Windows 95/98/NT
platform. Despite the fact that there are over two hundred
competitors in this market niche, we are experiencing
phenomenal success. This is partly because of the unique
technology we developed and partly because there is a strong
demand for high quality Internet filtering solutions
(release 2.0 will hit the streets by September 5th). We have
entered into a number of strategic alliances with several
companies to market Iceptur and license the underlying
technology for use in other products.

I need, now, to focus all of InnoVal's resources on Iceptur
and our consulting business. I tried, during the past year,
to juggle resources but in doing so was not doing the right
kind of job for our customers, the OS/2 community at-large,
InnoVal's employees, or InnoVal's owners. You made the Post
Road Mailer into the number one email client for OS/2. You
worked with us on J Street Mailer as we tried to negotiate a
platform independent course with Java. You have my thanks
and the thanks of everyone at InnoVal.

We are moving on to bigger things, but not better. OS/2 was
better and (oh, how I wish) it could have been big.

Thanks again,

Dan Porter, President
InnoVal Systems Solutions, Inc.

The page at http://www.os2.spb.ru/technology/xfree86/xmms/
is dedicated to upcoming port of XMMS under OS/2.
XMMS is a Xwindows player of MP3,CD,MOD,STM, etc.
I think authors of PM123,WarpAmp and free programmers may
consider helping with audio part of the XMMS. Already
you can download GUI test version for XFree86/2. With
upcoming EverBlue project XMMS may help OS/2 community
and become a great PM player too. I myself will not do
audio part as I am too busy.

(If you do not know anything about EverBlue visit
Netlabs)

As you probably know, I released over the years some hopefully
usefull tools and utilities for OS/2 Warp.

The URL for the above was (until now):

http://www1.stuttgart.netsurf.de/~kevers/

This is no longer valid. Please update your bookmarks.
From now on, you can find

- TVFSCC ('TVFS Control Center')
- InProTrack ('Installed Product Tracker)
- mINI (INI viewer and editor)
- ORC ('ObjectReCreator')
- ConfigMaint/2 (Config.Sys analyser/optimizer)

on:

http://www.s.netic.de/kevers/

You can find the stuff directly by pointing to:
German version: http://www.s.netic.de/kevers/warp.html
English version: http://www.s.netic.de/kevers/warp_eng.html

BTW: I'm still working on the stuff, some beta versions are
in the queue, but because of lacks of time things will not go
on very fast in the future. Please be patient.

Press Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
____________________________________________________________

New Ideas For Your Business At Warp Expo West !!

You'll see plenty of business solutions while you're at
Warp Expo West.

OS/2 running your office phones? Sure! Both Active Voice
and Auto VoiceSystems will show you automated-attendant,
voicemail, and interactive voice response systems running on
OS/2, and how you can turn any office large-or-small into a
business telecommunications center. Need specialty
configurations such as Order Center or Help Desk? These two
companies together offer a one-stop OS/2 solution to help
you expand your phone center quickly.

Online sales need a boost? WarpCharge from Theta Band
Software runs on OS/2 and automatically processes credit
card orders over the 'net, plus handles your phone and mail
orders - the first OS/2 software to do so. Your
transactions are cleared securely over your existing
internet connection. And WarpCharge comes with an extensive
REXX interface so it neatly fits into your own way of doing
business.

Your office will hum smoothly with great OS/2 business
applications from Sundial Systems and Phoenix Software.
Sundial has the spreadsheet Mesa 2, the database frontend
DBExpert, the word processor Clearlook, the time manager
Relish, and the desktop companion Rover. Phoenix Software's
Think Tool Pro is a graphical-development (no programming
required) object database which can store structured data,
compound documents, complex data such as videos, sounds and
images, and knowledge databases -- and is a complete
solution platform for sales, project management, product
development, accounting, order entry, inventory, and all
other business needs.

