OSINWHCD - OS/2 FOR WINDOWS CD-ROM WHITE LABEL INFORMATION 10/20/94 ================================================================ OS/2 FOR WINDOWS CD-ROM WHITE LABEL DISKETTES INFORMATION ================================================================ Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures ---------------------------------------------------------------- Creating Installation Diskettes for OS/2 for Windows with a CD-ROM White Label -------------------------------------------------------------- There are two README's, located in OS2SE21\ subdirectory, you can view or print in DOS or OS/2. This directory also contains images of all the diskettes. - README.INS located on DISK3_ - README located on DISK2_ To install the OS/2 for Windows CD-ROM with a WHITE LABEL, create the Installation Diskette and Disk1 images to diskette by doing the following: 1. Start the system with DOS. 2. If the A: drive is 3.5", insert a formatted diskette in the diskette drive, type the following commands and press Enter after each one: NOTE: X: is the CD-ROM drive letter X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\35\DISK0_CD.DSK X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\35\DISK1_CD.DSK If the A: drive is 5.25", insert a formatted diskette in the diskette drive, type the following commands and press Enter after each one: X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\525\DISK0_CD.DSK X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\525\DISK1_CD.DSK 3. If the CD-ROM is attached to one of the following devices and set up properly, the CD-ROM should be recognized during the installation. OS/2 drivers for CD-ROMs connected to SCSI controllers: Adaptec: AHA152X.ADD AHA154X.ADD AHA164X.ADD AHA174X.ADD Future Domain: FD16-700.ADD FD8XX.ADD FD7000EX.ADD DPT: DPT20XX.ADD If your CD-ROM is not attached to a device listed above: - Contact the vendor of the interface/SCSI card to obtain an OS/2 driver. - Ask for the name of the driver to download from the vendors' BBS or IBM PCC BBS (919) 517-0001. - You can create diskettes from images and install OS/2 using diskettes. README.INS provides the procedure to create OS/2 diskettes. - Perform the installation hard disk to hard disk. See the following steps: Hard Disk to Hard Disk Install: ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Start your system from DOS. 2. Make a temporary directory called TEMP, type: MD TEMP and press Enter 3. Type: XCOPY X:\OS2SE21\*.* /S C:\TEMP and press Enter X:\ is the CD-ROM drive C:\ is a drive that contains enough disk space to place the images and/or OS2 NOTE: size = 35 or 525 and X:\ is CD-ROM drive letter 4. To create the Installation Diskette, type the command and press Enter: X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\DISK0.DSK A: 5. To create DISK1 Diskette, type the command and press Enter: X:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF X:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\DISK1.DSK A: 6. Edit the CONFIG.SYS on the new DISK1 Change: SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE To: SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE C:\TEMP Save and Exit 7. You can start the installation if you have the following: - Installation Diskette - Disk1 Diskette - Diskette images in a directory called TEMP on the harddisk Insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in drive A and restart your system. 8. Insert DISK1 when prompted and continue with installing. WIN311.ZIP For MS Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups 3.X. Com Ports Not Available When Using OS/2 For Windows with XR06300 ---------------------------------------------------------------- A maintenance diskette, WIN311.ZIP is available for OS/2. The software is not an upgrade but code modifications enabling OS/2 for Windows to be compatible with: MS Windows 3.11 Windows for Workgroups 3.X MS Windows and OS/2 for Windows must be installed before installing WIN311.ZIP. ServicePak, XR06300, may be installed, if necessary. WIN311.ZIP is LAST to be installed on system. Dealers and resellers may order the maintenance diskette, WIN311.ZIP, through GEMS, part number P83G8740. These diskettes were sent to area PSM Brand Managers. WIN311.ZIP is available on: CompuServe: GO OS2SUPPO - Library 17 OS2BBS: OS/2 Fix section of software library Prodigy: Fix section of download library - IBM files section Internet: SOFTWARE.WATSON.IBM.COM The WIN311.ZIP is LAST to be installed. Some systems receive errors due to read-only files. If errors occur, type: ATTRIB -r FILENAME to remove the read-only attribute. For FILENAME, use the name of the file in the error. Installing If WIN-OS/2 Support is Not Installed: ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Run a selective install for WIN-OS/2 support (If ServicePak is installed run A:SERVICE from the ServicePak diskettes before continuing with the WIN311.ZIP installation) 2. Type: PKUNZIP WIN311-D A: 3. Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS is in, type: X: and press Enter (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside) A:\INSTALL and press Enter 4. Remove the diskette, shutdown and restart the system. Installing with WINOS/2 Already Installed: ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Type: PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A: 2. Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS is in, type: X: and press Enter (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside) A:\INSTALL and press Enter 3. Remove the diskette, shutdown and restart the system. Upgrading Windows 3.1 to Windows for Workgroups ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Install Windows for Workgroups over Windows 3.1 - Installing on a system with Dual Boot or Boot Manager, you must boot over to DOS to install. 2. Install WIN311.ZIP to be compatible with OS/2. 3. Insert diskette in drive A:. Using PKUNZIP from the root directory, type: PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A: and press Enter 4. Go to an OS/2 Full Screen and from the drive that WINDOWS is in, type, X: and press Enter (X: = drive where WINDOWS reside) A:\INSTALL and press Enter NOTE: After installing the maintenance diskette, the "Install successfully completed" message appears. If you do a selective install of WIN-OS/2 after applying WIN311.ZIP or reapply the ServicePak diskettes, you need to re-apply the WIN311.ZIP again. WIN311.ZIP is always LAST to be installed. COMM Ports not Available When Using OS/2 for Windows with XR06300 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 ----------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOM: When running OS/2 For Windows with Windows For Workgroups 3.11, WIN311.ZIP should be used. After applying WIN311.ZIP, WIN-OS/2 should work except for the communications driver where the error message Comm ports not available occurs. The COMM.DRV driver in Windows For Workgroups 3.11 is different than the COMM.DRV driver in standard Windows 3.10. WIN311.ZIP did not address the driver. RESOLUTION: Use the COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10, not the COMM.DRV included with Windows For Workgroups 3.11. PROCEDURE: Replace COMM.DRV in Windows For Workgroups \WINDOWS\SYSTEM, directory with the COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10.
