OSMMWCDR - GENERAL CD-ROM INFORMATION FOR WARP 3.0 12/20/94 ================================================================ GENERAL CD-ROM INFORMATION FOR WARP 3.0 ================================================================ PLEASE READ ENTIRE DOCUMENT FOR FULL EXPLANATION OF PROCEDURES ---------------------------------------------------------------- OS/2 CD-ROM DRIVE COMPATIBILITY LIST ---------------------------------------- 5 MGS of HD space is required when installing Multi-Media. FOR OEM: It is suggested to disable, turbo, cache, shadow ram. (Packard Bell need not disable above features.) ALL SYSTEMS: Video needs to be set to VGA mode, 640 X 480, 8 bit slot or mode if possible, disable autosensing if you have capability. Disconnect modem, tape back-up, network card, scanners, etc. while installing. After installation completes, enable and connect all features and devices. If you are using device drivers for the CD-ROM supplied by vendors other than IBM and the device driver does not exist on Diskette 1, it is possible that the device driver will not copy over to the hard disk after the installation is completed. Make a DISKCOPY of Diskette 1 and edit the CONFIG.SYS to include this statement: COPYFROMFLOPPY=1 By adding this statement to the CONFIG.SYS on Diskette 1, the installation program copies files from Diskette 1 if the diskette is in the drive and if you are installing from a drive other than A. Statements in the CONFIG.SYS for CD-ROM's are: DEVICE=X:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q IFS=X:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q BASEDEV= /P:XXX where X: is the drive where OS/2 resides where XXX: is CD-ROM parameters /Q is quiet mode and error messages do not displayed. /V is view mode and error messages are displayed. If the files are not present, you can manually add them. Files are in a bundled file called CDROMREQ and CDROMFLT. They are located on: Diskette #2 If the device driver is not listed or you need assistance, contact the vendor for an OS/2 driver. CD-ROM device drivers are constantly updated. If you are installing Warp and the CD-ROM driver is not recognized but the driver was included in Warp, download the latest drivers from the IBM PCC BBS at 919-517-0001. The file is CDDRVR.ZIP. Drivers included in the .ZIP file is as follows: LMS205 22055 11-05-94 LMS206 23442 11-05-94 MITFX 16359 11-06-94 SBCD2 15227 11-06-94 SONY53 14630 11-05-94 Philips LMS CM205 and CM225 is on the Installation Diskette. To install using the CD-ROM, the driver must be added to Diskette 1 and the CONFIG.SYS. 1. Make a DISKCOPY of diskette 1. 2. Insert the COPY of Diskette in the the diskette drive. 3. Delete LMS206.ADD, from Diskette 1, type: DEL LMS206.ADD and press Enter. 4. Copy the file LM205.ADD from the Installation Diskette to the copy of Diskette 1. 5. Edit the CONFIG.SYS on the copy of Diskette 1. change the line: BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD to read: REM BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD 6. Add the following line to the CONFIG.SYS: BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD 7. Restart the installation. 8. Insert the modified diskette 1 when prompted for diskette 1. Note: If you're adding a device driver to Diskette 1 and you do NOT have enough space on diskette, you can delete the following files on the COPY of Diskette 1 NON-MICRO CHANNEL SYSTEM: Delete files IBM2.* MICRO CHANNEL SYSTEM: Delete files IBM1.* FOR THE IDE CD-ROM SUPPORT: The IDE hard disk driver, IBM1S506.ADD recognizes ATAPI devices as generic. The IBMIDECD,FLT, a filter loads afterwards and scans for the generic ATAPI devices. When it locates the ATAPI device, it detects if the device is a CD-ROM. OS2CDROM.DMD and CDFS.IFS are required for the CD-ROM to work. NOTE: The IDE CD-ROM cannot be configured as the Master. IBMINT13.I13 cannot be used for the IDE CD-ROM. The following list are compatible IDE CD-ROMs: Mitsumi FX00IDE NEC CDR-250 CDR-260 CDR-2vi Sony 55D 55E Panasonic 571 Wearnes CDD-120 All IDE CD-ROM need to be ATAPI 1.2 compliant or higher. If the drivers are not, contact the vendor for an updated driver. For NEC 260 adhering to 1.7 compliant, the BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD line in the CONFIG.SYS files should be: BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /A:x /U:y /ATAPI The /A switch refers to the adapter number the CD-ROM is attached to. The /U switch refers to the unit or device number on the particular adapter. The /ATAPI parameter enables ATA Packet Interface protocol. If the CD-ROM is attached to the second IDE port or adapter in a system and is the only device on the adapter, edit the CONFIG.SYS to read: BASEDEV=IBM1S506.ADD /A:1 /U:0 /ATAPI AFTER INSTALLATION, IDE CD-ROM IS NOT INSTALLED OS/2 Warp 3.0 is installed and when restarting the system, the IDE CD-ROM is not recognized or support is not installed. 1. Select System Setup 2. Select Selective Install 3. Select CD-ROM support 4. Highlight Other IDE CD-ROM Support, from the list of CD-ROM selection list. NOTE: During the installation, the brand of the CD-ROM was selected. EX: Sony, NEC, etc. 5. Continue the installation until completed. 6. Remove the CD and restart the system. The statements in the CONFIG.SYS are: IBM1S506.ADD /A:? /U:? /ATAPI where ? is the correct parameter needed (see above) BASEDEV=IBMIDECD.FLT DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD IFS=C:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS The drivers for these statements and the CD-ROM are in the OS2\BOOT subdirectory. The following table lists the supported CD-ROM combinations. Refer to the OS/2 Warp Users Guide, pages 327-340 for parameter information for your CD-ROM. Also, see pages 208-209 for CD-ROM problems. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Manufacturer | Model | Interface | Drivers | Available | Notes|