Upgrade your servers and keep them running with Demand
Systems OS/2 servers, IBM's e-Business solutions, Serenity
Systems managed OS/2 clients and Legato's Standby Server for
OS/2 Warp. Demand Systems is an IBM Software Partner and
can preinstall OS/2 servers, clients and applications so
your new hardware simply plugs into the network and runs,
and they handle custom requirements such as xDSL and fax
servers too. IBM will show their entire suite of OS/2-based
e-Business solutions -- the new Warp Server For e-Business,
WorkSpace On-Demand, Java Server and Domino Server
performance improvements, TCP/IP capacity enhancements,
Services Offerings, and Remote Client Connection from the
Rapid Deployment Team. Serenity Systems manages your entire
network of diskless workstations with WiseManager, keeping
your hardware costs down and giving you better control of
your data. And Legato will make sure your network never
goes down from server failure.

Photo-quality images from your desktop printer are the key
to great presentations, and Klassic Specialties has the
special materials that create them. Sales, contract
proposals, point-of-sales, backlit displays -- all benefit
from snappy images, and Klassic can have you printing them
for instant use - even on fabric, plastic, metal or film.

These and dozens of other exhibitors, lecturers and
Vendor100's are waiting for you on September 18.

Your business runs better on OS/2, and we'll show you how
- at Warp Expo West!

                           - - -

Warp Expo West is free and will be held on September 18
near Disneyland in sunny Southern California. All the info
is at

             http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest

Sponsored by The Southern California OS/2 User Group.

Press Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
____________________________________________________________

Vendor100 Goes "Full Enterprise" At Warp Expo West

Network Platform To Be WiseManager On OS/2

Vendor100 has grown to "Full Enterprise" size and Warp
Expo West is upgrading the entire Vendor100 exhibitor space
to a new technology managed client network.

"You'll be able to walk up to any client system on the
network and run any Vendor100 application," said Rollin
White, Chairman of Warp Expo West. "No guest will have to
wait in line for a chance to use a single dedicated system
running a single vendor's software. Everything will run
everywhere."

The entire Vendor100 suite of software from dozens of
developers will be hosted on the newly engineered network,
and guests will have the unique experience of not being
restricted to a particular vendor's machine in order to try
their software. The network servers will use WiseManager
from Serenity Systems to manage all the clients.

"WiseManager doesn't use the hard disk in your system,"
explained Kim Cheung, Executive Director for Serenity.
"You install each application once at the server, and every
client system then uses that copy. And it's totally
configurable for each user. You still have your own
configuration files, your own data files. But it's all
stored on the server."

"There's a big savings here. Most of an application's
files never change, so we only need one server copy. The
few small files that do, such as configuration files, are
stored in the user's personal file space. WiseManager uses
the personal file if it exists, or uses the common file
otherwise."

Every network administrator should carefully go over the
Vendor100 network that will run continuously during Warp
Expo West. The network build team will be available for
questions.

"It's great for us because, if a client machine breaks, we
just replace it, turn on the new one, and boot from the
network. We don't have to install anything, and we're up
and running again instantly," commented White.

Cheung himself supervised the installation of the dozens
of different software applications on the servers. "It went
fast, not much different from a single client install, and
when one vendor sent an upgrade we only had to upgrade one
machine - the server - not every client," said Cheung.
"Suppose we had 50 machines! We'd have to install the
upgrade 50 times if we didn't have a managed client network.
WiseManager handles any size network -- up to 64,000
clients."

"We're also going to show how to install this new type of
network, and discuss the cost and security benefits of using
diskless workstations," Cheung said.

Managed client networks are a bold new technology for OS/2
network administrators, and every businessman and every OS/2
user with an interest in networking should make a point of
studying and discussing the Vendor100 network - at Warp Expo
West!

OS/2 StarOffice users should abandon all fear. In a
News.com story, Marco Boerries, founder and former owner of
Star Division, speaks on the future of StarOffice.

The main announcement is that the current native code, and
future thin-client java editions of the software will be
given away for free to all users, not just the educational
and home users (as has been the previous policy).

In addition to giving the software away for free, Sun will
make the original programming instructions, or "source
code," available under the Sun Community Source License.

Sun plans to make money selling services such as
installation and technical support for the software.

A new "thin" version, StarPortal, due by the end of the
year, is handled by a central server (like the current
StarOffice for Java version). Coming from Sun, and being
100% java, I think we have NO reason to fear if StarPortal
will run in OS/2 :).

Sun is expected to announce the Star Division acquisition
today in New York, where the company will demonstrate the
use of StarPortal on a Java-enabled PalmPilot, which is
connected to a server.

