New Software!

It is the policy of Lucent Technologies to improve products as
new technology, components, software and firmware become
available. If you installed WavePOINT access point(s) before
you may wish to upgrade the previously installed unit(s) to the
latest software version 4.50.

Why Upgrade?

The WavePOINT software v. 4.50 fixes some minor bugs that
existed in v.3.01, and adds two extra features to v.4.01.

+	Subnet Mask Support to comply with certain types of
Network Management Tools, such as HP Open View.

+	Frequency Channel set for France

If the previously installed WavePOINTs are using v.4.01, there is no need to upgrade, unless you would like to
implement one of the new features described above. If the
previously installed units are using v.3.01 software an upgrade to
v.4.50 is recommended
-------------------------------------------------------------
How to Upgrade?

1	Determine the software version currently installed on your
WavePOINT units.

2	Install the new WavePOINT software on your computer.

3	(v.3.01 only) Upgrade from v.3.01 to v.4.50.

4	(Optional) Implement the new features of v.4.50.
-------------------------------------------------------------
HINT!

When initiating a 'Load WavePOINT' operation, the
Configurator program, will prompt you to save a configuration
file to disk (file format = *.cfg). When you saved previous
configuration files for each WavePOINT, using these back-up
copies will help you to ensure each unit will be re-loaded with
exactly the same configuration parameters.

If you do not have such back-up copies, you will have to
specify all WavePOINT parameters manually.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Determine the Software Version.

There are three ways to determine the version number of the
software currently installed in your WavePOINT:

1	Read the version number from the printed label of the
software diskette that came with the previously installed
WavePOINT(s).

2	Read the first line of the README.TXT file, located in
the directory you chose the last time when you installed
the WavePOINT software.

3	Run the WavePOINT Configurator program (currently
installed on your computer), to read the version number of
the utility from the screen, where:

Configurator v.2.12 identifies WavePOINT software v.3.01
Configurator v.2.15 identifies WavePOINT software v.4.01
Configurator v.2.20 identifies WavePOINT software v.4.02
-------------------------------------------------------------
Install the New WavePOINT Software

1	Insert WavePOINT software disk 1 into your computer
and follow the instructions as described on page 2-9 to 2-
15 of the WavePOINT Installation and Operation Guide.
You must also create a new Configurator Environment
Diskette and a Utilities Diskette.

2	If you wish to upgrade from v.4.01/4.02 to v.4.50, skip
Step 3 and 4, and proceed with "Implement the New
Features of v.4.50" on page 3 of this document.
When upgrading from v.301, proceed with Step 3.

3	Insert WavePOINT software disk 2 into your computer.

4	Run batchfile CPY2HDSK again as described on page 2-11
of the Installation and Operation Guide.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Upgrade from v.3.01 (or lower) to 4.50

For WavePOINT(s) that currently use software v.3.01, it is not
possible to implement the extended features of v.4.50 directly.
You must first upgrade the units to v.4.50 as described in the
following steps:

1	Take the Configurator Environment Diskette you created
during the software installation, and insert it into your
computer.

2	Restart the computer.

The computer will automatically start the Configurator tool
(v.2.20), but you do not need this program now.

3	Quit the Configurator v.2.20.

4	Move to the directory you chose to install the new
WavePOINT software, and start the upgrade utility:

cd c:\wavepnt\util
upgrade.exe

The 'UPGRADE.EXE' program resembles the WavePOINT
Configurator 'CONFUTIL.EXE' (v.2.15) described in Chapter
3 of the WavePOINT Installation and Operation Guide.

5	From the 'UPGRADE.EXE' start-up screen, select File to open
the menu 'File Operations'.

6	Insert the back-up diskette containing your WavePOINT
Configuration files into your computer.

7	Select 'Retrieve Configuration' to load the required back-up
file.

8	(optional) Move to the menu `Configure' to view or modify
configuration parameters.

9	Return to the Start-up screen and select `Load WavePOINT'
(follow the instructions as described on page 3-13 of the
Installation and Operation Guide).

10	If you modified any of the configuration parameters, you
will be prompted to save the configuration file.

Select Yes, and enter a file name to save the configuration
parameters for this unit to a back-up diskette.

11	Repeat Step 1-10 for each WavePOINT.

This will complete the procedure to upgrade to software v.4.50
If you wish to implement the Subnet Mask Feature or select a
sub-band from the channel set for France, proceed with
"Implement the New Features of v.4.50".
-------------------------------------------------------------
Implement the New Features of v.4.50

To specify the Subnet Mask parameters or to select an
operating frequency from the channel set for France, you must
run the latest version of the WavePOINT configurator program
(v.2.20). This version resembles CONFUTIL.EXE v.2.15,
described in Chapter 3 of the Installation and operation Guide.

1	Insert the Configurator Environment Diskette into your
computer and restart the computer.

Your computer will automatically start the latest version of
the Configurator tool (v.2.20).

2	From the start-up screen of the WavePOINT Configurator,
select File to open the menu 'File operations'.

3	Insert the back-up diskette containing your WavePOINT
Configuration files into your computer.

4	Select Retrieve Configuration to load the required back-up file.

5	(optional) Move to the Configure menu to view or modify
configuration parameters:

+	To select the Channel Set for France, move to the
menu Configure and select Basic Parameters, Model
No.(Frequency) and press the Enter key to open a drop
down menu.

+	To implement Subnet Mask, move to the menu
Configure and select Advanced Parameters, SNMP setup,
Subnet Mask.

6	Return to the Start-up screen and select Load WavePOINT
to reload the configuration parameters.

7	If you modified any of the configuration parameters, you
will be prompted to save the Configuration File.
Select Yes, and enter a file name to save the configuration
parameters for this unit to a back-up diskette.

8	Repeat Step 1-7 for each WavePOINT.
