OSINDSK3 - CREATING DISKETTES FROM THE OS/2 WARP CD-ROM 12/06/94 ================================================================ CREATING DISKETTES FROM THE OS/2 WARP CD-ROM ================================================================ Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures ---------------------------------------------------------------- Use formatted diskettes for these procedures. Creating Diskettes For CD-ROM Installation ---------------------------------------------------------------- To create the 2 "kicker" diskettes for CD-ROM installation: 1. Insert the OS/2 Warp CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. 2. Change to the CD-ROM drive, type X: and press Enter. Where X is the letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive. 3. Type: CDINST and press Enter. You are prompted to insert blank formatted diskettes. 4. When the process is completed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system and begin installation of OS/2 Warp. Creating A Full Set of Diskettes from the CD-ROM ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the OS/2 Warp CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. 2. Change to the CD-ROM drive, type X: and press Enter. Where X is the letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive. 3. Type: MAKEDSKS and press Enter. You are prompted to insert blank formatted diskettes. 4. When the process is completed, reinsert the Installation Diskette in the A: drive. 5. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system and begin installation of OS/2 Warp. XDF - Diskette Image Format ---------------------------------------------------------------- XDF is a higher capacity diskette image format for OS/2 WARP installation. This reduces the number of diskettes needed for installation. Two new files, XDFLOPPY.FLT and XDFCOPY.EXE and the new versions of IBM1FLPY.ADD and IBM2FLPY.ADD are needed. Setting Up an OS/2 Imaging Environment ----------------------------------------------------------------- You can only use XDF to create disk images if your computer is installed with OS/2 2.1 or a later version. Only a single imaging session can be used. - For all Systems Copy the XDFCOPY.EXE file from the Install diskette to the \OS2 directory. - For ISA-bus Systems and non IBM Micro Channel bus Systems 1. Rename IBM1FLPY.ADD to IBM1FLPY.OLD or IBM2FLPY.ADD to IBM2FLPY.OLD in the \OS2 directory. 2. Copy XDFLOPPY.FLT and IBM1FLPY.ADD from diskette 1 to the \OS2 directory. 3. Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS: BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT 4. For non-IBM Micro Channel bus change the following line in your CONFIG.SYS: BASEDEV=IBM2FLPY.ADD to BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD /MCA NOTE: IBM1FLPY.ADD now supports ISA, EISA, PCI, and non-IBM Micro Channel bus systems. - For IBM-Micro Channel-bus Systems 1. Rename IBM2FLPY.ADD to IBM2FLPY.OLD in the \OS2 directory. 2. Copy XDFLOPPY.FLT and IBM2FLPY.ADD from diskette 1 to the \OS2 directory. 3. Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS: BASEDEV=XDFLOPPY.FLT NOTE: After installation of WARP, or IBM PC DOS 6.1, 6.3, these drivers (IBM1FLPY.ADD and IBM2FLPY.ADD) will be placed in the OS2\BOOT directory. Setting Up an IBM PC-DOS 6.1, 6.3 Imaging Environment ---------------------------------------------------------------- Copy the XDFCOPY.EXE from the install diskette to your system. Imaging from an OS/2 2.1 or Higher OR DOS 6.1 or Higher ---------------------------------------------------------------- - To make a diskette from image: From the command prompt, type: XDFCOPY IMAGENAME A: B: - To make an image from diskette: From the command prompt, type: XDFCOPY A: IMAGENAME B: NOTE: XDFCOPY is limited to one OS/2 or DOS command prompt session at a time. Starting XDFCOPY under a second OS/2 or DOS session hangs the system. Layout of Disk Images ---------------------------------------------------------------- - Installation Diskette, Diskette 1 These diskette images are not in the XDF format. You can add, delete and copy files to these diskettes. The OS/2 utilities such as COPY, XCOPY, DEL, etc. can be used to modify these diskettes. Use the image transfer program (os2image, image, loaddskf, etc.) that you currently use to create diskette images of these diskettes. - Diskette 2 through Diskette N These diskette images are in the XDF format. You must install the XDFCOPY Utility, XDFLOPPY.FLT, and either IBM1FLPY.ADD or IBM2FLPY.ADD (depending upon your bus type). These diskettes have a software write protection. You cannot erase files or bundle files or add files to these diskettes. You can only read these diskettes or use XDFCOPY to backup these diskettes. ---------------------------------------------------------------- IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