First off, I want to impress on people the significance of
this announcement. StarOffice 5.1 for OS/2 is available for
free (like it always was), but now the source code will be
similarly available. This means that Star Office will never
suffer the fate of some other OS/2 products like DeScribe
and Lotus SmartSuite. With the source code available, OS/2
programmers can fix bugs and add features as they see fit.
This is a great day for OS/2.

Now for some real news. To download the Sun version of Star
Office (it's probably the same as the Star Division
version), go to
http://www.sun.com/products/staroffice/get.html. You can
also order a CD for $16 that contains all English or all
German versions (yes, including OS/2). The press seems to
be ignoring the OS/2 version, but Sun isn't.

The source code is apparently not yet available. I
personally am very interested to see what tools they use to
compile it. It's quite possible that the OS/2 version is
built on a different OS.

One thing that some people are missing is that the source
code will (most likely?) be released under the Sun Community
Source License, which is a far cry from the GPL. For an
overview of the SCSL, see
http://www.sun.com/software/communitysource/faq.html.
Basically, there are some severe restrictions on the
distribution (even internally) of modified source code.

Press Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
____________________________________________________________

Six Internet Seminars At Warp Expo West

These six free Internet seminars have been carefully
scheduled so none are at the same time. If your interest,
your job or your business revolves around the Internet,
you'll get the knowledge you need at Warp Expo West.

           Web Server Performance and Scalability

Presented by Robert Chapman, Institute of Advanced
Development Strategies and SCOUG Member.

Mr. Chapman will lecture on intranet and internet
response times, file I/O bottlenecks, communication
bottlenecks, operating system constraints, platform issues
and the use of programs, Active Server Pages and Dynamic
HTML and the effect they have on performance, and the new
Application Server architectures and their current and
future ramifications. Be prepared with your own questions
about your current or planned Internet servers, because Mr.
Chapman will take questions from the floor.

             Quick Start for Netscape Composer

Presented by Virginia R. Hetrick, Ph.D., Senior Consultant
for CIBER Custom Solutions Group and SCOUG Member.

Dr. Hetrick will demonstrate how to design award-winning
web pages using the Composer portion of Netscape
Communicator, including all of its tools and capabilities,
the tricks that add "the look" to your pages, how to
properly organize your page information for maximum impact,
color selection, designing for the multiple resolutions that
visitors may use, layout styles, and headlining. Bring
printouts of your favorite web pages and learn how their
look and impact can be further improved.

Technology Overview: Why XML Is Important

Presented by Bill Schindler, Editor In Chief of Extended
Attributes, the award-winning OS/2 magazine published by
POSSI.

Mr. Schindler will present the reasons that XML is
important to web businesses, web designers and web users,
the history of web languages, the relationship between XML
and the alternatives, the purpose of XML in web page design,
and the business and casual considerations that must be
analyzed when deciding on its usage. All persons who manage
or design web pages should attend this seminar.

                   Managing Your Website

Presented by Virginia R. Hetrick, Ph.D., Senior Consultant
for CIBER Custom Solutions Group and SCOUG Member.

Dr. Hetrick's background in managing web sites for UCLA
and other organizations has led to a successful overall
strategy for designing and running any web site, from
avoiding the "web wall" to planning your expansion, handling
traffic, tracking usage, what to look for when analyzing
server logs, reorganizing the web site, budgeting the
resources, and handling each of the certain problems as they
occur. Web site administrators and future administrators
need the training and insights included in this lecture.

               Internet Communication Methods

Presented by Dave Watson, SCOUG Member and Internet SIG
Leader.

Mr. Watson will cover the full complement of Internet
communication methods, from traditional asynchronous
protocols to live interactive sessions, email, mail lists,
newsgroups, Internet relay chat, instant messaging, CUSeeMe,
sending to many individuals simultaneously, the programs
which supply these functionalities, the current OS/2
resources, the importance these capabilities will have in
our everyday lives as bandwidth and processing power
increase, and a changed future as connectivity becomes truly
universal. Most web users have heard of these capabilities
but are unaware of many of the business and personal uses,
and this presentation will give all attendees the major new
insights into how these technologies are just beginning to
affect our lives and our pocketbooks.

               An Introduction to XML Basics

Presented by Bill Schindler, Editor In Chief of Extended
Attributes, the award-winning OS/2 magazine published by
POSSI.

Mr. Schindler will present a somewhat technical
introduction to XML (eXtensible Markup Language), including
how XML is different from HTML, how to create a well-formed
XML document, parsing and validating an XML document,
creating your own "tags", using DTDs, vector graphics, data
transformations, fast XML design, and design considerations.
XML is the new future language of the web and those who
control web sites need this information to stay ahead of the
competition.

"There has been a lot of excitement and anticipation of the
Think Tool Pro in the OS/2 community. Warp Expo West is an
excellent venue for us exhibit what we have been working on
all this time, and we excited about participating," said
Robert Blake, business manager of Phoenix Software.

"The version of the Think Tool Pro that we will be
demonstrating at Warp Expo West will be very close to the
shipping version," explained Peter Martin, lead developer
at Phoenix Software. "Warp Expo West attendees will have a
great opportunity to experience the Think Tool Pro before
it is generally available - which is yet another reason to
attend Warp Expo West."

The GA (General Availability) version of the Think Tool Pro
is expected to ship in first week in October.

A new release of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) for OS/2 is
available. MAME runs over 1200 classic and some not so classic arcade
games from the comfort of your OS/2 desktop.

The current OS/2 version is .35 beta 11 (final). This replaces the
previous "prerelease" version and fixes just about every bug I knew about
(and hopefully many I didn't know about).

For more information and to download the latest version, visit
http://emuos2.davesvgc.com. There is a Pentium optimized as well as a 486
optimized version available.

Enjoy!

As a follow-up to my previous post about Netfinity 5.2 for
OS/2 being available for a free download, a similar product
called SystemView Agent is also available for download at
http://www.tivoli.com/support/sva/shaos2.html.

SVA provides some DMI (desktop management interface)
support, namely DMI 1.1. The latest version is DMI 2.0, but
that's also old since SMBIOS has replaced DMI as a means of
querying information about your computer from the BIOS.
Supposedly, Netfinity can use SVA as it's "DMI Service
Layer", although I haven't gotten that part to work yet.

Anyway, if you're looking for a means to manage the clients
on your LAN, or just query information about your system,
and you don't have any money to spend, this is one option.

Company Press Release

ECHO Certifies Theta Band's WarpCharge Software

AGOURA HILLS, Calif.--Aug. 31, 1999--Electronic Clearing House Inc.
(NASDAQ:ECHO - news) announced the certification of WarpCharge software
written by Theta Band Software LLC.

WarpCharge, a new online payment program for IBM OS/2 that works
exclusively with ECHONLINE(SM) service, enables Web sites to
securely process credit card transactions directly over the Internet.
ECHO is the only processor that has certified WarpCharge to date.

WarpCharge uses SSL technology to securely transmit transactions to
ECHO over the Internet, rather than requiring the use of a modem
to establish a dial-up connection to a bank for each transaction. This
yields a substantial improvement in processing time over the
traditional dial-up approach.

``Several software houses have built NT-based and UNIX-based credit
card processing interfaces for use on the Internet but WarpCharge
is the first program ECHO has seen that has addressed the
needs of the largely untapped IBM OS/2 marketplace of users,'' stated
Larry Brown, vice president and chief technical officer of ECHO.

``We're pleased to be working with such technically accomplished
people as we see at Theta Band Software LLC.''

``I'm pleased that Theta Band has introduced WarpCharge to the
marketplace,'' said Timothy Sipples, senior technical specialist,
IBM Network Computing Software. ``WarpCharge should prove to be a
popular revenue-generating tool for IBM's Web-savvy customers,
particularly those enjoying the benefits of IBM's new OS/2 Warp
Server for e-business.''

Theta Band Software, with headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif.,
was founded in 1997 and develops Internet and multimedia software
products for IBM OS/2 Warp that are marketed and sold on the World
Wide Web.

Electronic Clearing House is an electronic payment processor
that serves more than 19,000 retail merchants and U-Haul dealers
nationwide and processes all major credit cards; check conversion,
truncation, verification and guarantee; inventory tracking; and
Internet-based transactions.

ECHO is also a systems integrator and designer of both software
and/or hardware systems that are presently being used as credit
card processing terminals, inventory tracking devices, automated
money order dispensers and casino cash advance systems.

To take advantage of the new ``safe harbor'' provisions of the
Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995, readers are
hereby cautioned that this release contains forward-looking statements
that are based upon current expectations and involve a number of
risks and uncertainties. Actual operations and results may differ
materially from those expressed in the forward-looking statements
made by the company.

Subj: Announcing the OS/2 Command Line Utilities version 2.0

                              Announcing the

OS/2 Command Line Utilities version 2.0

The OS/2 Command Line Utilities, OS2CLU, version 2.0 comprises a suite of
native 32-bit OS/2 commands that provide many useful abilities for the
OS/2 user, from searching archive files and subdirectories for filenames,
through searching text files for patterns, to improved versions of several
of the commands that are supplied with OS/2 itself that allow one to
remove more of the 16-bit vestiges that remain in OS/2 Warp.

They are "command line" utilities because they can all be driven from the
command line, making them suitable for use in command scripts ("batch
files"). However, OS2CLU comprises a mixture of text-mode and
Presentation Manager (i.e. graphical) programs.

FEATURES

All of the utilities are fully 32-bit native OS/2 programs, written to
take advantage of many of the features of 32-bit OS/2, such as its
  ability to scan directories efficiently.

27 new commands that weren't in OS2CLU version 1.0: ANACLOCK, ARCDIR,
BCOMP, CALCTZ, COMP, CPUIDG, CPUIDT, DELTREE, DIGCLOCK, DIRSIZE, FIND,
FINDDUPS, FITSIZE, HELP, PARTLIST, RESETINI, SAYDATE, SETDATE, SORT,
STRINGS, SUM, TASKLIST, TEE, TEXTCONV, TREE, WINSIGHT, and Y.

All of the utilities that deal with dates are fully capable of handling
dates beyond the year 2000, beyond the year 2038 -- which is the "drop
dead" date for much 32-bit C and C++ code --, and right up to the year
  2107, in fact.

Ironically, this ability in the TOUCH and XDIR commands has revealed two
Year 2100 bugs in OS/2's own FAT and HPFS filesystem drivers!

All of the utilities that deal with files support extended wildcards,
which are a superset of the standard OS/2 wildcard syntax, similar to
the wildcards that are available in most UNIX shells.

  For example:

    [c:\]attrib +r *.{zip,arj,rar,lzh,tar.gz}

        and

    [c:\]xdir [a-c]*

        and

    [c:\]dump /s *.{su,mo,tu,we,th,fr,sa}[0-9]

Several of the utilities are 32-bit replacements for commands supplied
with OS/2 itself that are *still*, even in OS/2 Warp version 4, 16-bit
programs or batch files, such as ATTRIB, COMP, FIND, HELP, SORT, and
  TREE.

Needless to say, many of the uglier "features" of the OS/2-supplied
commands have been removed. The OS2CLU SORT command, for example, can
sort files named on the command line as well as its standard input, and
can sort files that are greater than 64KiB in size. The OS2CLU COMP
command can be used in a batch file with ease. The OS2CLU FIND command
supports regular expressions and the ability to be used in a command
pipeline. The OS2CLU HELP command can be configured to search different
on-line books by default and won't destroy a customised command prompt
if one turns help on and off. And the OS2CLU TREE command, unlike the
TREE supplied with OS/2, *actually displays a tree*!

The command-line interface to all of the utilities is straightforward
and consistent, and is based on conventions that will be familiar to PC
  users.

For example, all of the utilities support the /? option for obtaining
help; and the /S option always means "recurse into subdirectories",
  whatever the command.

The utilities come with a detailed on-line help document, in the
  standard OS/2 INF file format.

The DUMP, FIND, GREP, SORT, STRINGS, SUM, TEE, TEXTCONV, WC, WHAT, and Y
commands can be used as filter commands, for use in a command pipeline,
acting upon what they receive from their standard input, and producing
  results on their standard output.

All of the utilities contain international support, displaying the date
and time in the format appropriate to the current setting given for
COUNTRY in CONFIG.SYS, and using OS/2's system message file for the text
  of error messages.

All of the utilities that deal with dates and times can also use the ISO
8601 standard date and time representation, which uses an unambiguous
format with a 4-digit year, in order to avoid the inherent ambiguity in
the "national" date formats for the first 31 years of the 21st century
  (e.g. 01/02/03).

The SAYDATE and DIGCLOCK utilities fully support the TZ environment
variable, with the standard POSIX syntax (ISO/IEC 9445-1:1990), allowing
one to operate in any timezone, in either hemisphere, with daylight
savings time rules being applied correctly and automatically.

This also allows different commands to be run in different timezones.
So one could have, if one wanted, multiple instances of DIGCLOCK running
on the desktop at the same time, all operating in different timezones
and with different daylight savings time rules! A fully configurable
  and extensible "world clock"!

All utilities are limited only by available virtual memory.

The DIR command in CMD, the default command processor supplied with
OS/2, refuses to sort a directory listing containing more than 2073
files. The DIR command in 4OS2 fails when the directory size reaches a
  more respectable 20,000 files.

But the XDIR command in OS2CLU was able, in testing, to sort a directory
listing of 100,000 files, and even that didn't reach its limit! (We
just ran out of enthusiasm to go any higher. (-:)

All of the utilities that deal with files fully support long filenames,
filenames with embedded spaces and multiple full stops, deep directory
  trees, and large directories.

Indeed, the TREE command was added to OS2CLU version 2.0 because one of
the popular TREE utilities for OS/2 couldn't handle the C:\OS2\ARCHIVES
directory tree and would always crash because it was too deep!

All of the utilities that deal with files fully support the Universal
Naming Convention, used by LANs and by OS/2 Warp Server 5 ("Aurora").

For example, one doesn't need to use drive letters to access files on
LAN fileservers, since one can use UNC filenames instead:

    [c:\]ff /s/e \\server\sharename\*.txt

        and

    [c:\]xdir \\server\sharename\*.{exe,com,cmd}

All of the text-mode utilities can be used when OS/2 is booted to a
  text-mode command line.

THE INDIVIDUAL UTILITIES

ANACLOCK A simple Presentation Manager analogue clock program, with
full support for timezones and automatic (and effortless)
switching to and from daylight savings time.

ARCDIR Displays the contents of archives. It performs much the
same function as the "l" or "-view" option to many
archiving tools, except that one tool supports multiple
archive types with one uniform command syntax, can list
files within the archive matching particular wildcards,
can sort the listing, and can even produce a single
(sorted) list of the contents of multiple archive files
that match a particular wild card, optionally recursing
                into subdirectories to find them.

ATTRIB Is an enhanced, 32-bit, replacement for OS/2's 16-bit
ATTRIB command. It includes, amongst other enhancements,
extended wildcards, the ability to include and exclude
files by attribute, and the ability to modify the
attributes of subdirectories as well as files.

BCOMP A simple binary byte-for-byte comparison of two files.

CALCTZ A Presentation Manager utility to help calculate the TZ
environment variable string for any given timezone and
daylight savings time rules. Unlike other TZ calculators,
this command calculates a TZ string that is in the
                standard POSIX 1003.1 (ISO/IEC 9445-1:1990) format.

COMP Is an enhanced, 32-bit, replacement for OS/2's 16-bit COMP
command. It doesn't prompt the user, so can be used in
command scripts, and has a more compact output format so
that differences are easier to spot. It can also recurse
into subdirectories to compare entire directory trees; and
                it supports extended wildcards.

CONVCASE Renames filenames to upper, lower, or mixed case, which is
handy in those situations where other programs insist upon
creating all-uppercase or all-lowercase filenames. It
supports the standard OS2CLU features of recursing into
                subdirectories, including/excluding files by attribute,
                and extended wildcards.

CPUIDG A Presentation Manager program to display the information
obtained about the CPU by the CPUID instruction, including
the various AMD and Cyrix extensions.

CPUIDT A text-mode program to display the information obtained
about the CPU by the CPUID instruction, including
the various AMD and Cyrix extensions.

DELTREE A REXX wrapper script for the XDEL command that behaves
much like the DELTREE command in MS-DOS and DR-DOS does.

DIGCLOCK A simple Presentation Manager digital clock program, with
a fully configurable display format and full support for
timezones and automatic (and effortless) switching to and
                from daylight savings time.

DIRSIZE Displays the sizes of directories, much like the GNU `du'
command does, but with the standard OS2CLU features such
as enhanced wildcards and the ability to include/exclude
files by attribute, and with the same simple, consistent,
PC-style, interface of the other utilities that should be
familiar to OS/2 users. It also displays the actual true
"allocated space" figures when used on large FAT volumes.

DUMP Dumps the contents of many types of file, including the
popular ARC, ARJ, LZH, RAR, ZIP, and ZOO archive file
formats, PKT files (used for mail transfer on Fidonet),
executable and DLL files, and Intel object module files
                (OBJ and LIB files).

FF A versatile yet simple and fast file finder, that is also
capable of locating files that are contained within ARC,
ARJ, LZH, RAR, ZIP, and ZOO archives. It supports the
standard OS2CLU features of recursing into subdirectories,
including/excluding files by attribute, and extended
                wildcards.

FIND A REXX wrapper for the GREP command that can replace
OS/2's 16-bit FIND command, searching for lines in text
files that contain a given string. It has the standard
OS2CLU features of being able to operate recursively on
files in subdirectories and include/exclude files by
attribute. It can also has a "brief" display format, and
the ability to display counts of the number of lines
                found.

FINDDUPS Locates files that are exact duplicates of one another,
even if they have different names and timestamps. It
supports the standard OS2CLU features of recursing into
                subdirectories, including/excluding files by attribute,
                and extended wildcards.

FITSIZE Groups files into bundles that don't exceed a given total
size. It is useful for burning CD-ROMs, or collecting
                files onto LS-120 super-floppy discs.

GREP Finds lines that match a given pattern in text files, much
like the GNU `egrep' command, but with the standard OS2CLU
features. It implements almost the entire POSIX "extended"
regular expression syntax -- far more than most other grep
utilities, which usually only provide the POSIX "basic"
                syntax.

HELP An enhanced, REXX, replacement for OS/2's HELP command
(which is a "batch file"). It won't upset customised
PROMPT strings, and doesn't require the 16-bit HELPMSG
program in order to function. It also allows the command
reference on-line book that is used by default to be
configured via the CMDREF environment variable.

It is also useful as a replacement for the HELP command
that is built in to Take Command for OS/2, JP Software's
command interpreter for OS/2, which doesn't work too well!

PARTLIST Displays the entire, unmodified, contents of the partition
table on one or all of the available partitionable disc
devices. Unlike FDISK /QUERY, the partition table is
displayed in raw uninterpreted form, with the partition
sizes displayed in numbers of sectors, rather than being
                converted to KiB.

The /FIX option will fix some of the more common errors
caused by disc geometry changes (which can occur when a
disc is moved from one machine to another or when a
different make of SCSI host adapter is used, for example).

PLAYTUNE Plays a tune through the PC speaker. No more messing
around converting a tune to a series of numbers for BEEPs!
And no more need to run QBASIC in a VDM, which eats CPU
time, just to play a tune! The tune is given in a format
compatible with the "PLAY" statement in the BASIC language
and with so-called "ANSI music" as used by several BBS and
                offline mail and comms utilities.

RESETINI Removes the read-only attribute from the user and system
INI files, and then instructs Workplace Shell to reload
them. It is useful as an aid to recovery if an incomplete
shutdown has left the INI files read-only by accident. It
also has the side-effect of closing and re-opening the WPS
Desktop folder without restarting the system.

fully configurable display format and full support for
timezones and automatic (and effortless) switching to and
from daylight savings time. The DATE and TIME commands
cannot be used in command scripts to display the date and
time without some ugliness, because they prompt for input.
                This command can be!

SETDATE Allows the hardware real-time clock to be set from a date
or time expressed as local time in any arbitrary timezone.
It also sets the date and time simultaneously, avoiding
race conditions in command scripts when used near
                midnight.

SORT An enhanced, 32-bit, replacement for OS/2's 16-bit SORT
command. It can sort up to the size of available virtual
memory and has no 64KiB limit, can also sort files named
on the command line, and supports extended wildcards and
the other standard OS2CLU features. It's also quicker!

STRINGS Displays embedded strings of characters in files, which is
particularly useful for searching binary files for text
strings. It supports the standard OS2CLU features of
recursing into subdirectories, including and excluding
files by attribute, and extended wildcards.

SUM Calculates CRC-16, CRC-32, two different types of checksum
(UNIX BSD and System V), and the MD5 fingerprint for
files. It supports the standard OS2CLU features of
                recursing into subdirectories, including/excluding files
                by attribute, and extended wildcards.

TASKLIST Lists the contents of the PM Window List in text form,
suitable for parsing, or use from text-mode programs.

TEE A "T-shaped" pipe fitting, that sends its standard input
to its standard output, writing or appending a copy of it
to one or more files named as its arguments.

TEXTCONV Converts text files from one code page and newline
convention to another. It makes it easy to interchange
text files between OS/2 and Usenet, the Macintosh, and
UNIX/linux, or between OS/2 users in different countries
with different code pages. It supports code page 1004 in
particular, in order that one can convert text files from
other code pages to ISO 8859 Latin-1.

TOUCH Changes the last modification, last access, or creation
timestamp of files and directories. It can override
read-only protection, and it supports the standard OS2CLU
features of being able to recurse into subdirectories and
include/exclude files by attribute, and extended
                wildcards.

TREE An enhanced 32-bit replacement for OS/2's 16-bit TREE
command. Unlike the latter, this command actually
displays a tree! It can also display size information,
and be limited to using only ASCII characters instead of
character graphics. It also supports extended wildcards.

WC Counts the number of lines, words, letters, characters, and
bytes in files. It supports the standard OS2CLU features
                of recursing into subdirectories, including/excluding
files by attribute, and extended wildcards.

WHAT Finds any embedded SCCS identifying strings in files.

WHICH Finds out what would be executed if a given command name
were used. It knows about commands that are built into
the 16-bit CMD, 32-bit CMD, and 4OS2 command interpreters,
and obeys the PATHEXT environment variable.

XDEL Deletes files. It supports the standard OS2CLU features
                of recursing into subdirectories, including/excluding
files by attribute, and extended wildcards. It can also
                remove empty subdirectories, override read-only
protection, and wipe the contents of files before deleting
them in order to prevent them from being successfully
                undeleted.

XDIR Displays directory listings. It supports the standard
OS2CLU features of recursing into subdirectories,
including/excluding files by attribute, and extended
wildcards. It can also sort files from multiple
subdirectories into one big list, allowing one to see all
files in multiple subdirectories sorted together by size
for example, and has no arbitrary limits on the number of
                files that it can process.

WINSIGHT Displays the hierarchy of Presentation Manager windows as
a tree structure, showing window handles, parents, owners,
process and thread IDs, styles, IDs, types, and text.

Y A "Y-shaped" pipe fitting, that concatenates its standard
input with one or more files and sends the result to its
standard output. It can also be used as a more powerful
replacement for the TYPE command built into IBM's 16-bit
CMD command interpreter, since it supports the standard
OS2CLU features of extended wildcards, inclusion and
exclusion of files by attributes, and recursion into
                subdirectories.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jonathan de Boyne Pollard is a professional computer programmer who
specialises in consultancy and development of operating systems and tools,
and who writes things like the OS/2 Command Line Utilities in his spare
time. Other previous projects of his include such things as a complete
replacement for the runtime library for Borland C++ 3.1, allowing it to be
used to develop 16-bit OS/2 programs. He also maintained the Highly
Unofficial Fidonet OS2PROG C++ Compiler Pros and Cons List for several
years, and is the moderator of the international OS2DOS Fidonet echo. He
is currently working on a project which he believes will astonish 32-bit
OS/2 users.

The best, most reliable, and quickest, way to contact him is on Fidonet,
by sending netmail addressed to either

 Jonathan de Boyne Pollard, FIDONET#2:257/609.3

  or

 Jonathan de Boyne Pollard, FIDONET#1:109/921.70,

which are his two permanent "point" addresses. Alternatively, you can
post a message in the Fidonet OS2PROG or OS2 echoes.

Another way to contact him is via the Internet mailbox
<J.deBoynePollard@tesco.net>. Since this is a mailbox hosted by one of
the U.K.'s "free ISPs", and subject to the standard "use every 90 days or
it will be deleted" conditions that such ISPs impose, this latter address
is not guaranteed to be reliable, or even valid, in years to come however.
